hi all in a recent post i made http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=99108 i asked how to gain extra renown and was advised to alter the cfg file using note pad which i did. For some reason it just isnt working ive tried every method people have told me but as i say it just wont work, now if anyone has the time would they kindly give me an example of exactly which bits to alter because basically im useless and cant do it. Another thing i have SH3 commander mod installed would this be affecting my attempts to alter the files?

thanks for the replys in advance from a completley confused U-212:damn:

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Check and see if the files are write-protected. Also, try using Wordpad instead of notepad - that's what I always use anyway.

SH3 folder in my documents / Cfg / Careers / (your Captains name) / Patrols0 / Delta Renown towards bottom of list. See where it says "OOOHH, I'm rich"(I just put that there for this example). Or use this handy trainer for 1 million renown

Some notes re manually changing renown:

-If you haven't yet started a career, the easiest way to get copious amounts of renown is to open Basic.cfg and change the AcademyBonus value under [PLAYER_RENOWN] to be a million or whatever you like. When you start your career, and assuming that you have completed the academy at some stage, your starting renown will then be 1,000,500 (500 being the default renown given to the player, but this too can be changed by editing the PlayerStartRenownxx values in Flotilla.cfg).

-If you have started a career, then the block you change in your Patrols_0.cfg file is very important. Usually, you'd adjust the last block, however, if you've deleted saves in the meantime, this will NOT work. The simplest way to remember what block to change is to adjust the block that equates to your *next* patrol number MINUS one. So, if you are in port *before* patrol 6, adjust the DeltaRenown value under [PATROL 005].
