GW installl error

I am trying to install the gw mod on a clean install and I keep getting an error message any help would be appreciated

Patch SH3 to the 1.4b before installing GW.

I tried but how do you know if it was sucessful. I downloaded 1.4 on a clean install the game was never on this computer.

After installing the 1.4b patch (keep in mind the "Congrats you've just installed!" message after the patch will say "1.3", ignore that. Load the game and look at the little scrolly line at the bottom of the main menu. It should say "1.4" there, if it does, you're set.

If you have the disk space for it, I like to COPY my freshly patched 1.4b install to a folder called backup so that if I do have issues with installing something, I don't need to fully install again, I can just copy the backup I made.

Download ALL the files for GW 1.1a (TGW11a.exe and TGW11a-1.bin through TGW11a-4.bin) and run the TGW11a.exe. That should go ahead and install GW for you.

If you get an error, can you please type the exact error here so we can help troubleshoot it? Good luck and enjoy GW! :)

ok it doesn't look like the install is there. It says it was intalled sucessfully but when I run the game it isn't there where you said it should be.

ok I can't even get the patch to work any help US DVD version. I am sure I am well above the system specs any ideas. No this is a store bought version not a crack or anything.

Ok, so you have the US DVD version of the game? The barcode on the back of your DVD box should read "0 08888 68195 3"? Correct? Ensure that it is, and redownload this file:

That's the 1.4b patch for the US edition DVD install.

While that's downloading, lets make sure we're starting from scratch.

First, delete any installed version you have so far in the following directory:

C:\program files\ubisoft\silenthunterIII

Delete any other places you've installed Silent Hunter III as well, perhaps the copy I'd mentioned before.

Next, delete the SH3 folder in your My Documents folder and everything below it:

C:\Documents And Settings\YOURUSERNAME\My Documents\SH3

You should be "clean" now. Next install the game normally, with all defaults, from the DVD. DO NOT PATCH YET.

Start the game up and make sure it works, maybe even start a single mission. Make sure it all looks/sounds/acts like you expect.

If it does, by now the patch should be downloaded, so run that patch file. Again, accept all defaults. After it's finished run the game again and test it again as before. If everything is working you should be good to go. :)

If any of that didn't work, post the exact error messages here please.

Now it's time to install GW. First lets make sure you have a valid install and all the files you need. Find the GW install files and right click on each and check Properties. Check the "Size: 170 MB (178,751,648 bytes)" line and ensure they have the same file sizes as listed here:

TGW11a-1.bin: Icon says 174,563KB - Properties Size: 170 MB (178,751,648 bytes)
TGW11a-2.bin: Icon says 175,098KB - Properties Size: 170 MB (179,300,000 bytes)
TGW11a-3.bin: Icon says 175,098KB - Properties Size: 170 MB (179,300,000 bytes)
TGW11a-4.bin: Icon says 174,956KB - Properties Size: 170 MB (179,154,367 bytes)
TGW11a.exe: Icon says 535KB - Properties Size: 535 KB (547,845 bytes)

If all those files sizes look right, go ahead and run TGW11a.exe by double clicking on it and accept all defaults.

After it's installed, test the game as before. Hopefully it'll work. Again, if it doesn't post any exact error messages here please.

ok I have done everything stated above and the patch will not take effect? any ideas on that. I have check all the directories are correct and the patch says it was sucessful but when I start the game it doesn't say 1.4 any ideas

Only one idea, and it's a fact: the devs forgot to update the label. If it says "1.3" you have the correct 1.4b patch. You're fine.

well I know that, but no patch is in the system. I have no idea whats wrong here it is crazy and ubi is no help at all.

Try this: go out on a single mission and dive. If the Chief calls out the depth every 10 meters on the way down, it's installed and working.

If not, all I can say is clean it out and re-install.

well I am now just trying to get the patch to work then I will worry about the mod. I have no idea whats wrong with the patch it says it is installed sucessfully then when I run the game it isn't there. Everything goes through like it should but nothing this is really frustrating.

do as sailor steve said go do a tutorial and listen for the chief to give out depth readings...every 10 metres or so...if he does its done...
