Now that I have had a chance to play both the big super mods (GW & NYGM) I have to say that with out a doubt, you guys on both teams have proven yourselves to be talented, forward thinking, tenacious individuals. To take this game and make what you have goes beyond words! Ironincally enough, I think that the competiveness/animosity between to 2 teams has driven them both to a level of excellence that couldnt have been achieved on their own. (My opinion :smug: )

So CHEERS to both the GW and NYGM teams for all that they have accomplished and all they will bring to us in the future.

From my own personnal experience, I played SH3 from day 1. Good game but got shelved as they do eventually. GW got me to re-install this game and NYGM actually has me excited to come home and be able to play a mission now.

If circumstance ever brings us together you got a big sloppy kiss commin and the 1st round of beers is on me:huh:
PROST!

Personally I see no positives from the situation that NYGM & GW found themselves in, but it is the way that it is.

I do agree that GW has brought a lot to the game and is a great Mod and definitely worthy of the praise it gets.

I am very happy to hear that NYGM have added a level of excitement previously missing in SHIII. I can certainly relate to how you feel as the randomness is such that even I, when playing my Wolves of War (see signature) career do not 'know' and for example yesterday I spent 90 minutes real time penetrating the convoys escorts for a night time surface attack. Constantly checking the escort for any indication that they had detected me, very tense, very exciting. Bagged myself a large tanker and a small merchant and escaped rearward of the convoy

From all the NYGM Team & Beta Testers I would like to thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and especially the offer of a beer

I agree, the competition between the two teams is pushing both the mods to really invent something new and cool.

Just think about it, if there would be only one supermod, it would only show one new idea per section (e.g. ship behaviour, enemy AI etc.). But with two separate teams, the community gets more than one view of the subject. ;)

Ya, well thats kinda my point. If there was only one big bad supermod on the block then eventually we would only see mediocrity because "hey this is all there is, take it or leave it." But with the two big boys sparring it out, it tends to keep things lively and energized.

The down side is we have one of the finest online communities anywhere and it sometimes gets, shall we say, heatedly divided between the 2 mods. It just doesnt have to be that way boys and girls. These are two fine mods and alot of work and care have gone into each. Its quite obvious if youve played them.

Different ideas... same goal. Make this a better game. Keep that in mind next time one of those flame wars start. ;)

Ive made a patrol report on these boards from one particularly bad adventure and all credit for the trials and tribulations that I experienced went to GW and NVDrifter for their excelent mods. Stay tuned for the next report comming to you curtasy of NYGM:rock:

Honestly i lament the loss of the old mod forum. In the old mod forum, ideas were freely shared. Things new and innovative, we'd all jump in and try to hash it out together. If 2 heads are better then one working on a problem, then 20 heads have to be better then 10 working on the same problem. Yeah, the old mod forum was pretty cool. It was a real community.

Then at somepoint in time, someone opened their yap in the wrong way, and everything snowballed from there. Now, instead of threads like "improving the AI" or "improving ship damage" or, "anyone try this?", every other thread is either NYGM or GW, each mod representing an oppsing faction in the mod community, and alot of things are tantamount to trade secrets. It's utterly ridiculous. Unfortunatly foolish (or stupid) pride being what it is in some people, it will never change. I'd name names, but it wouldn't do any good. Point is, i lament the loss of the old mod forum.

There are more than 2 supermods, why people insist there are only 2 is beyond me. Like my favorite UBWA, or RUB, & IUB.

Didnt mean to leave anyone out. Just that GW & NYGM are the recognized big boys on the block. I have also used IUB and RUB and they are great mods as well. All the modders of this great community are well deserving of a giant pat on the back for all the work they have done and continue to do.

Deimos01... On behalf of the GW team, thank you for the kind words. Our guys pour their heart and soul into what we do... For some of us it really has become a second job... only without pay. We work our guts out, trying not to think of all the rocks in the road... and how far we think we have to go... Sometimes that distance is deceptive and those who can't stick it out fall by the wayside. (with no shame)

I'm sure it is the same on both sides of the table.

We do have divergent approaches to the same goal as you say... and that is just how it is now... but Ducimus is right... it pushes things to an entirely new level... but at the cost of the forum brainstorms that I miss too. Now, the downside to some of those braistorms is that they often lead down the wrong track... or lead to nowhere after weeks of discussion. (very depressing sometimes)

HOWEVER, ya can't forget that debates were often just as heated then as they have been here somewhat lately. We also had a flaw to deal with... a "major modder" who was a moderator. Big conflict of interests there... which precipitated quiet conversations more than a year ago...

"Let's do it on our own... I'm sick of the politics and all the crap."
"I don't know man. Be careful what you wish for... You might get it!"
"Well, either someone does it... or we settle for the status quo."
"Yeah... I see what you mean."
"Doenitz called his men 'The Grey Wolves' Let's name our work after them."
"Very cool... Let's do it!"

Neither "Big Mod" could exist without this community though.

Within the SH3 engine we are somewhat limited with some of the things that can and cannot be modded... we are ALL getting much better at finding silver bullets... and finding "absolute boundaries." These things have been and continue to be hashed out by this community!

The real winner here is the player in the end. If you have a favorite mod... GREAT! If you can't decide... YOU HAVE VARIETY AND CHOICES... GREAT ALSO!

You will always have that choice.

Capt USA is right though... there are more than two great mods... Here and now I will say that the U-boat War Ace mod appears to be really good. Heck, I wish the interface was ours just for starters! Furthermore, HanSolo78 was nice enough to create a GW compatible version of his mod. In my book HanSolo78 is a top man!:arrgh!:

So there isn't going to be a merged mod... GET OVER IT!!! Go sink something! What are ya hangin' 'round here for!

Tired of sailing? BUILD SOMETHING!!! Can't build anything? Well PAINT SOMETHING!!! Can't paint stuff? WELL YOU CAN CODE STUFF!!!

BE MORE AGGRESSIVE!!! Get a hammer and nails and ATTACK the parts of this game that haven't been fixed yet.

There is a wealth of information here at Subsim, from all who have come before you and had to find things out the hard way.

What have you got in your U-boat?:sunny:

Now... back to the workshop with me... :-?

[edit] ... Now about this "Who's better looking thing.......... "

Not to mention overwhelmingly humble :p

I look at all the supermods, and I see things I don't like, things I do, and people dedicated to making the experience better any way they can.

You all get my hats-off too.  :sunny:

This is the way i like to see a discussion go.   I use this forum like a morning newspaper. It's the first thing i look at with a morning beer  i mean coffee. I get the latest mods, mods in progress, and even advice on computer upgrades or problems. And it's all FREE!!!!!!. I hope the ones that are at each others throats will look here and see how something was discussed calmly with content without dissing. This was refreshing. There is so much talent here willing to share, it it's sad to see fighting. Remember we all love the same MISTRESS SH-3. I'll close now with Good Hunting:up:
