View Full Version : Is this a bug?...
Hello,
I just started my 3rd patrol in April 42 with my VIIC boot from the base in Brest and set the speed to 9 knts. While the weather was good (5 m/s wind speed) it just maintained that speed very nicely. Because i had a long to ahead of me i checked the range of the boat just outside of the Port. Normaly this is something like 17.000 Km. Now it's 24.000!!! I checked my speed again, and set it yo 10 knts just to run some tests. Now it was still way off (20.000).
Btw: I'm running SHIII with GW v1.1a and SHIII Commander 2.6

Does'nt anybody experienced this before?
Yesterday i tried another patrol, now leaving from a resupply milkcow and the range of my VIIC boat is 24000 KM!! (At 9 kts) This can't be right. This problem began at the start of the third patrol.
Maybe this will help. In the middle of the second patrol a saved my game so i could go further with it on another day. When i resaved the game i noticed that my speed was to low (2 kts). I asumed this was the sabotage feature. Went back to Brest and went on with my next patrol.
Is it possibly that the sabotage feature wrecked my range files or something like that?

Sorry I don't have GW yet, so I can't really help you with that!
I played stock, no updates and when I used limited fuel the range sometimes jumped a bit. Not really by as much as you posted (max of 1k km), but "bug" may still me scripted in the game (mods didn't find it, what the hell do I know ).
Try going to 1024X time compression, go back to 1X and then check it and don't change the speed.
Otherwise, I'd be a happy Kaleun if I got extra miles from the same ammount of fuel
I've tested a couple of things. But it just seems that my VIIC now has the range of a IX boat. Later today i'm going to test the range of a VIIC boat in a single mission, maybe that's a difference.
Thanks for the input though.

I've found out that it is part of a feature of SH3 commander.
As stated over here.
"GENERAL INCLUSIONS
1939 flotilla names are included (1st Flotilla is named 'Weddigen', 2nd is 'Saltzwedel' and 7th is 'Wegener').
Fuel resupply strategy simulated from April 1942 until December 1943 by extending range of Type VIIC during this time period.

I wonder why this is still implanted in Sh3 commander while there is a milkcow option avaible now.

Excellent find Tijn  ... yet another example of undocumented features in the game :88) , I sure hope Ubi gets it's act together before they release SHIV

Actually, that's a documented (if not obscure) feature of a player made utility (SH3 Commander). Not something Ubi coded or included. :)

Guess I was wrong. But I came pretty close, didn't I?

"I wonder why this is still implanted in Sh3 commander while there is a milkcow option avaible now."
I believe Jscones implemented this feature for sh3 commander when there were no milk cows in the game. He's talked about removing it (might have already in 2.6-not sure). there is a fix for it--a few lines of code to change in the sh3 commander data file. check the commander sticky thread in the mods forum.
As for the small jump in range in the stock version--the fuel range will change depending on the speed of your boat (speed can be reduced for short periods of time at high tc due to going through high winds, storms, etc.)
Ok i'll search for this in the sh3 commander thread while we can use milkcows now, i don't think i need the extra range. As soon as i found it, i will post it here.
Offcourse the range will jump a bit when changing speed, but this wasn't really the issue. Keeping the speed @ 9 kts will give you a range of +/_ 16/17K km wich is enough for hunting the North atlantic.
One other question. Did the VIIC boats actually went to the US coast, or where only the IX boats allowed to do this?

Ok i've this in another thread.

Yes (albeit only VIIC range).
