but.....

My computer is too slow to run it. The 64 MB vid card can't pull it and it won't throw the extra work to the 3 ghz processor.

The other day I found a tramp steamer. Nice, small, easy target.....
I filled it full of lead from the deck gun (which then gave out) then proceeded to hit it with 4 torpedos AND IT STILL DIDN'T SINK! In fact, it just ran quietly back and forth prancing and parading in front of me in some sort of invincibility mode as I watched my shots hit square, fire everywhere, but it still pranced about.

Also, I think I may roll back the view. For some reason the boats as I leave Wilhelmshaven all look like toys floating in a tub. Big ships that are tiny compared to the waves on a calm day.

Also I can't get the engine sounds to play within the sub. glitch or my sound card?

Anyway, I like the gages and the general traffic (if it didn't slow down my time compression )

Is there something I'm not doing that I should be? Seems like everyone is pretty happy w/ the mod for good reason.

1. The damage model can be a b!tch at times. Where did you shoot with your deckgun? You must shoot below the waterline to actually have some effect. We borrowed it from the NYGM team when GW was made. It simulates, so that the ships sink by flooding, not by losing all the itīs HP (health points). GWX will have itīs own damage model and itīs great for what Iīve seen and experienced.

2. GW made no changes to how ships behave in water, so the 'toys in the tub' is a stock issue.

3. My engine sound works fine. ;)

4. Low framerates can kill the playing experience (trust me, on my last PC I had constant framerate of 5-12). What kind of graphics card is that you have? 64mb is too little to run the game in a good FPS. How much RAM you have?

I have a nVidia GeForce FX w/ 64 MB. Ram of 1.2 MB. The computer is full throttle except for the vid card.

I wasn't really referring to the behavior of the ships. Just that they seem.....tiny. Its not that they are far away, etc. After 6 years of being at sea myself I sorta have an idea of what "near......far" looks like and these things just look out of proportion until I get right up close to them. Like I said I think its that I'm looking at 16km and the representation might be throwing me off.

I'll shoot at the water line next time....but it made such a pretty bonfire. Still, a 1960 tonne ship (small in comparison to something like a C2) should take 4 torps without even slowing down is a bit ridiculous.

My engine sounds fine too...outside. I rarely if ever have issues sound wise so I wonder if something didn't get installed right.

What's really annoying is when you're at time-compression and discover a serious leak, and then fail to allocate repair crews to it in time to save your boat due to lag.

Being stuck at 128 time compression with a critical flooding in your boat is not fun, and is one of those times when I really miss automatic repair times (when idle, they just pick the most serious damage and get to repairing it).

Nah, haven't heard of him.

I think I might do a total re-install.

The engine sounds in the boat have been turned down in GW so its not any problem but a feature of GW. Hopefully you didnt add the seafloor textures as part of your install. That will really kill yer frame rates.

Other than that, it may be time for a new vid card. I just picked up a radeon x1600 pro AGP card for under 200 US and I love it!

Well, considering I'm playing on a laptop designed for a "desktop" (REALLY heavy and not suited for carting around unlike my Toshiba M200 which I never fail to boost to anyone). :D

So I'm stuck until I get a better computer.

I installed the sea floor thing the first go around (not knowing what it was per say). Yeah, 1 FPS was awful.

after re-installing it, I still had some Frame issues from all the added stuff so I'll just put it aside for now. Great mod though. I didn't like the green numbers but that's just me, not very greenish person. Also, at the start of a mission, is that stupid ship there all the time? Seems like everytime I tried to get out, I either had to floor it or follow him out. Next time........early kill. He has been warned.

Now if only I could find and sink that stupid tramp steamer......:hmm:

That ship is there to guide you through the mine fields and sub nets.;)

Some things to help with frame rates if you are using GW.

Dont install the sea floor texxtures
Use the 8k visibility mod and not the 16k one.

Both of these will impact frame rates.

Also, there are mine fields and sub-nets in the harbors with GW. The ship that is in your way is actually there to escort you through those things. However, there is a map of all the friendly harbors that shows the position of the mines and nets. Its in the upper left corner of the map screen and is a click and drag feature. Once you know where the obsticles are you can safely plot your own course.

As and alternative, you can choose the no friendly mines option when installing GW and not worry about it at all.
