Anvart, you should post this on the German Ubisoft forums as well, when you get the time.:yep: I bet there are a lot of SHIII players over there who would be interested in downloading it.

Moin,

@Anvart
don´t know whether you´re going to reply to posts over in the German ubi forum or if you just posted to make us aware of you work. So I´m replying to this one in addition. Nice work, and nice to see my little one in the back. :D Could you give a short description on how to light up a ship? I´d like to do it myself and switch on my fishing boat´s position lights.

Regards,
DD

Anvart, what an awesome idea, it sounds like you have done other lit ships as well, can you tell us where to download them?

Thanks, looks great!!!

:o You didn't know about Anvart's lit ships!?

So far, he has done the Coastal Merchant, C2, Small Coastal Vessel, Tugboat, T3, Passenger Liner, Hospital Ship, and now the Transport. He should be able to get you the links for all of those.:yep:

What mods are you running Notewire ?

How pleasant of you to ask, Herr Kapitan.

For WAW - I run:
NYGM
Moonlight Mod (the square moon one)
Dirty Crew Mod
3rd Flotilla Mod
Graf Zeppelin Add-in
I removed my own icon from the F5 maps, so I have to use sextant in maps.cfg
I made all contacts "-" ala RUB
And then I changed my Englishnames.cfg to match my style of play (low TC, no Hud, F3, F5, or F6 commands, etc.
I use SH3 Weather and SH3 Gen to make orders once I leave port.
I added the FishingBoat3 Cutters.

When not WAW, I run GW 1.1a with -
Uboat War 1.7 for GW
Longer Damage Times Mod
Moonlight Mod
Dirty Crew Mod
Graf Zeppelin Mod
I removed my own icon from the F5 maps, so I have to use sextant in maps.cfg
I made all contacts "-" ala RUB
And then I changed my Englishnames.cfg to match my style of play (low TC, no Hud, F3, F5, or F6 commands, etc.
I use SH3 Weather and SH3 Gen to make orders once I leave port.
I added the FishingBoat3 Cutters.

So, that's what I use, and I am always looking for new ideas. Does this mod make all ships lighted? Or is it random, some lighted, some not?

Thanks for all the help MODDERS!!!

Highest Regards,
Yarre.

@ Notewire
Wow a few then lol
The link with the Scr and Rnd in is for GW1.1A
It will give you lit ships for all the neutral countries plus US before they joined the war - same with Netherlands\Norway\Greece\Denmark and Belgium IIRC

The first link is just the ships all together - except the latest

@BigBoy-
Just wanted to clarify, your download is the lit ships AND a script layer that includes the lit neutrals, shifting them to darkened ships at the correct times? Do they appear in convoy?

Thanks for doing that (assuming I read you correctly ;)), that's a lot of work and a BIG help to the rest of us.

No they dont appear in convoys
There are 5 people who have had it for a couple of months now with nothing reported back
You are correct that they shift to dark ships at correct times

Moin,
I think that the best way to learn to do lit ships is the analysis of a dat-file
NLPL_.dat (lit Liner) versions 1.2. There I are realized all "lit" technologies.
For the analysis use Pack3D and HexEditor or similar programs.
Except for that it is necessary to analyse and other files SH3 for example Harbor_kit.dat.
:D
Thanks Anvart, so I will go back to my cave for a while and start studying the *.dat. Hopefully I´ll be back by the end of 2006. ;)

DD

I've just started out on my first patrol using BBW's collection of Anvart's lighted ships scripted into in the campaign files, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how these look - unfortunately, I'm in November 1943 now so I'm not sure if there are likely to be many neutrals left out there for me to see at this point.

One question though - why a lighted transport? What are these things transporting? If they are troop transports, would there ever be a situation IRL where troop transports would be lighted? It looks very cool, but I'm a bit puzzled about the reality of lighting up this particular type of ship. Were they used to transport something other than troops?

There are still the neutral countries out the lit up - Spain\Sweden and Portugal etc

Sorry for the noob question but...

I'm running NYGM201, can i still use these lit ships, or is it GW only?

Thanks in advance. :)

You can use the lit ships in the first link - post 17 on this thread
The second link has the GW campaign files so may screw something up in your NYGM install
IIRC they will all be in the next release of NYGM  if you want to wait

One question though - why a lighted transport?

Well, if it were sailing under a neutral nation, it wouldn't be a transport anyway but a passenger liner (in this case, an older one). The definitions of passenger liner and troop transport are rather interchangeable in SHIII - as the war progressed, there wouldn't be any passenger vessels which weren't being used as transports anyway. The name "Lighted Transport" was retained for this vessel because of the name Sergbuto originally chose for the clone of the AXC.

One exception would actually be the Troop Transport - there would be no need to light up that one. The landing crafts clearly mark the ship as non-civilian, and its appearance is more of a purpose-built transport. The lighted one here is a civilian design, however.

Hope this answers your question. You can rename the vessel to Old Passenger Vessel, or something like that if you like.

Good point - I really couldn't tell from looking at it what kind of ship it was supposed to be - didn't look much like a passenger liner, at least of the classic Cunard Line styles anyway. For some reason I just equated "transport" with "troop transport" in my head based on the name. I guess that some of those neutral countries would still have had some passenger ships that wouldn't have been pressed into carrying troops (and people that wanted to travel despite the war and the risks), and they would certainly want to have them lighted up if it would help lower the risk of being torpedoed, so it sounds like another great addition indeed

You just need to add the ship's main folder to your sea directory in the data folder, and copy the roster .cfg into the nation folders of your choice. However, for best results, lighted ships should be scripted into the campaign manually. BBW can show you his new campaign file, as an example.

It is too late at night where I live - I can't explain in more detail tonight, but maybe tomorrow I will if you still need some help.
