After numerous travails, I believe I have fixed my problems w/the game and I'm going to reinstall GW. What options beyond default should I enable, you think?
I remember three options having to do w/graphics, w/8 KM, 16 KM, and 8 KM (at night) to check, for example. I think I'll also do the Das Boot background movie.

The optional ones I use are Das Boot Background Movie, Atmosphere 16km for light monitors, Generic ship contact names, 24 hour fatigue model and No torpedo TDC tracking.

The sea floor textures can have a huge impact on frame rates on anything but really beefy systems. reccomend not using that one. As for the rest, the others really wont impact framerates much. The 16K visibility mod may impact a small bit but should only be noticable if you have a low end system. The light/dark aspects with the visibility mods are generally for ppl with unusually dark monitors and cant see at all at night. If your one of those then use the light sky versions.

sea floor textures can have an impact but thats not the main opt. definitely the das boot movie. a 16 or 8 km distance. im not quick at TDC so i dont check that one (let my officers worry about it - iM too important) but i dont like the generic contact names - i like to see ships' names instead of them all being called "contact"...

EEEK!!!
forgot to give tech specs:
2.2 Ghz dual core processor(s)
2 Gig RAM
Radeon 9250 VC (256M)
this post took a longer time to write than you'd expect, as my XO (Thor the Chihuahua-Jack Russell mix) has immobilized an arm

with the light business, is there anyway to change this after GW mod is installed because since i put the mod on, I cant see anything at night, i have to get right up to the screen to see a thing. ive even changed the gamma settings!

Just reinstall GW and pick a different option that time. :)

Well, when I had this installed, earlier, I had no problem seeing at night w/the default settings.

I tried the 16k light and it slowed my computer way down (unplayable) while on the bridge. But then, I'm using a laptop and the stock GW does great.

I have some questions: What does the "No Torpedo TDC Tracking" and the "24 hour fatigue model" really do?

No Torpedo tracking means you won't see the actual torpedo on the F6 screen as it moves towards it's target.
24 Hour Fatigue system means your men can stay on station for 24 hours before they become totally fatigued. There have been some issues with this though, especially with torpedo reloading on IIAs, but it's nice not having to shift people around constantly.

Great! The uncertany i always wantet. The auto track was not possible back then.
The seafloor looks nice but my PC is low end...so better not!
The 16KM thing is realistic but again...Low end PC, better not!
But as soon as i get a faster PC i install these! But till that i'm sure GWX is already out...:p
