Question for Grey Wolves development team:

I completed 26 patrols with Grey Wolves and SH3 Commander without any problems.

After the 26th patrol I transferred to the Med (29 flotilla) and I began to have problems with the game crashing. One crash during the 27th patrol, but I was able to complete the patrol without any other crashes.

Then began the 28th patrol and experienced multiple crashes (errors which turned SH3 off). So many crashes in fact that I went back to the end of patrol 26 (did away with transfer) and started a new 27th patrol in the Atlantic. So far (in the Atlantic) I've had no problems with game crashing.

Is there any explanation for this?

27-28 Patrols? Hmmm.... :hmm:

Honestly, I don't think it is GW that is the problem. The 29th Flot was Marhkimov's favorite and rather extensive and targetted testing was done using the 29th.

I suggest some basic PC maintenance...

Run your spyware detector...

Defrag your HD.

Run a full system scan with your virus detector.

Also, make sure that when you are playing that there are no extra programs running in the background like internet/email/virus scanners etc. Shut them all down when you play.

Also, if you have further modded GW you may have broken it. Jillions of possibilities exist if you have.

I routinely run three different spyware/adware programs. I just rencently ran my virus program and defrag. I also run FSautostart before booting SH3 Commander and the game.

I have no full blown mods installed except for a minor tweak to the sensor.cfg for A1 sensitivity and recently discussed changes to the three campaign files for the weather.

But, most importantly, if this was computer or mod related, the problem would have existed when I reverted to the 26th patrol and continued with next patrol in the Atlantic from the 2nd flotilla. It did not.

When tranferring to the 29th flotilla in the Med, I went from a type IX to a type VII. Could this have caused a problem in the software?

Has anyone else had problems after transferring from one flotilla to another?

Looking forward to GVX.

The sensors tweak should be harmless. Try to revert to the old weather settings and see what you get.

I really don't think it was the changes I made to the camapign cfg files because I'm back in the Atlantic with 2nd Flotilla and have played quite a few hours on my next patrol. I had no problems with many patrols before transfering and no problems at all since picking back up my Atlantic patrols.

I'll probably start a new career from scratch with 29th Flotilla in the Med and see what happens. I'm guessing it has something to do with the flotilla change and maybe going from a type IX to a type VII.

Does anyone know what month and year the 29th flotilla became available? This will save me the time of looking it up.

Mods can fark up your game from time to time. Delete the mod and play the stock and see the difference - no crashes. Add a mod equals crash and add some more mods and slowly watch your game crash from time to time. Its doesn't matter what game you play installing a mod can give problems. But theirs factors to be looked at first before you install the mod. Always read the read me file they add in as theirs expanations to why things might turn to all sh*t. And if your pc is under the requirements to play the mod then expect problems otherwise upgrade. Turn everything off on the task bar like mentioned before and defrag and take a note what mods you have installed. Did it crash after i installed the sound mod? well then delete that mod it might work well for others but its just ruined your day.
Dont get me wrong GW is probably the best mod to come out for SH3 although i haven't tried NYGM yet, but GW is super - ive even sent an email to PCPOWERPLAY's cd editor to review GW as one of their game reviewers is a sub gamer who gave SH3 a 9/10 and im sure he will love it! :arrgh!:.
I have two installs of SH3 - one standard with not one mod added and the other with GW - before GW its was running other mods like RUB and guess which game gives me the odd crash. Still the crashes aren't serious enough to delete it. I just live with it.

General tip for ctd's, if when the game crashes, it shows up the debug dialog, instead of closing it, check the details, and take note in which module the problem is, for example:
if the fault is in SH3collisions.act, it's a good bet that there's a problem with a .zon file, if it's SH3Sim.act problems on a .sim file or .dat file, and so on.

The more info you gave us, the greater the chances to find a solution, it's really hard to find a problem without narrowing the options.
