Whats up with Bernard Jokes?

Hey all, I've been playing SH3 with 1.4 p for about 8 months now, And I pop up on this website from time to time to see whats going on, when SH4 will come out, and to read all the great reads that people post. But one Thing I don't get is why everyone makes fun of Bernard? Are you guys talking about a helmasman that costs 4oo renown?

Or is it some kind of insdie joke that I havnt heard yet? I was just really curious because I see maany topics where he is mentioned.

Oh yeah, and the best part of SH4 for me will be ACTUALLY WINNING the war. That way you don't feel like all your effort was for nothing:up:

Bernard is a generic name for that guy on the sub no one likes and keeps screwing up. :)

Bernard is, in a basic view, the one you rather use than the Torpedo to sink a steamer!

I might add, that Bernard is a very very typical English name - which is why I think it became the brunt of a lot of German sub humor.

Sort of the same thing, I believe, with Jerry-Rigging and Jerry jokes on that little island in the Atlantic.

If you find a German named Bernard, there is an unfortunate fellow indeed, you probably won't see one on a sub. You probably won't find too many londoners named Fritz either, or none that will admit it. :lol:

I prefer the Feuer Frei Bernard. Tho, I keep him locked in torpedo tube 2 and let him out when there are enemies in sight. On our first patrol I didnt lock him up and before we got out of the harbor area, two tankers and 3 other merchants were burning. :nope:

Since I've got a faster cpu, I might give the GW a try sooner or later.
The Tonnage War has proven to be a bit too difficult for me to handle. Althougt I've enjoyd the challenge so far.

Like Stabiz said, Bernard is just a name I used in the first picture to the 'Humorous SHIII pictures' thread. I never knew it would start living it´s own life! On a side note, Bernard is having his 1 year birthday in a few weeks. :up:
