The last name is missing the final 'e', however the resemblance is there, though he would've been a bit old for service.

Yep it is a coincidence.The names are random,so things like this can happen.

If you're using SH3 Commander the names are selected from a file of almost all the actual U-boat sailors, which was then divided into first and last names. 42,000 first names, 42,000 last names, over a billion possible combinations.
