Hi,
I am playing the GW mod and yesterday tried to dock with Bassel ship. After a quite succesfull patroll I gained promotions and medals but didn't give them to anybody - I wanted to do it after I get back to Kiel. However, after I got there with even more "kills", it turned out that the awards are gone! All of them!!! :damn:
I loaded the previous game (the moment I was docked with Bassel) and distributed the medals and awards to the crew. When I set to sea again, I found myself back in Kiel (although the "briefing" was saying clearly I'm to set out from Bassel and dock at Kiel, with no grid to patrol...)
Is there a way both not to get "teleported" do the homebase everytime I dock with Bassel and not to loose all the awards from a patrol???
Will the same thing happen when I dock wit a milkcow???

I have docked at the supply ships\milchcows loads of times and always started at the supply ship\milchcow
The only think I can think of is that when it was time for you to restart your patrol the Bessel was no longer there

How many days were you in port at the Bessel ?
With SH3commander 2.6 it recognises the you are at a milkcow\supply ship and sets days to 1 otherwise you will be there for 28 days unless you changed your basic.cfg before sailing

Shoot :/ I'm in the middle of a campaign and starting to use Uboot Commander may "damage" my saves...
Anyway, I am sure that the Bessel is still available when I leave her (I spent there only one day...). In my opinion it is the "distribution of medals and awards" that causes this bug...
Anything else???

Maybe
Not used that function as I normally try to visit the resupply\milchcow on the way to patrol area just to refuel
Besides you can dish out medals\awards with SH3commander as well so if I do get some I wait till I use that and give them out
They wouldnt have been given medal in RL at a resupply anyway

I know that. That was the reason I waited to give them after I get back.. Unfortunately, they were gone (the game "thinks" that after undocking from the Bessel it is a different patrol mission)... They (the awards etc.) were sort of "stuck" in between the patrols and there was no way to get to them...

With SH3 commander you can give all your crews every medal and qualification on the second patrol if you want
Yes the game thinks its another patrol - nothing can be done about that as it was another part of the game left by the devs

Thats why I said I refuel BEFORE going onto my patrol grid as my crew haven't earned anything yet
Anything they earn after that docking is given out as usual in home port
If my crew do earn medals before I use resupply then they miss out
Not the end of the world
Rather be without a few medals than stuck in the Atlantik with no fuel :o

I agree... Hmmm, thanks for help! Since You are willing to answer my questions, take a look at these...

I have recently finished reading books by Clay Blair - "Hittler's U-Boat War" (over 2 000 pages!) and found out that more or less two aspects of that conflict have not been implemented in SH3 TGW:

1) destroyers or other escorts should pick one ship and order her to pick up the "invisible" survivers from any damaged or sunk convoy ship
2) an ability to sink by detonating explosive charges should be added to "get rid" (as the history showed) of the solo merchants not equipped with any weapons without loosing a single torpedo or shell

Well neither of those are implented in any mod or even the stock game
I agree it would be nice to see a DD help out a stricken ship instead of just sailing off and leaving it but with the limitations of the game engine I dont think this is possible
Yes history shows at the start of the war it was possible to sink a ship with charges ( early war at least ) - it was also possible in RL to bring in a ship as a "prize"

http://www.uboatarchive.net/BDUKTB30248.htm

Successes: U 41 brought in 2 Finnish ships from the North Sea as prize. No sinkings.

U 34 sank: S.S. "Pukkastan" 5,809 tons S.S. "Kennebec" 5,548 tons 11,357 tons and also brought in the Estonian S.S. "Hanonia", 2543 tons, as prize.

Along with minelaying\rescue missions and dropping agents on foreign coasts

There's unfortunately a lot thats not possible in the game that we would all like to see

But I have to say GW is a great improvement on the stock game and will be even better in the new GWX

I have a last final question to You, as You seem to be both well informed and very helpful but also quite bussy (I suppose :)...
It is quite easy to find news about GWX. However, where can I find news about the release date? Is GWX comming out this week, month or by the end of this year???

Thank You for help. It's been a nice chat... :)

Pls read http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=97303 :yep: It provides the latest GWX status update. Release dates/installation and other fine details will be provided in a subsequent update, closer to the completion of development and testing.

BTW, your problem is caused by reverting to your previous save (especially if an "in base AFTER mission" save). It's simply caused by a clash of data stored in your save files. A common side effect of "going back in time".
