The Big Wooden Clock...GW users know what it is.
I'm sure it has its uses now and again, and I have to admit it's quite possibly the best big wooden clock texture that's ever been created...But it is a little surplus to requirements as the one in the Periscope view suits me fine and I've gotten fed up of having to drag the &@^$ thing off screen at the start of every patrol. :o

Anyone know the simple edit to make it go away? i.e. what lines do I delete in the menu_1024_768.ini file, so that I can get rid of it permanently ?

Big wooden thanks in advance.

It should be nested at the top of the screen unobtrusively at the start of the patrol, with just the bottom of it showing. hardly notice it.

Plus how are you ever going to do correct manual targeting without a stopwatch overlaying your nav map?:rotfl: Or do you not use that particular method?:hmm: The waych is very useful for those making down to the second observations. Flipping back and forth to see when 3:15 is up can be a bit annoying. In my opinion more so than moving that damned thing. But you didn't ask for my opinion.

I like the watch and time/speed chart in GW.....took my few days before I realise it was there :oops:

Manual Targeting ? What's that ? :doh: I was hoping for some sympathy here.

Seriously though. It does sit almost unobtrusively in the top edge of the screen at the start of patrols but it is obtrusive enough to draw my vision so much that I'm always inclined to shove it out the way somewhere so that as little of it as possible shows on screen. Whenever I've needed a timer I always used the Periscope screen, but I guess we all have our own methods.

I work in Film, where we're conditioned to the idea that any object which interupts
the visual frame of a picture (Such as a small flickering hair trapped in a projector or camera gate, drawing our gaze like a fly to the proverbial cowpat) is evil and must be eliminated at all cost. Perhaps that's why I hate the big wooden clock so much.

I used a fix a while back to make the menu bar dissapear down to just one pixel, showing only when required. Was hoping I could do the same with the clock, if not make it go away completely since I dont really use it..

It wouldnt be so bad if I could actually stop and start it at will...Then I could time my crew during crash dive drills just to make sure they were keeping on form.

Okay I admit there was one occassion where the clock might have come in useful...To throw at the damned Weapons Officer who I'm sure hates me, judging by the way he looks at me.

Personaly i wouldnt mind getting rid of it for the periscope and uzo views, as its just a duplicate of the working stopwatch. It is usefull though in the nav map view

Hi macstu23,

open your menu_1024_768.ini in ...\SilentHunterIII\data\Menu and look for this block:

[G3F Ixxx]
Name=Dial
Type=1031;Stat bmp array
ItemID=0x3FF00000
ParentID=0x3F000000
Pos=80,1017,214,248; original=990
Materials=1
Display=0;No stretch
Mat 0=data/menu/gui/Chronometer.tga
Crop 0=0,0.03125,0.8359375,0.96875
MatFlags=0x29
TexFmt=0x9
Drag=true
BmpState=1
NeedFocus=true
SelOne=true
IdGroup=0
StatesColors=0xFFFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF

I increased the orange value from original 990 to 1017, so the wooden clock is invisible but nevertheless it's possible to drag it down if needed. Maybe the value of 1017 doesn't work for you [clock not draggable anymore] because I use a different texture than in GW --> so you have to fiddle around with that value by decreasing or increasing it [try & error].

Give it a try - it's not difficult

Nice one...ty square. I can tell I'm in a minority here but I'll give it a go. :D

After a little bit of tweaking I found a value of 1010 worked best for me. Keeps the clock out of sight from the start but I'm still able to drag it with the mouse when required. I guess that's better than losing it completely.

Thanks :up:
