I am in August 1941 in Grey Wolves. When do the air attacks start happening? I have only seen 3 airplanes & that was early in the war.

Do you play with high TC?

yeah when I am headed some where I use 1024, when I am hunting I use 64-512TC

I had the same poblem.
But someone said if you go between 128 and 256 TC you will harresed by planes.
It worked for me and now even in late 39 near the coast of the uk that is i cant get away from the buzzing things.

Yep you will miss out on aircraft over 256 T\C
I save the high T\C for out in the atlantic - unless I dont want to see any :rotfl:
you will miss out on aircraft over 256 T\C
why?:-?

Why indeed :rotfl:
Lol I cant give you a definative answer but I believe it has to do with the computer running the units in the background from waypoint to waypoint
At high T\C they miss out waypoint B on the way from A to C
Or something like that :rotfl:
Basically they skip waypoint so you will miss them
Well thats what I have gathered in my time on here
Might be total b*ll*x but whatever the reason you will miss them at high T\C

Oh they will happen,they will happen so much that you will get sick of the site of them,i don't get the 256tc thing I usually go anything between 512-2048tc and I get jumped quite regular.

I get the odd one or two at high T\C yes but nowhere near as many as when i keep T\C lowish

I ran a partial patrol to test something new today.
April 1943. I was attacked by aircraft five times in the Bay of Biscay. At least one of which begun at 512x TC.
During the second half of 1942 you will begin to notice an increase in the number of air attacks...
In 1943... you'll learn to hate air attacks... especially in the Bay of Biscay. The presence of AC is nearly constant.
If you are lucky enough to get a U-Flak as an escort... stay nearby it... but not TOO closely LOL. :arrgh!:
I read somewere that replacing the GW Airstrike CFG file with the original one makes them attack at high TC

Nope... it has to do with computational game engine vs. CPU lag.
No matter what Airstrike Cfg you use... the problem remains.
At high TC, you and an enemy can pass each other by several kilometers without detecting the other.
Another way of explaining it... At high TC you may pass between the enemy AC's "attempts" to detect you... or vice versa. The result is the same.
Roughly speaking, airstrike CFG determines how often locally available airbases spawn their planes. This is in part determined by your actions or inaction in-game.

I intend to turn my sub into a U-Flak just as soon as the right conning tower and weapons are available, just to see what it's like. Probably means I'll have way too many gunners, but it's just for experimentation
Two Flakvierling and a Twin 3.7cm FK M 42 sounds just up my alley.

Perhaps it would be helpful to restate the reply I gave to a similar question a few months ago:
"Concerning time compression (TC):
SH3 calculates the position of every unit (or unit block, such as a convoy) at every time unit (whatever the internal time tick may be). If you run at 1xTC then no unit, including your U-boat, has travelled very far when the update comes. At 128xTX, everything has moved 128 times further before updates occur. At 1024xTC everything has moved quite a distance before the updates occur. So a ship or aircraft may jump suddenly into the middle of your field of view when it wasn't visible before. Alternatively, it may hop completely over the U-boat without either side ever seeing the other. I think use of TC above 512 is unwise, except to accelerate travel to remote patrol areas.
It is possible to use interpolation routines to check whether two units have hopped over each other without spotting one another. I've done it myself for a customer, but it is complicated and Ubisoft, probably wisely, has decided not to add the extra computational burden."

I've tried every concievable T/C Even staying on the surface in good weather & yes in the bay of where all the French/German bases are & still no aircraft attacks ! Oct. 41

Wired all i done was just play betwwen 128 and 256 TC and always saw planes on patrol:hmm: .
How long did you spend at the lower TC?
I started a new career the other day and got bombed in sept of 39 off the coast of the UK.
And one more time so everyone gets it.
At high TC, if you have an average PC, the game lags. Imagine your PC as a rabbit that jumps (=lag), it jumps, looks back, jumps, looks back. When a AC passes you with high TC, your 'rabbit' jumps and looks back and spots the plane and it jumps back to the point where the AC was, but the AC is already elsewhere. Sooo, the rabbit shrugs his shoulders and goes on jumping.
Complicated enough? :rotfl:

I think I 've solved one of my problems. I uninstalled everything & re- installed SH3, SH3 Commander 2.6 ( I originally had 2.4), 1.4 patch & only the Grey Wolves Mod. I originally had the Grey Wolve Mod & the NYGM mod over each other. I do now have more ship traffic. I am approaching Scappa Flow in which I had had seen air traffic previously & am hoping now with only the Grey Wolves mod in that I see air traffic. I am running at a low T/C . Can you tell me how to find out where the air traffic is?

I think your problem would have been that GW and NYGM were moded on top of each other. This causes many problems so it is not recomended to be done. Now that you are only use one mod GW, you should see plenty of AC when you play between 128 and 256 TC. If you pull down the map in the top left hand corner of the navigation station this shows you the air coverage depending on what year of the war. The should be a index at the top left hand corner of this map. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that BBW tryed to get that up but for some reason it just would not work.

I had exactly the same problem described by HiredGun using GW(only mod i use). Now I'm in mid 44, I see plenty of AC's. By the way, why haven't I seen one victory cargo ship so far? I've seen plenty of convoy action and saw lots of liberty cargos
but not a single victory cargo. Is this normal in GW?

There are plenty of Victory ships in the rnd layer which spawns the convoys
Maybe you just havent met the right convoys yet
They werent in all of them
Oh and they dont appear till 1944
What od I have rto do to increase the frequency of air raids. Would someone be kind enough to post a step by step i.e 1,2,3 ?

Ah Shahed we meet again :rotfl: just answered another of your threads
Airstrike.cfg in the cfg folder
Default Air Strike Probability=50 <------------ increase this
Enemy Air Strike Probability Increase on Radio Messages Sent=40<-----increase
Enemy Air Strike Probability Increase on Player Detection=60<---------increase
You can even increase this
Logic Steps Between Air Sessions=10 ;[>0] steps between air fighting sessions, 10*Logic Interval(90sec)
:rotfl: ahh there you are again ! Well thanks a lot Wooly, much obliged ! :up:
Ok I went into the airbases, in the LND layer but I'm not sure which ones are small, large etc although it should be written on the LND layer. I'm also not sure how to change the sqdns on an airfield. By simply adding a sqdn seems ot be a risk, because it looks like every sqdn has it's own sqdn number, if I'm not mistaken. So I'd need a list of the sqdns in game before I could change anything. Any idea how I can manage this ?
Man once we are done, I'm sure all these answers can be used for a modding tutorial. You da man !

Sigh :rotfl:
The airbases are in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Land
[AirGroup 1]
StartDate=19380101
EndDate=19401225
Squadron1Class=FBHurricaneMk1
Squadron1No=10
Squadron2Class=TBSSwordfish
Squadron2No=12
You can add a squadron just make the numbers follow on
The next one on the example above would be Squadron3
Looking at the LND in mission ed you can pick an airbase near where you want to increase aircover - right click then properties and it will tell you the size of the airbase
Thats the folder you need to open in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Land
Oops I've asked that before, just remembered. Sorry just wanted to be sure that the numbers' don't cause any issue. MANY MANY Thanks great Sensei !
SALUTE !

I looked in the files\ubisoft\silenthunterIII\data\land & I looked in the airbases where the squadrons are listed & the number of planes my squadrons have are only 1 or 2 is this right for the 1st 2 squadrons? Do I just add squadron 3 to it & a plane name & how many planes I want? I am confused. Do I add the 3rd squadron to all air groups?

You can increase the amount of aircraft in a squadron and add another if you like
Depends on the size of the airbase you opened as to how many aircraft are in there

Where do I findthe size of the airbase? Thanks
They are named in sizes
LAB_SmallAirBaseCa = small air base Canada
LAB_NormalAirBaseIt = Normal air base Italy
They come in very small\small\normal and large
Something for everyone :rotfl:
