Using the Grey Wolves mod, I've noticed that I can't select armour peircing rounds when in the deck gun any more. So where have they gone?

Same thing with NYGM
Donīt know if the reason is same for both mods but for NYGM the amount of HE shells is added and AP and starshells removed as latter were not used in Uboote historically or if they were, only as with such small amounts it is almost equal to not having them.

Fair enough. I have managed to sink a small navy boat with the HE shells though I'm not sure how efficient they'd be against a big boy. I do understand though that they're for finishing off a damaged ship. Still, worth a pop-shot at destroyers :)

Most evidence seems to point out that Uboats only carried HE shells

Yep pretty much, and i wouldnt take pop shots at destroyers if i were you, as they out gun you big time and have a much better firing platform.
Also with AP rounds we never did determine if they did anything special, their list damage in the game files was a fair amount lower then the HE rounds.

I pumped 78 rounds into a medium cargo at the water line before she started to list.
Unfortunatly it took so long they had time to call Mommy and the DD's came swooping in.
We had enough time to fire the stern tube at the Medium Cargo and high tail it out of there. Which aint easy to do in 25 meters of water.
No credit
On a side note... I still have the Star Shells. I know cause I was firing them at the band on the way out of the harbor :0
Bernard was at your deckgun again eh? takes over mine all the time...:rotfl:

It might be an idea to remove the AP icon altogether from the next GW release;).

I just edited the .cfg file and put 'em back, lol. Not for any particular reason, it just cheesed me off to have the AP icon there without actually having any AP rounds, lol. Gave myself 100 rounds. Have you noticed how long it takes to sink anything with the deckgun in GW now? Half your ammo disappears just to scupper a small merchant! Still, saves a torp though.

Do you still get credited for the sinking if you use the deck gun?

Yes.

yes i think GW overdid the nerfing of the deckgun, iam doubting that the crew of a c2 could keep the ship afloat with over 60 holes below the waterline.
best i can see at the moment is that the guns fire rate was about 10 rounds per minute. as oppose to GW's 2 rounds per week.

Yes but you still have to "witness" the sinking. In other words if you dont "see" it sink you dont get credit. Which can be pretty problematic when the ship takes an hour to sink :nope:
Is that true before modded ? I dont remember.

I understand you need to acknowledge a sinking, but there have been plenty of times I've been below periscope depth and I got a cheer and "She's going down!" and I was credited...
I've also sank 2 ships using 3 precious torps at periscope depth and never got credited :(

Bloody Band.. I've never thought of doing that but will do it next time I leave Port; they follow me from Port to Port and they only know one tune ! Grrrr ! I don't mind the Nurses throwing Flowers at us but they all look like Hounds !

Couldn't the AP and HE shells be replaced? As it is, you have to man the gun and load the HE shells to use them, otherwise you'll be stuck with it having loaded a non-existing AP shell you can't fire. Or is that meant to be that way?

This is true: a good gun crew could put out 10 rounds per minute, but they couldn't do it for very long and they couldn't do it in a rolling, pitching boat and they couldn't do it once the ready-use ammo was gone, and they couldn't hit the broad side of a barn at that rate of fire, none of which is modelled in the game.

Its meant to be that way so as when you man the deck gun you havent already got one in the breech
You have to wait while the HE loads
