Hey

was just wondering if it makes sense to turn off the SDT radar but keep the ADT going to be able to defend vs. sudden missile attacks or if just tells the enemy sub where you are.

I was thinking that the azimut of the ADT radar waves is too high to be picked up by the subs ESM mast.

cheers

1) I'm pretty sure that the current model does not really model that.
2) If the ADT radar scans only on elevations high enough the sub's ESM can't pick up anything, it'd be so high it won't be able to pick up low flying antiship missiles or even longer range contacts at moderate altitudes.

Yeah, iirc, I think that the SDT is the radar system that will actually pick up ASCMs not the ADT. Whether or not its detectable would be an interesting experiment. It would either take a multiplayer test between to people or someone to setup a practice scenario with a AI sub to launch whenever it detects a ESM signal from the FFG.

Unless someone has came up with something different. The ESM will pick up any radar emissions.
Try most of the missions with aircraft and you will see that. I don't know enough about the various wave lengths involved, I was a nuke, but I know we would get radar emissions, if there were any being emitted anytime we stuck up a scope. This would give bearing and signal strength and if they want to id the signal they would use the ESM mast. Periscopes have a short stub detector that we used to warn us if someone was emitting. You will here this in SC,DW, and 688i and you can see the signal strength.

I have already done a multiplayer test with ADT. It is detectable by subs. A thing to experiment with is if you can detect one at a greater range than the other.
