View Full Version : Passenger liner woes

So there I am, sailing my new IXB into the Irish channel to reach the patrol grid. Submerged during the day, surfaced to recharge at night, late 1940. No mods, other than some legacies from trying out mods with the Mod Enabler that were left behind on disabling the mods.

A sound contact turns out to be a UK passenger liner, travelling at 21kts. It's daytime, but I must surface to close the contact and intercept the liner's route. Very excited - this is the biggest vessel I've had chance to sink since SH3 first came out - I set up the intercept, open the tube doors and, not one to waste opportunities, fire two T2s and two fast T1s, three under-the-keel magnetic and one impact aimed at the engine room. Timing it right, all four hit simultaneously and detonate. Wonderful! 15,100 tons sent to the bottom and added to my score.

Only an hour or so later (game time and real time) I get another contact - the same! Another UK passenger liner, arriving in the UK on the same route at 21kts, and I pretty much duplicate the procedure. The only difference is, I wasn't confident I could get a good line-up for the impact shot this time, so I fired four magnetics. That beautiful ship went down like a stone.

And I wasn't credited for the kill. Nothing on the 'K' list, no 'sunk ship' icon on the map, nada. It certainly went down, though, and the water wasn't all that shallow.

I'd heard of this bug, and seem to recall that it's to do with saved games (Windows Update was insisting that I reboot, so I had to save), but I'd never encountered it before. And what do I lose when I get the bug? A trawler? A small merchant? No, a *!@! passenger liner. :damn:

Ah, well. That's life.

It seems you have sumbled across the Passenger liner route. It you stay in the area you will get further contacts. There is a glitch in when you sink a liner, a ghost may appear and despite sinking them, you will get no credit.

A little tip, if you hit a passanger liner with a single torp, or a couple of deck gun rounds it will slow to around 7 knots, making it a easer target. If you use the deck gun, aim at the water line, especialy the high side of the ship if it has a list. (the side more exposed):arrgh!:

Meaning that only the 1st kill gets credited?

Curious why your traveling submerged durring the day in 1940? Is the Irish channel that well patrolled durring that year? Even if they spot me I usually have time for a crash dive that early in the war.

Your right there I was hunting a few patrols ago of the coast of Port of Spain and attacked a convoy consisting mainly of Troop Transports and it had a liner in it sank the liner and most of the transports, dropped back to reload and whent in again but failed to catch up and next thing a liner appeared sank her but no credit, (ghost ship) a little further on made contact again and fired 2 fish towards her as the torps hit her she spawned an vanished, damm annoying it is:damn:

:hmm: I had this with an C3, I shot it, Dived because an Warship was closing....she sank while I was busy getting away from the Destroyers path to avoid the Sonar. and I didnt get the message She's Going Down, and now sign on the Map. But when I sended an Status and Patrol report and recieved an Message the Tonnage showed up from that C3.:p

ps: the Next time Windows updat insist an Reboot, think ''Windows Can Wait, an Passenger Liner cant!''
