I seem to recall reading somewhere that it's possible to dual-install SHIII to be able to run/compare different mod configs. I've searched but can't find anything. Could someone point me to a thread discussing this or just briefly explain how to do it (if I'm right that it is possible).

OK
Install SH3 and patch to 1.4
Rename this SilentHunterIII folder ( the one in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft ) to say SilentHunterIIIGrey Wolves - or whatever mod you plan to put on
Now put your DVD back in and click on install
Then click on repair and it will create another SilentHunterIII folder which you then patch to 1.4
You can do this as many times as you like for as many different mods as you want

Alternatively you can just copy the whole SilentHunterIII folder and paste it it

IMHO I find the first method faster and better

When I tried Bibboywooly's first method, it didn't work for me.
I found copying the SilentHunterIII folder sucessful, however.

I haven't gotten around to doing this yet, but when I do (soon) I guess I'll try the copy folder method. Just one question ... when you start the game after, whether "directly" or via SH3, how do you point to start the version you want?

Go into each folder and drag the .EXE onto desktop to create a shortcut
Name that shortcut as to what install it is
My desktop currently has 5 on it :rotfl:

I was using a much more difficult way but tried BBW's yesterday and it worked perfect, thanks!
But, when you do this you should first delete the desktop icon exe and rename the exe in the SH3 folder to the name you change it to then create a short cut and move that new named short cut exe to the Desktop.
Now you can install the new game or 3 or 4.

Gotcha and tks Wulfmann also. But ... (and sorry for being thick) that's fine if you're starting SH3 directly, but what if you're starting it via SH3Cmdr, how do you tell Cmdr which exe to point to?

Bert, I do not know. I would suggest you make the one you use with CMDR the normal named SH3 (Which means it must be the last installed version) and the other(s) make a new name SH3 SHIII SHIIIB etc. Just make the exe in the folder then make a create shortcut from that new named version.
But, I am relaying what I would do if I ran CMDR so am guessing really

About midway down the page JScones explains exactly how to do it.

Most basic thing here is not to forget that you shouldn't load one career from more than one installations...

Good call VH - forgot to mention that
All careers will show uo in all installations so remember which career goes with which one as will CTD if in mid patrol and most likely even in base
