View Full Version : CADC soon to be restarted ...

I just aquired the webspace as well as two domain names to bring the CADC back to a new life.

The new URLs will be :
- www.commanders-academy.com (Primary)
- www.commanders-academy.net (Secondary, and so far not activated)

Unfortunatly there was no way for me to get hold of Smuook to reactivate OW or for that matter aquire the www.orionwarrior.com domain name, hence I decided to start fresh. The webspace is bought, but I have to wait for confirmation and then get everything squared away, so it will take some time before the above mentioned URLs will be accessible.

The CADC will bring back a lot (if not all) of the stuff you were used to, for starters the scheduling area, the arcade and other things. On top of that I plan to introduce some new stuff, which I will reveal at a later time.

Stay tuned, I'll update this thread once the CADC is accessible again.

This is good news OS and the site has been sorely missed. :yep:

May we hope that you will be able to bring back the information from many contributers who were incented to provide assistance to Newbies ?
Articles like the one from Molon Labe on weapons deployment spring to mind - I hope such are not lost ?

If 'loss' is the case it has to be said that many of us will want firm assurances that in future such material will be adequately protected/backed-up !

We mus'nt forget that the raison d'etre of the original site and I hope its new replacement was/is to act as a Newbie gathering point and an introduction to DW as well as beeing a repository for help and advice.

That said I wish you all the best with the site and thank you for all you have done for us in the past. :sunny:

Well,

I do have some backups, tho I don't know yet whats in there ... but I think that roughly 80% of the articles can be restored (well I do hope that). But for the future, such losses as happend now should not happen again.

And yes the mission statement of the CADC stays the same (tho it may be expanded a bit).

Good News ...

Webspace and Domain Name procurement is complete and I just have to wait till the DNS servers are updated before http://www.commanders-academy.com will be live. So far the good news ...

As I mentioned I have only a very old backup from January, which I will try to get back up on the new webspace and try to get it working again, but no promises there. If it doesnt work then I will start with a fresh install and try to repost as much as possible.

More to come

Real good news ... well sorta

I successfully uploaded the last backup I had (unfortunatly from January 2006), now I have to clean out the setup some, get rid of a lot of addons and then go through the process of bringing the software up to the actual version.

Now whats lost ?
- Everything between the last backup and the time OW went down
- All the Arcade stuff (Arcade is going to be reinstalled somewhere down the road, but everybody will start with a clean sheet)
- some minor stuff like a few vBJournal entries.

But and thats a good thing, most of the stuff, especially the Tips & Tricks section should be back in full (well till Jan 11th).

Cheers

Little update ...

old Backup uploaded and installed, now I'm in the process of cleaning out the junk (non-functional addons and so on, not the articles) sorting through the folders and getting everything ship shape. After that I have to do some serious work on the style to get it to the point I like. Once thats done and everything is back in working order I will reopen the CADC for business.

The links will be :
- www.commanders-academy.com (Links to the Portal and is main adress/domain)
- www.commanders-academy.net (Links directly to the forum)

So far the Portal is back in the basic version (needs some modifying) and the Links directory is back up as well. More to come ...

Cheers
