I was out on my second patrol, and suddenly got buggered by something. My question is: Are there mines around Dover? Or is this a crash? I don`t think any enemy ships were THAT close. (I was running along in periscope depth)

:nope: Mines, but even without mines...the english chanal is just pure suicidal for an submarine to enter it...to much warship traffic an low depth...once you get detected you're pretty much screwed.

Mines tend to cause characteristic damage: they kill both your radio and sonar men, and turn that compartment red. They also tend to burn up the conning tower. And you hit them when you are running at PD within a reasonable distance of shore.

From personal experience; mines can also be hit while running at 8 kts on the surface. Killed my sonar operator and wounded one of the watch crew, damaged the radio room and the bridge. All were repairable.

Buckets full just open the "Campaign.scr"in mission editor and you will see what i mean.

Also, looking at your crew management, you have 7 men in the bow torpedo room, but your forward crew compartment is almost completely flooded! You did have the DC team working, which was good, but every man you can get in there helping the DC is good, and will help the repair.

(DC in this instance, is Damage Control)

Oh, so it helps to put men in the damaged compartments? Didn`t know that, I just thought it all came down to the damage control-dudes.

Looks like it pranged the barell of your 88 gun too.

Anyone know what happens if you hit the mines anchor chain?

And nets, can you ram through them with a net cutter, or are they just for looks?

I have to admit I looked at the GW campaign SCR file in the editor, and all the mines and nets are unbelievable. Good luck getting into Lock Ewe!

From my experience..if you hit the mines anchor chain the mine will still detonate :-?
The net cutter is there for show..hit a net and it's a whole new world of hurt :p

Yes, but if you go really deep - I mean scraping the seabed - the damage is minor. It happened to me, and I just got some easy-to-fix dents. I surfased really quickly just in case that was just luck.

Where are there most mines?:-?

I've never hit one and I'd like to try, btw. I'm using GW 1.1A and a IXB sub.:yep:

If I go on PD, silent running right through the middle between Calais and Dover, d'ya think I'll hit a mine?:D

Yes! I have been blown up two out of two times recently.

(The pics in this thread are taken between Dover and Calais)

I have started running the long way around. :D
