I do not have a lot of info on GZ so if someone else does please speak up. I know she was built at Kiel but in Mid 1940 was moved (work was stopped to divert effort to U-Boar constuction), returned there mid 42 and then when work was suspended again was moved to Stettin where she was scuttled in 45.
I would just place her in Kiel myself for eye candy but am not sure what would be correct.
I will post a docked ship to add to your SCR file once I have an idea and you will only need to open the SCR and paste it correcting the unit number to be the last unit in your SCR (Just scroll down until you run out of units)

The Flugzeugträger A (Carrier A) was laid down on 28th December 1936 at the Deutsche Werke shipyard, Kiel. On the 08th December 1938, Flugzeugträger A was launched as the Graf Zeppelin with a projected completion date of late 1940.
Having had little experience with carrier construction, German designers and engineers were slowed by construction and design problems. This, added with Görings reluctance to allow a separate air arm other than the Luftwaffe, eventually halted construction of the aircraft carrier in April 1940. Graf Zeppelin, now laid up, had her artillery removed for use in coastal defences before she was towed to Gotenhafen.

In 1942 work was restarted on the carrier (having being moved back to Kiel in December 1942), as it was obvious at this time that the kriegsmarine needed a ship of this type to support its major surface units. Graf Zeppelin was approximately 85% complete when work was once again halted in early1943 (work being stopped on Hitler’s orders after the Kriegsmarines poor performance during the Battle of the Barents Sea, 31st December 1942). In April 1943 she was moved to Stettin where she remained until she was scuttled in shallow water on 25th April 1945.
After the German surrender, Russian forces raised the Graf Zeppelin (at this stage the carriers fate becomes clouded, but what follows is believed to be the most accurate), renaming her the PO-101 (floating base 101) on the 03rd February 1947. On the 14th August 1947 she was towed to Swinemünde and loaded with aerial bombs. She was then used as a target and destroyed by shells, bombs and finally tordedoes on the 16th August 1947.
Sorry bout the double post but for some reason it kept leaving half the text out ?

Thanks BBW but that was the info I had. I was hoping for more exact placement but in reality our bases do not resemble any of the real ones so it is not that big a deal.
I noticed a few things this being the later revised GZ it is way short on AA but I do not plan on sending her to sea so that is no biggy. It also does not have the side props to move her in port and is missing one of her port side props, at least mine is.
Any how. For those that do not want to place this via the mission editor (the better way) as noted above one can open the SCR.mis file in the campaign folder and scroll down to the last unit listed and then paste this after that. (Important)Then edit the unit number you see here to be the last number in your list and this will show up as the screen below. You will see it in Kiel for almost a year (About the time you transfer to France)

Awesome work on the AC!
And thanks to you Wulfmann posting the location!
A little question...
So the ship was never completed the planes on flightdeck looks a little strange to me.
Nice for a hypotetical campaign where germany is more succesful with his naval stuff,
but not for having the ship achored like wulfmann did with it.
Can you as well do a variant without planes? :p

Missing prop
I notised the same thing but in the readme it says its a known issue.
"Missing propeller, because their were no specific node left."
So I guess there isnt a way to add the last prop to her... :-?

G, I agree this carrier should not have planes but it was not built as a historic unit to stay in port as under construction and instead take part in a what if thing, I am guessing!
It would be very nice it this could be modded to look like the early version while under construction, that would be way cool!:yep:
SW, Read Me? Ugh, I am an American! We do not read instruction or ask for directions when traveling.

Hi Wulfmann, I wanted to place the Graf Zeppelin in Kiel like you mentionned in your post by editing the scr.mis and pasting the corresponding lines. Unfortunately I have a CTD when I launch the game. I precise that I changed the unit number to be the last of my list. I'm running GW 1.1a.
Any idea to solve my problem?
Thanks

Try deleting what you have added and add thru mission editor
There is a link above in one of my posts that give basic instructions how to do it
Where Wulfmann has added his may be another ship in your game already
Use the mission ed - zoom into kiel and have a look at a free space and add ship there
Come to think of it open mission ed before you delete and see exactly where your added ship is - may be on another ship or even land if the harbours differ
Worth a try
Fabrice

You're right bigboywooly, the chance to find a ship (or even land) at the same place is probably the issue...
Thanks, will give a try with the mission editor.

Actually, the reason I put the GZ there was because there was no ship there.
You must paste the above as the last unit in the SCR then change the number so it is the next number after the last unit.
But, adding it with the mission editor is better if only so you see how it is done.

Are you using GW1.1A too Wulfmann?
Trouble with all the different varients of scr is different ships in different places
When I was playing around with adding sub bases I noticed that in GW was ok but in another like warace there were ships already where harbour was and when I got there they were bouncing off the walls:rotfl:
And when I added my sub tender to Lorient it was ok but in Warace it was half built inside the port as Lorient is placed on the other side of the bank:damn:
I think mission ed is the only safe way to add things like this unless you are using an scr add on for that was designed for the mod you are using
Wulfmann
07-07-06, 12:22 PM
Yes I am using GW1.1.
But Mission editor can also lead to a problem.
If you were to add GZ to 1939 you are looking at the 1939 map and if you leave it into 1944 something else might show up later.
Certainly you are corect that placing the GZ where I put is must be with GW but I doubt stock has anything there. Best way to check is after pasting that; open mission editor first, even if you know nothing about it. If that is any problem Mission editor will open and then it will tell you it must close when you open SCR.

Enjoy.
Yeah, I have read about Graf Zeppelin, and it is interesting that the wreck isn't located, I'm sure that the location of the ship is somewhere in the old Soviet archives but nobody hasn't bothered to find out. One possibility if of course the Gulf of Finland, I found it fascinating that there may bes a wreck of aircraft carrier near finnish coast. ;)
I hope that her final fate will be discovered.

GZ can't be lockated just because she was used for tests, sunk by torpedoes and than wrecks were dismounted in 1950s.
If she was sunk in deep water, then she probably wouldn't have been salvaged. There doesn't appear to be any record of such a salvage either. Does anyone know for sure?

Some news?
After 61 years of no information about place of sinking Graf Zeppelin finaly it is discoverd! It lay on 80 meters near Polish port Leba. The position was one of metioned in archives. The wreck was discoverd by Petrobaltic company that was looking for oil.
It's the biggest wreck on Polish coast.
That's in telegraphic shortcut.
If someone know Polish here is the article.

The Polish oil company Petrobaltic discovered the shipwreck earlier this month on the sea floor about 38 miles north of the northern port city of Gdansk.
Suspecting it could be the wreckage of the Graf Zeppelin, the Polish Navy sent out a hydrographic survey vessel on Tuesday, said Lt. Cmdr. Bartosz Zajda, a spokesman for the Polish Navy.
"We are 99 percent sure — even 99.9 percent — that these details point unambiguously to the Graf Zeppelin," said Dariusz Beczek, the Navy commander of the vessel, the ORP Arctowski, said soon after returning to port Thursday morning after the two-day expedition.
During their time at sea, naval experts used a remote-controlled underwater robot and sonar photographic and video equipment to gather digital images of the 850-foot-long ship, Zajda said.
"The analyses of the sonar pictures and the comparison to historical documents show that it is the Graf Zeppelin," Zajda told The Associated Press.
Zajda said a number of characteristics of the shipwreck exactly matched those of the Graf Zeppelin, including the ship's measurements and a special device that lifted aircraft onto the launch deck from a lower deck.
The naval experts were still waiting to find the name "Graf Zeppelin" on one the ship's sides before declaring with absolute certainty that it is the German carrier, Zajda said.
The Graf Zeppelin was Germany's only aircraft carrier during World War II. It was launched on Dec. 8, 1938, but never saw action. After Germany's defeat in 1945, the Soviet Union took control of the ship, but it was last seen in 1947 and since then the ship's fate has been shrouded in mystery.
Navy researchers plan to continue to examine the material they gathered during their two days at sea, but the analysis of the shipwreck will then fall to historians and other researchers, Zajda said.
The Graf Zeppelin will almost certain remain on the sea bed, he said.
"Technically it's impossible to pull it out of the water," Zajda said.

but arent we going in to the " WHAT IF " ??? ... this makes me think that a campaing in a "what if " scenario would be very nice , and it would allow everyone to experience longuer the XXI boats.

SH3 came out of the Box with "What if" - pray tell do you recall a wee lil thing called a Type VII/42 by any chance? Plus add to that the fact that the Type IIA was not realy used as a front line sub but mostly as a training vessel, well you get the idea.
Makes me dream of a dynamic campaign.
