After some experiences!
- LwAmi files are incompatible ith the french version  (error code 13001)
- Can't play in MP with US and French version
It appear the db have not the same filename : FDB for french verison and EDB for english verison (??). We will try do more tests.
It's a shame......Don't know if i'll buy the french version finally....:damn:

Wait, lets be clear about this : is the stock french version incompatible with the stock us version ? Or is the incompatibility only on the modded version ?

At this time some can't play with LwAmi in SP and MP
Some can't play with FR Version with other in US (with/without LwAmi)
but others can do all with FR as we do with US version.
We are investigating about this problems.

Indeed
this + the very small french manual (1/5 of the english one) = less copies to sell here in France :(

If it's a matter of three letters, and the difference is the same throughout the DB, could a script be written to rename the relevant files, or is it more complex than that?

who knows
maybe someone from scs can answer that question (if they know) ?

We certainly did not intend anyone with the English, French, or German versions not to be able to play MP together... We'll take a look.
Thanks!

That would be nice from you Jamie  cause some of the new players have waited so long to get their FR release !
feel free to use our email to get in touch with us if needed :

Edit : Jamie we ran some testing to understand and let me show you
This is my DW version (US) database folder :

This is the French version 1.03 (without Lwami)
http://www.mille-sabords.com/forum/uploads/post-1608-1151960585_thumb.jpg
Finally the French version 1.03 + Lwami

As you can see the French vers comes with new prefixes "F" instead of "E" for mine. I guess the F stands for French when the E means E.
So in my understanding, the game simply doesn't care about what it doesn't know and with the "E" files.
Then we tried something else and uninstalled the Lwami to move back to the regular 1.03 game and try to play MP with a US game and a FR game.
And we got this :
- Client databases are different than the Host
- Client interface files are different than the host

I wonder if renaming them (the LWAMI files) would work, or would this cause problems again?

we just tried, moved the lwami files from the /mod/lwami/database to the dw/database and renamed all files from exxxx to fxxxx
when connecting to the host (US version) we just get a message saying the interface files are not the same but nothing about the database files, that's maybe a good point but I hope it doesn't do weird things with the game ?

I think you guys may have the solution there.
If the game loads for the French players with the renamed files with no errors, and you guys can connect without database errors, then the problem should be solved.
In terms of the interface files, they were probably updated with french text for the firecontrol, etc., so that's probably what the error message is from, but I feel good that it won't effect gameplay.
Thanks for keeping us updated! :)

I'm glad to hear your positive feedback Luftwolf and I thank you again for your fantastic mod :)
I have one more question for you or Jamie.
Let's say a host and a client have different database files. The game starts after the warning but what happens then ? What version counts ? host or client ? or a mix of both ?
ps : tonight is our weekly online training (for the french community) and we'll go through several games I believe, so we'll see what happens then.

Phullbrick,
The host will be the 'master', if memory serves.

Cool, that's not a severe problem.
It would be nice if we could get a patch that suppresses the warning in that case though, because the db/int warnings are an excellent feature and it would be a shame to "lose" them!

With database mismatches, any number of bad things can happen. I've seen: kilo's launching Krivak FFG's from their torpedo tubes (resulting in the Kilo getting run over by the ship it just launched  ), buildings flying like 747's, swimming missiles and flying torpedoes, and ships sitting in the middile of land, to name just a few.
I've come across several interface mismatches and actually never had a problem... I think that is more to prevent cheating or players playing with an unannounced advantage, such as playing with the 16 Grams Mod for the MH60 (which I've heard causes other problems as well, but I'm not sure... the modder adapted the Orion sonobuoy interface for the MH60, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are some incompatibilties).
So, my advice is not to play if there are database mismatches, it simply makes the game too unstable and unpredictable for me to really feel like I'm comfortable in the game, however, it may turn out that the French and English versions only produce the warning, but do not actually have incompatibilities that would cause errors.
I would try to eliminate the errors by renaming files, etc. but if you can't get rid of them, you might get lucky, so let us know what happens! :)
Cheers,
David

Thank you James and Luftwolf.
So far the online game is stable. We only had an interface warning message so I guess we've found a fix.
One of our member changed the names of the files in the Lwami and we made a new zip for the french version to be downloaded on Mille-Sabords.
I'm breathing again ;)
