Are there anyone using the weather mod? does it work correctly or there is a bug in it or something? I've been in this stormy weather for the last 27 days and the wheather never change, just rain and fog in stormy sea, I can't do any attacking because you can't see anything farther than 300m. I've been patrolling and waiting for the weather to change and it never does...I am so sick and tired of this, It's not fun anymore, so I just get back to base and start the next patrol. But the same thing is happening again...the first few days is nice and sunny you sink some ship, and then the weather change to the stormy sea until you get back to base and start the next patroll again like it stuck in the stormy loops or something and can't never get out. Does anyone experience this? and what is the best thing to do after that? I have NYGM 2.1 installed and weather mod

Have you tried re-installing it? I've actually had rain when leaving port, or seas even smoother than the 5 m/s the stock version always starts with. I've had long periods of good and bad weather, but so far nothing longer that two weeks.

The SH3 Weather Generator only works to set the weather at the start of a patrol. Thereafter the SHIII engine takes over. Apparently the weather stays the same for about five days and then randomly changes. If you save a game, the randomizer resets with the weather you have and you will have at least five more days of that weather. Also if you use time compression above (? I think) 128, the days don't count, any you can have the same weather forever.

Hello Irish!
Are you sure what you are talking about? Because, I use to do savings a lot because I use only TC256 at max. and this means it's just 3 gamedays per evening for me, even less if there is some action with TC1. Despite that my weather use to change just ok. I have found maybe just couple times rough weather to stay more than 10 - 12 days. So I think there must be something wrong in your theory. Othervice the weather wouldn't change ever for me.

Novadays I use the weather mod, but I played a long time without it.

Greetings,

Is there no way to change that behavior? Like some setting to make any time compression work for the purpose of advancing the weather? I frequently travel at 256 or 512. No wonder I have had gale-force winds for a month.

And does the randomizer reset on a load or on a save? The reason I ask is I save CONSTANTLY (afraid of crashes and the like), but I only reload when I have to step away from the computer for a bit and shut SH3 down. If it resets the randomizer on a load then it sucks. If it resets it on a save then I'm screwed.

works fine here but I have noticed that if I select no rain,no fog,etc and I use tc (can use up to 2048 on mine) I don't get rain or heavy fog , I do get medium fog and choppy seas but it something I never encountered before, and am quite enjoying it going towards a convoy that's comeing out of a fog bank, I don't think the mod actually makes your entire patrol to whatever you select it to,but I could be wrong.

No, the mod isn't supposed to make it be the same the entire patrol; it's supposed to randomize it more.

Listening to Irish, it seems to be working now, just don't get TC over 128 and makes sure that you don't turn off or save the game for 5,6,7 consecutive days then I notice the weather do change...I'm a happy sailor now, let's go hunting guys.... Thanks everyone for the comments!....

Don't doubt irish1958 for he is correct. :yep:

Saving resets the randomiser, yes. Save often generally = same weather for longer.

Weather generator has worked great for me in the past, however I'll normally travel at 256 tc. Is there a way around the time compression issue?

I can see it now. In the interest of having weather that doesn't suck for 45 days straight I will not save the game and then when I'm 100 km from port it will crash on me and that will be that.

Have the devs said there is absolutely no way around this? Or could some enterprising genius of a mod designer fix this for us so that saving has no bearing on anything and that you can use any TC and the days will still advance? This to me would be one of the best mods you could ever have for this game. The (dynamic portion of the) weather model is horrible.

:hmm: Where would I find a workable download link?

If this doesn't work, PM me with your email and I will send it to you. It is a small program.

Well, I inadvertantly did a little testing yesterday. I have had so many missions where I have the crappiest weather imaginable for the entire patrol, except for departing and returning to port, I figured it was high time I used the bug for my benefit if only just once.

I departed port on 4 January1940 with 6 m/s winds and partly cloudy skies, so I decided to see if it would remain that way if I saved the game every (game) evening. Every time the sun went down, I saved the game. And I didn't ever leave the game to reload. When I stepped away from the game I paused the game and unpaused when I got back.

Five days later on 9 January 1940 the weather took its usual turn for the worst. Overcast, 15 m/s winds, and waves so high there was snow on the tops of them (just kidding). So that tells me that the weather is not reset when you SAVE the game but reset when you RELOAD from a saved game. And it also makes me think that the weather changes happen every five days or so. I figured I'd see what the weather did on 14 January.

Unfortunately for my little test, I was in a type II boat and had used up all five eels by 12 January then turned for home. So 14 January rolled around as I was entering the mouth of the Elbe and sure enough the weather cleared back up to 6 m/s winds and partly cloudy. So while that happened 5 days after the gale hit (which fits with my theory) it also happened as I was getting back into German port waters (which also fits in with my continued observations).

Moral of the story is from what I can see, the weather changes every 5 days and resets that counter if you reload a saved game. It may be a stupid system, but at least if I understand how it works I might be able to work around the bug instead of being bittenm by it repeatedly.

I've had the weather changes very soon after a reload and pass away a llittle while later. it is rather like passing through different fronts, in fact. I have also had patrols where the bad weather lasted for days on end only to clear up for a couple of days here and there. I like it, its a good program that adds a lot to the game.
