Since I started playing SH3 in May 2005 I have never had the eye of God in the game. It just never was there. 2 days ago I turned on my SH3 and I have it. It shows where ships have sunk draws instant lines from me when a ship is in range, I can even launch torpedoes from the weapon's screen and watch them hit there.
I have no idea how I have it but I would sure like to know how to make it go away.
I like the unknown; I like the scary wonder of what and where and how many escorts are after me.
This is a cheat and anyone using it is a wimp, which now includes me!
But, I do not want it.
How do I get rid of this satellite GPS system thing?
Anyone, anyone???

Anyone else thinking this: In "Das Boot" during a storm, the navigator only knew halfway their current position because of the weather, but to no realism setting in SH3 with any mods, you'll always have your GPS position on the map!
Interesting, yes/no?

Yes, many many people have thought about it, and discussed it here and on the SHIII and SHIV boards. No one has a perfect answer yet, but several have tried different ideas, none of which are perfect but we keep trying.
Wulfmann, you can either turn 'Map Contact Updates' off in the Options screen when loading the game, or use the Assisted Plotting Mod http://server3.realsimulation.com/u-boot/SH3Mods/
Also GW and NYGM both contain this mod (I think) plus the reduced contacts mod.

Rilder lighten up, so you are a wimp, embrace your wimpyness:rotfl: .
Certainly everyone should play this in whatever way makes them happy.
There is no shame in being a wimp. Well there would be for me but no one expects you to play at higher levels that you simply can not handle:o
As for why wimp mode showed up, well I had added some of those Sperrbrechers from the German Ubi site to my SCR in the harbours so I switched to have an outside view to see if they showed up. After I saw them and before I played a wimpy mission, I switched off the outside view and apparantly somehow must have undid the Map contacts updates.
Right after I posted this I went to go on patrol and checked and sure enough.
Good thing I caught it.
I am starting that career over as it would be disgracefull to have the patrols included with wimpo-updates!
It was tainted and beneath the level of the Kriegsmarine and, of course, anyone that has self respect!.
Sorry, I am just having fun with Rilder getting his shorts all in a knot!

Rilder, don't worry about him; lots of people play at all different levels
Anyway, he's just joking. Either that or the Chief puts him on report for the next three months.

Rilder just reminded me of the guy in stripes they nicknamed Psycho getting all upset because he did not relaize it was a joke.
