So I am guessing we can't travel through the Suez canal in DW. Disapointing.

If you could what would be the use it takes a average ship 12 hours it would take even longer for a submarine surfaced.

But yeah it is a shame.

Yeah... Suez and Panama are closed. It makes me sad too. They really did a very cursory job when the put together the geographic database. It's like they based it on low resolution satellite data. I wonder what it would take to do something more high resolution. As I poke around strategic spots all over the world, I notice all sorts of anomalies. The port of Aden is my favorite example. It's just... odd shaped. Port Said and the Suez canal is another good one, though.

If you load up the northern part of the Red Sea you'll see that the last parts of the Suez Canal are pretty deep and you could simulate the end of a transit if you desire.

I made a mission where a US sub is exiting the Suez and a Russian SSN is waiting to tail it after it submerges:cool:

Are you reading my mind?

I'm on the second mission of a campaign I'm creating in the Panama Canal.

My first thought was about Suez, but the absence of Mediterranean Navies (only France an UK in Gibraltar) in the game forced me to move the scenario to Panama.

And it's a shame the poor detail of the map. Maybe creating the channel is too much, but many land areas are bad created (Cadiz Bay as an example); but in overall we can manage.

Dissapointing about the Suez, but there would probably be no way to include the Panama, as you've got to rise through a series of locks and go way above sea level, there would be no way/use to include the PC in the game.

They outsourced the geography.

The next level of resolution would have been 12 gigs on disk.

Cheers,

Ah... there we have it! :D

I wonder if it would be possible to have certain "interesting" areas have higher resolutions. Major urban areas... known theatres of conflict...

I tried making one on the Diaoyu Islands, which promptly fell flat when I realize they simply weren't plotted on the map at all.
