well now if you don't mind it being butt ugly--

thanks to Sansai's Pack 3d (which i finally got round to have-ing a go with) and the fact that my modelling program is compatible with it--(bowt time it was compatible with something!!!)

and a bit of jiggery pokery--

sadly contradicting BBW's post i haven't got the textures sorted out--
other than textures its a finished drivable Brit player sub--(replacing the type IIA)
i hate texturing models-it's like wall-papering a spiral staircase

/////////////
EDIT
OK Cheers Guys! :D (no idea what drugs hunter is on...don't want to know either:nope: )

there's a D/L link on my site ---will attempt a better version later on--
--follow link in my signature--

bit of a tip for those who may be confused..

create a new folder in the data/roster/british folder
called

Submarine

then go to the roster/german/submarine folder
and copy the
SSTypeIIA.cfg
into the new british/submarine folder--

open the mission editor select sub and you will now see that you can add your british sub as your human playable submarine and off you go---

Could be possible make this sub as a IA unit that fight against you if you find it during a patrol ???

Ya know, with a little bit of effort and thinking a full British make-voer and career would be possible. The game would suit it nicely....Sailing out of Gib and Malta, Hunting italian ships....:hmm:

Very nice CB. You skinned the crewmen too or is it just my eyes?

Lol, Cool. :D Who's up for making a 'We Dive at Dawn' Face pack?

Seriously, though, A Brit sub make over would be a wonderful thing. The scale is closer to U-boats than it would be with the big Ocean going US boats for a start: New interiors (lol, Don't even know if this is possible,) New Sound files for the Brit voices, New tops, new boats, a tweaked campaign from the British perspective, errr, other stuff...

Ok, maybe it is a lot of work but I know there are some class-A madmen on this site...

well if nothing else it does prove it could be done..only other new player drivable sub i know of is the Russian one ...with new subs anything is possible--my brit job was just a quick mess about job that only took a day to do (and 90% of that time was spent trying to get some sort of texture job done---gawd irritating as hell) the actual sub model file was done very quickly once i'd used me noggin a bit to get it to show in game the right way up and not invisible- lol there are no issues with it at all--everything works perfectly --no glitches

CB.. you never cease to amaze me. Great job. Great start!

I hope eventually that someone someday will manage to actually add a sub without subtracting another one.

I just cloned the sub to avoid deleting the Type IIA...
unfortunately the tower does not fit... but all in all a great target :D
Any idea about the tower?

I would love to sail this supposedly captured brit sub :D...and go in the tommies' backyard. You could sail surfaced....a flower corvette would come closer to salute you...and in the last moment ZBANG... "All ahead full...starboard rudder (even the telegraph would sound very scared) !!! Captain, torpedo in the water...Oh my god...they're germans !!!"...final moments of the corvette and it's crew :D

That looks really good! Nice work CB:up:

One question though, can it be used to replace a sub other then the IIA? I love the type IIs and would not want to overwrite them. Would rather it replaced one of the VIIs

Actually guess I have 2 questions, what are the capabilities of this sub? is it comparable to the IIA and that is why you replaced it? I ask because of the screens of it in New York.. I am assuming that was done with fuel limits off of a custom mission but am unsure.

I took your sub out for a spin, CB, and it was a real pleasure. I knocked up a small Italian convoy with a couple of escorts and enjoyed the alternative experience. I’m not a regular SH3 player ( or sub expert for that matter ) so excuse some questions :-

I found the Italian destroyers weren’t persistent. They located and made a bee line for me but did not attack Not sure how the doctrines work here, but are the Italians less aggressive or experienced ? maybe it was the date of the mission 1941 ? or maybe I should have specified something in the mission editor ?

Was the sub model based on any particular British class ?

There was no deck gun. Was this a model conversion thing ?

Hi Horsa---

the Italian and german destroyers dont have any sonar or hydrophones equiped--swop in the SNS file from a british destroyer--(found in data/sea/)

yup the sub is based on the type IIa so it hasn't got a deck gun--still just playing about with this idea at the moment--it's very difficult to mod for SH3 as an independant at the moment---as this thread illustrates--gets very weird--in fact if im going to get anything done at all --i'll have to stay out of here --it's allmost as bad as the great project mezzerwetzer atmosphere of Sh2 years--

We'd be talking about a large team I guess, aside from models, sounds and 'technical' stuff there is art work and all sorts to be considered. Also, how to get around the KM grid based patrols...I don't even know if that is hard coded or not. It would probably have to be done on the same sort of scale as the Pacific Aces Mod for SH2.

One of the major things is how you get the role of WW2 RN subs into the campaign - a lot of the time they were tasked to ASW work (getting quite a few kills as well,) but also they were used far more often that their German counterparts for special jobs - up to and including ferrying supplies into Malta at the height of the Axis offensive....

No point in asking for the SDK I suppose...:D

But, A workable and enjoyable conversion could be done....I'm sure of that. Ah, casting of from the tender at Holy Loch, looking out to another boat where they are filming 'We Dive at Dawn'...(anyone read 'Crash Dive'? thats one of the stories the author recounts.) Hunting in the Med...attacking U-boats as they put to sea...

Now that I think about it, I wonder whether or not it would be worth waiting for SH4 for such a mod. The Devs would surely have to counter some of the more obvoius problems themselves for that game.

well now you have a sub to play with:damn:

instead of modding everything in the game you use an external program to show british medals- british crew members names ranks patrol zones etc etc--then it's up to the individual to show a little bit of imagination...sadly you can't enhance peoples imaginations

me i just swopped the british flag for the german one and now every convoy i come across is carrying the german flag--LOL shock horror!!!! i guess in these days of super mods every-one has has a choice! no sense getting carried away--we're British don't you know ...

Yes, and a very nice sub it is too. At the same time I'm sorry if you think rubbishing your efforts somehow. I'm also sorry you think that having an idea about a possible mod shows my lack of imagination. I'll take it elsewhere...

no no Egan that wasn't what i meant--i was just thinking out loud ..it would be a shame for the idea to get lost because of the lack of some details...good place to start would perhaps be finding graphics for British WW2 sub medals and altering the crew members names in the crew cfgs...

it's just the thought of another super mod materialising with the slightly competitive atmosphere at the moment ..not sure i could face it..but smaller touches like crew name and medal graphics to give some room for the imagination to work would be nice:up:

http://www.ebort2.co.uk/files/submarine_group.jpg

i found these but no details sadly--which is which etc

the textures on the sub are still pretty ropy but i will suss this out eventually i hope and then it will improve dramatically--but meantime folks can at least ring out for pizza!

Once I had the sub mod by CB with different coning towers for u-type II and IXD2, but i Lost it when my PC totally crashed down. I found out, that these files aren`t longer available at CB´s site. I wrote him PM but he didn`t answer. I think he is no more activ in the forum. I really would love to get the japanese coning tower for IXD2 back.

Can anybody please be so kind to sent me the files.
Thank you very much and excuse my bad english.
