I had problems with the graphics as they were jerky and the mouse was dragging itself in slow motion, so I uninstalle SHIII and now when I tried to download 1.4 patch I get the following message:
This program cannot update the installed version of SHIII EMEA DVD v1.0 to 1.3 because of the following reason:
C:\program Files\ubisoft|SHIII\data\menu\en_help.txt:unknown version.

Any help would be much appreciated as without the patch I cannot download GW.:shifty:

the same thing happens to me occasionally. sometimes I keep uninstalling and reinstalling and it sometimes works. I made a backup copy of the data file to be on the safe side from now on.

Hello there KevinB,

you need to download this File:

silent_hunter_3_dvd_1.4b_emea.exe (http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/silenthunter3/silent_hunter_3_dvd_1.4b_emea.exe.html)

just scroll down on that page and choose a Puplic Server to download from
this will update your game to the latest version ( 1.4b ).

Now about your error message about the Unknown Version...

this will happen just in two cases I believe..

1- is that you're trying to apply the: silent_hunter_3_download_1.4b_us.exe, when you just have the European retail version of the game.-Solution is: get the File above. silent_hunter_3_dvd_1.4b_emea.exe, and Start applying it.

2- is that you're using the No-CD Patch for your game. which means that you've replaced your Original SH3 Files with the patched ones for playing without the DVD.-Solution is: Re-Install the game, and ALWAYS make back up of the files you're about to Change or Replace. and in your case the files you'll need to change for the SH3 v 1.0 are:

A- missionengine.dll
B- SH3.EXE
C- simdata.dll

those only 3 files are the NO-CD Patch for the SH3 V 1.0, so just get the original ones either by restoring them from Back up or just re-Install your game and get to them and save yourself a copy.

I hope that helped you out.

Peace...Out

:arrgh!: Hi there my submersible mates!

Referring to Kevin B's original question I thought I might clarify and elucidate a bit!

Kevin installed the GW SM onto SH lll with 1.4 patch installed. Everything worked fine except for the graphics slow down he has mentioned.

He decided that he couldn't put up with the jerky graphics so he uninstalled SH lll from the START MENU shortcut (not the Control Panel).

He is now trying to reinstall SH lll and the 1.4 patch without the GW SM. He is not having difficulty DOWNLOADING the 1.4 patch, he is having trouble INSTALLING it.

Hope this helps? All solutions welcome!

:hmm: Pip :hmm:

...so he uninstalled SH lll from the START MENU shortcut (not the Control Panel).
Doesn't matter. But what he must do is FULLY remove SH3 after uninstalling it. That means opening Windows Explorer and deleting the residual SilentHunterIII folder and all contents. Remember, the uninstall programme only uninstalls files installed by SH3 v1.0. Any new files installed by either the v1.4b patch or subsequent mods, and this may include some updated files, are left behind, thus causing conflicts when you next attempt to install SH3.

Once he has FULLY removed SH3, he can reinstall SH3, then the APPROPRIATE REGION patch (which is what the above posts are trying to explain - in other words it doesn't matter how easily he d/l the patch if it's not for HIS region DVD) and he should be right.

As an aside, for EMEA players, remember, most mods here are built under the US version, thus we (Australia uses the EMEA version as well) will always have problems if we don't FULLY remove SH3 before installing.

Alright you friendly submariners, problem solved after finding the culprit file hiding away.
Cheers!

Probably what he quoted JScones saying.

I had a similar problem with Rome: Toral War, and that time it didn`t help to remove the remaining files after the uninstall. There is probably some way to hunt for files in the registry, but I`m a n00b, so I installed it in another partition on the harddrive with instant success.

I'm afraid I'm pretty useless at computers, but what I did was do search in the programme files, ie: searched for ubisoft which I then deleted. After that I installed the 1.4 patch.
