Hi new here (longtime lurker). I just recently reinstalled sh3 after 8 months so I was unaware of the new supermods. I use Rub1.45, Rub harbor traffic1.47, chomu's interface, and sh3 commander 2.5. I am relativly new to sims and I am just awed by that set up. Due to my system the GW mod will probably not be an option:damn: :damn: (nonwithstanding the debates, opinions, etc between it and NYGM). From reading through this forum:up: I am interested in trying the NYGM mod. I know i will like the additions (kiel canal, tweaks, etc.) but I am not up to speed on 100% realisim:nope: Average 55 to 80% on Rub.
My question is: With limited knowledge and skill on manual tracking, intercepting, firing solutions, etc. is it worth getting the NYGM mod and can an average player enjoy the difficulty?
I know it is a matter of preference but any replies (from past experiance) to this noob would be appreciated. (apoligize in advance if this has already been covered)
sorry-- moderater can you move this to the "official NYGM thread":damn:

Yes the average player can enjoy it. NYGM 100% realism is NOT the same as 100% is in stock. Basically, everything was weighted so the bare minimum of choices will give you 100% - the intent is so that you get "credit" for all your tonnage. If you play at 90% in NYGM, you only get 90% of the award, which is in tonnage instead of the stock renown. Thus the easy 100%. Jump right in, you will enjoy it.

U-snafu,
NYGM is a big supporter of WaW (Wolves at War) and like WaW we understand that some poeple may not be ready for true 100%.
As such, NYGM have configred the option to still be 100% with these options turned off
Manual targeting
map contacts
external view
stabilize view
noise meter
weapons officer
I hope that this helps.

What's the thinking behind that? Just wondering, those seem to be essential to full realism, IMO.

started into it--IMO those options gives us begginners a chance to still use the mod and learn as we go. found dantenoc's thread on the manual hunt and looking foreward to make it to "100%" level.

So everyone can keep score with Tonnage, instead of %of Tonnage, regardless how how "unrealistic" their settings are. I guess I didn't explain well enough above...
Which brings the question to mind, how realistic is it to have the realism settings not reflect how realistic your playstyle is ? :hmm:

Funny, I was just pondering that same question myself. No answer, though; I'm still pondering.:hmm: :-?

NealNeal,
I fully agree and as default these are enabled.
There is another reason that we have this and that is the Tonnage part of out mod. As we know no other way of extracting a players tonnage for the various menus where 'renown' is we are using the renown as tonnage. The renown is calculated against the % so 100 renown on 80% realism is 80 renown, or 80 tons.

In the old system if a player on 0% realism sunk a 5000 ton ship, he would have got 5000 tons against his name, but 0 renown. So nothing has changed.
If we were to have the real tonnage values and not a renown value and we then set the realism options back to have a % hit when the player unticks these what has changed? Nothing as we no longer use play money.
At the end of the day it is only yourself that you cheat if when playing or publically comparing yourself against others, that you play with a secret advantage.

I got all that months ago... I think. And now I'm sitting here sctatching my head ? Was the intent not to keep tonnage and renown in sync ? Sorry I thought I was answering accurately and early (and often). :rotfl:

When one is too busy, one should not rush a reply as, well, you just might look just plain silly, as I did
