View Full Version : Grey Wolves bugs?
I was playing SH3 with the latest version of Gray Wolves. In the training scenario facing the convoy. I noticed the escorts were firing on each other! In another battle I saw PT boats burning and I didn't attack them.
Any clues???

It's not Grey Wolves. This is a SHIII bug that is well known.

Yup one of the worst bugs by far, You would think it would be a easy fix, no friendly fire?

I see that all the time. Not to mention escorts shooting at me when I'm on the other side of a merchant.
Boom, merchant sunk. One court-martialled Destroyer CO:roll:.
Are we saying that the consorts will always fire at each other.
Hopefully not
I am new to this game, and if it is the case than I would be extremely disapointed and surprised that a bug like this is still there witha community that big
Hopefully not?!?

I have only heard of this on the forums, in over 100 career patrols I have never seen allies fire at each other, so no it is not a frequent, or even common bug in normal gameplay.
As for burning PT boats (any small craft really) I believe this has to do with the boats getting damaged by foul weather. Yet another flaw but not a gamebreaker by any means.

Were the Escorts in the training mission neutral? It's well known that neutrals fire on each other. Not sure about Axis or Allied aligned ships firing on their own though. :hmm:

Also PT boats can see me 1000m away or more in extreme weather when I cant see further than 400m, I remember this from stock too. PT boats should be useless in bad weathers and should be docked back at port until the weather gets better then.

The game is set up to prevent you from firing at neutrals or friendlies. If you do, you are immediately considered an enemy for the next 24 hours. Unfortunately that works for the other side too: if a British (or any other) ship accidentally hits one of his own, or a neutral, he suddenly becomes an enemy and they all start shooting at him.
Too bad, but that's the way it is.

I have just reinstalled SH III & loaded in GW. It took me a couple of attampts, but it is working. In passing I should point out that in the opening image of the U-boat lunging out of the water, the anchor and hawse pipe are shown on the Port side of the bow. They should be on the Starboard side!
I digress. Since I have reloaded the game, I need to do the Naval Academy thing (unless anyone knows of a shortcut). I have no problem with that, but GW has made the gun rounds more realistic in their effect and this is making it difficult to sink the required number of ships with the ammunition available.
I did 2 runs through it last night and ran out of ammo with 2 sunk and 2 others looking a bit second hand. I would not have had more than 6 misses on each occassion. I must confess that I'm a dab hand with guns, I used to be a tank gunnery instructor in the Army and I rarely miss. However, to be successful in this exercise one needs to sink at least 4 ships and this seems to be more than a little difficult.
Would I be better off reloading the basic SH III, get the qualification, again, and then add GW? I would be interested if anyone has discovered a solution.

Ahh, yes, I remember now. Yes, even applies if a British ship "accidentally" hits another British ship.
I remember someone posting a "WTH :o" image quite a while ago! Quite humourous!

I had that "convoy shooting itself up" thing once, too. Two warships and a merchant gunning each others down.

Too bad, but that's the way it is.I remember this cute little exploit in TIE Fighter. It had the same system: "If ya shoot aht me, I kill ya:stare:!".
So whenever this duo of enemy corvettes entered the battle in formation, I'd fly between them so they accidentally hit each others firing at me. Then...

I always liked the message you got in European Air War: "Shooting at friendly! Check Fire! Check Fire!"
