View Full Version : TGW 1.1a --- WOW!!!!!

I picked up SH3 when it first came out... then after the 1.2 patch fiasco, I uninstalled it. I really liked the game, but there were too many issues with it for me to deal with. I re-installed it a few days ago, applied the 1.4b patch and started playing it again.

Then I saw posts talking about the TGW1.1a supermod. I looked at the home page and decided it was for me. I just have to say I am truely blown away!!!!!! This mod brings out all the best in SH3!!!! After playing the plain vanilla version of SH3, this really did "blow my socks off" as the web site had stated.

I just want to thank all of the modders out there who continually work on mods to bring SH3 into excellence. I would also like to thank the folks at The Grey Wolves for putting this all together, in a nice pakage that fits on 1 CD. It was VERY much worth the download time!!!!

I play SH3 at about 62%-65% reality, so I'm not a hard-core realist, but not an arcade player either. This supermod fits right in with my style of play!!!! The only thing I miss is the the color coding of targets :). I guess I'm going to learn how to ID those ships now!!!!

Oh and by the way THE KIEL CANAL ROCKS!!!!!!

A GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!!!!

Madrigal61,
Try a dual install with NYGM Tonnage mod v 2.1, along with JSGME and SH3CMDR, and you really will be impressed. I use both and find them both grand. Do a forum search for JScones on how to do do the dual install. JScones has all the information you need

I forgot to add; install and use both SH3Weather and SH3 Generator. They are external programs that add a great deal.

irish1958 -
I am using SH3 commander... I actually started using that just before I got the TGW mod. I really like it. I also have read about the Weather mod, but I can't seem to find it. This mod really interests me because I hate being in a hurricane for two weeks... As far as the NYGM mod, how much more realism is added? is it compatible with TGW? Full realism is not my bag in subsims... So I am a little leary about adding realism mods. One of the deciding factors for TGW was that fact that it doesn't force a whole lot of realism on the player unless they want it... same with SH3 commander... both are wonderful additions.

So if anyone could point me to where the weather mod is, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks...

Never mind... I found the link to SH3Weather generator in another link...

Thanks...

NYGM tonnage mod has more realism. There is a another program called SH3 Generator which works outside of SHIII to give you a map with locations of the ships and convoys, and an extensive captain's log. I would suggest you use this also.

You may not believe this, but I spent the last of my credit card availablity to get a new computer specifically to be able to run SH3 TGW, lol. Installed SH3, installed TGW and fired it up. Guess what - it's terrible! Not the Mod, the NVidia GeForce 6100 display that is in the new machine. Lousy, lousy graphics. Jagged edges to everything, even with antialiasing up as high as it'll go (which then causes such jerky frame-rates that it must be updating at about 4 fps!) and disappearing textures on the crew (they look like ghosts until they get to the edge of the screen - the uniforms then appear). LOVE the TGW Mod though - what a superb job they've done! You guys cannot receive enough praise for your dedication, skill and (let's face it) generosity. If an equivilent to TGW were available for my Flight Sim I would have expected to have paid maybe $19.99 - and would have gladly done so. So - as soon as my balance on the card is back in the black, I'll be making that donation. Thank you to all who had a hand in TGW development. :D Now all I have to do is get my Radeon 9600XT to run in place of that crappy NVidia, lol. (Oh. Did anybody else notice that although the Attack Scope magnification is now 10x, the frame of the eyepiece still says x6? LOL)

I am happy to give credit to where credit is due!!! All of the work that went into this has turned the game from good to excellent. I work in the software field, and I know it's not easy pulling together bits and pieces to make one whole package. I am just amazed at all the mods out there. I wish I had the time to contribute something back to this excellent community. As it is, I barely have time for a couple of hours to spend on SH3...

After managing to play more on the weekend, I am stunned even more by the subtle (and not so subtle) changes to the game.

I followed irish1958's suggestion and run TGW1.1a with SH3 commander, SH3 Weather, and SH3 Generator... These four things put SH3 into my all-time favorite catagory.

Again, thanks to all of you for your dedication and hard work. It is much appreciated

I totally agree, the modding for this game is just sick. I have spent countless og frustating hours with semi-crappy and semi-playable mods for Rome: Total War, but the amount of work and professionalism you guys put into your modding ... simply awesome.

Kudos!

Have you tried Rome total realism 6.3? It's very stable and complete!

As for the GW mod, yeah It's definitely improved the game 100%. Mod work never stops either... keep checking the mod forums for new developments.

just a quastion

i get radio messeges like this:

convoy sighted. inbound. moderatly escorted.
BE 3366.

what does BE 3366 mean ??
i know its a grid cordinate (grid BE) but there is no 3366 ?
am i missing something ?

madrigal61

I think that those kind of radio mesages are genereated for the "immersion" factor. I was confused at first by these messages.... If there was a "real" update... and you have auto-updates turned on, the contact will show up on your map.

By the way... is there any way to turn the contact colors back on in the nav map?
Right now they are black, which is "unidentified". However, when I do get to a target, and I ID it through the periscope as "hostile", the marker on the map is still black, not red. Also in port, all contacts are black, even though my bridge crew is out.

It does add to the realism out there on the high seas.... but in port?
Not a complaint, just an observation....

EDIT#1 --- While I'm logged in... I also wanted to compliment the team on their selection of gramaphone music tracks... Not only are there a lot of them, but I really like them... I was really taken back when the track where the Germans start singing "It's A Long Way To Tipperary". WOW, A mental image of the DAS BOOT scene where they play that song and the whole crew starts singing it..."
GREAT IMMERSION guys!!!...

The more I play this mod, the more respect I have for you all!!!!!! I can't wait to find more hidden gems...!!!! I'm only in November of '39.... a long way to go

EDIT#2a --- Oh yea... and this post:

mentioned the extra maps that were added to the F5 screen...
This post shows you where the maps are:

Oh and try hitting the F1 key... They've put some very handy data there as well!!!!!!

The quadrants are subdivided. BE33 is the grid, and it is further divided into sub-grids. The game doesn't show the sub-grids, just the main grid.

I know there is a link-I've actually downloaded it and use it to determine precisely where I am. Unfortunately I can't find it again. Sorry.

guys, atm all I have installed is GW 1.1a + + SH3 commander + vanilla SH3. Could you let me know what other mods I should add and where I can get it from ie.

SH3 Weather
SH3 Generator

and what exactly they do.

Cheers

ps. quick question - is RuB incorporated into GW?

Boris
06-27-06, 11:36 PM
SH3 Gen is a great tool that adds operational information and intelligence to your kaptains log and the nav map...
get it here: http://www.global-explorer.de/

As for other mods... whatever strikes your fancy, but try not to use any mods that will change the way the game works (ie. campaign files etc.), and stick to graphics tweaks.

For example, I'm using some of fubars sub and crew skins, a few of my own ship skins, a bunch of new ships by AG124, Dowly's smoke mod and Slideout Anzeigen.

That is absolutely the lowest low end you can possibly get near today in a new machine. Why buy a new computer then?

Well for starters many people cant afford the $$$$ to get the top of the line systems like some here can...either that or don't have mommy and daddy to buy it for them like others. So they upgrade the best they can with the money they have.Take me for example...it would take me 8-9 months just to get $400.00 for a few new parts.Being on a fixed monthly income of $500.00..this amount does not go very far after paying bills and buying the bare neccesities.Usually end up with $20-$30 left and that has to last for the rest of the month paying for anyting else that comes up that I need.

I am surprised people cant think of that fact. They seem to think that money just grows out of people ears and can be picked at will.Must be nice having parents who will buy that stuff for them or have the kind of money to spend the $900.00 or more on a top line system.

LOL, CWorth I feel your pain bud. I built GW 1.0 using an Nvidia Geforce FX5700LE... Only two months ago I was able to upgrade my system a bit... Its taken me two years to get it the way I want it.... one piece at a time.

Keeping the lights on always comes first... mostly tweaking my PC comes dead last.

Now as a result... I almost have enough pieces to build a second machine... just need a good mobo, tower, and monitor... maybe in a few months... :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

Now... when I win the lottery (yeah right!) I will hire some plumbers and carpenters to make my little workshop room into a conning tower.

Sailor Steve
06-28-06, 10:48 AM
I'll take some of that lottery action. I'm stuck in a low paying job plus a high-rent apartment. It didn't start that way; the rent was low and I had a better job when I moved in. Now I don't have enough after the rent to do much of anything, including save enough for the deposit on a cheaper apartment.

Too bad we don't live in the same town, CW, or I could rent a room from you and solve both our problems.

I can relate to fixed income... I was laid off for 8 months... I was lucky and got another job just before Christmas, so my kids didn't have to suffer too much. However, having little or no money sure puts things in perspective....

My problem is, how do I install it? Should I install it in the mods folder, as I wish to add a couple mods to it or should I just run the setup and let it do it's stuff.

Just run the set up Rob
Make your choices carefully in the options
DONT choose the enhanced seafloor if your system is not the highest - any other option can be undone with a reinstall straight over the top but not the seafloor which needs to be changed manually

Make sure you add the fatigue fix on page 1 of the GW sticky

I hate fatigue models, I deactuvated it in the vanilla SH3 by changing the cfg file (I think) cause I can't be bothered in changing crew members, that's not why I play the game, having to take the time to change crew because of fatigaue IS STUPID.

The only choice I am making from the initial options is to remove the friendly mines cause I don't want to run into them.

Yup, there were three lines wrong in the default basic.cfg that shipped with the mod, so it's easier to just release a new basic.cfg you can copy like you did, than fish through the whole file looking for the lines to edit. :)
