It would be very appriciated.

That was on the shipbuilding thread. Cdre Gibs has modeled an orca, but I don't think it's ready yet.

Close, it was called the Biologicals Mod, and I'm the 1 doing it. But atm sadly its on the back burner. I have a few other things I need to get done ( requests from other ppl ) that are taking up all my time. It will be finished 1 day, I just cant say when atm. Sorry!

Biologicals Mod content so far:
Orca's (male & Female)
Great White Pointer
School of Tuna

Hopefully to be added:
Blue Whale
Humback Whale
Deep Sea Turtle
Kelp

Other ideas welcome.

-Mola
-Blue Sharks
-Miscellaneous tropical fish
-Coral (maybe heavily-modded and shrunken icebergs)

How about several non-living nautical objects? Stuff like mooring buoys, channel markers, and oil derricks?

Whatever you have time to do and is feasible would really be appreciated.

All possible, the coral more so, I have been thinking about that 1.

I have been investigating Channel Makers and I may have a working unit. I can expand that to mooring boys no probs. As to Oil Derricks I'm not to sure but let me think about that 1.

Along the line of underwater things is it possible to have sea mounts or crevice's' to hide behind in a depthcharge attack, not in deep water of course.Or is this hard coded into the program:hmm:

That would require a redo of the sea floor, It be possible with the new terrain tool, but I think GPU latency would be a killer if the whole sea floor was redone to be correct (I suspect you could easily quadruple the polys of the sea floor doing this). So the question then becomes, just where do you draw the line. Is it worth doing the sea floor below a certain depth, because you never going to see it. Or for that matter is any1 going to see any of it. After all, you would have to dive down pretty deep in some places. Where the sea floor is shallow enough to dive down to see the changes, would there be any because the sea floor is so shallow I'd suspect those sort of features would not be present.
Now having said all that, at the end of all the continental shelfs you do get the odd mount stinking up, but they are very low detail. Again I suspect its a GPU related issue. So yes there are sea mounts (of a sort). No I dont think its worth the effort for so little gain to redo the sea floor in part or whole, for what in truth, would have very little impact on the game. Am I happy about this, no. But as I said, you have to draw a line somewhere.

Sorry.

Sea floor is probably not worth it actually. Thanks for all your work Gibs.

Please continue with this wonderful mod :D! Seafloor modeling is not worth it, but I would love to see the kelp and different marine life.

Thx for taking an interest.
Since my last post no change has taken place. The reason will become obvious when TGWX is released. I've been a tad busy helping out TGWX. The other is a bloody annoying trait I have with my PC. For some time now Pack3D has refused to work correctly and I cant get any of my models into SH3. I suspect its a Java issue of some kind but how to fix it I have no idea. I have reinstalled Java Run-time more than a few times now to no avail. So until thats also sorted its on hold indefinately, along with quite a few other things.

As soon as I can get my new PC up an running the VTC Workshop will be back in full swing. And with the new beast I should be able to get all the models done very quickly. My old PIII 1.2Ghz PC is well due for retirement. :)

Other ideas welcome.Sexy nudist swimmers:arrgh!:.

Seriously, though, what about packing several dolphins into one unit?

Sharks would be interesting to have, too.

Oh, and can you add "propeller sounds" to the dolphins and whales so that we can hear them on our hydrophones. Would be nice to hear whales call to each others while hunting for merchants:).

Semi-off-topic:
Land-life would be nice, too, actually. A deer or two at the beach, some new birds, and so on.

In general, Silent Hunter III lacks eye-candy, as I've stated earlier. Wreck versions of more ships than small merchants, tugs towing things (model both the towed ship and the tug as one vessel), fishing boats with nets in the water, a hospital ship with climbing nets over its sides and life-boats around it (model all that as one vessel), and so on. And yes, mechanical things like oil derricks, markers, and so on would be great, too.

Have you ever tried gunnery target practice on a seagull or dolphin ? Those buggers are impossible to hit.

..Kidding, I'd never dream of attempting such a thing of course.

I love the idea of populating the oceans with a bit more life. I just saw my first dolphins yesterday on my 15th patrol. Orcas and other cetaceans would be great. Sharks too of course, they always give sailors the willies. We'd have to keep them as rare sightings though, to make it a bit more special.

I remember the first time I saw a dolphin. I was like "what the Heck is that?!". I didn't see the dolphin, just the trail its fin left, and it took me a few seconds to realize what I was looking at:p.

As most ppl may not be aware, I'm not realy into doing merchant ship models. I prefer doing warships and planes. But I also like doing marine life forms - Biologicals. However I must confess I too would luv to see a more active world. I'm not talking just about ships here or even Biologicals, but more man made items as well. Channel makers and Nav beacons are a must in my view as well as LAND units. I know we dont see much of the land except for when we put to sea, but heres the thing, why is there no LIFE in the city's/towns we depart from. For that matter, where are the damn roads!!!

I would luv 1 day to be able to do a better city/town scape, with roads, cars an trucks, railroad with locos an frieght wagons coming out onto the docks. Now I must admit all of these wont be able to move, but at least it would give the impression of LIFE. I agree with our poster above, small eye candy bits can go a long way. To that end I will endevour to add as much to the SH3 World Alive Program as I can. This will include things like the fishing boat with nets (already done as a model in Max) to Depot ships with flotilla's attached, to even things like small docks/jettys with either seaplanes or Torpedo boats tied off. I'd also like to see better citys encompassing a whole harbour inlet and of course more wreaks and navigational hazards. Better bunkers and shore defence systems where needed. Land based RD units (Huff Duff) or indeed a real Airbase with strip, hangers and Control Tower with Airfield AAA defence networks. Complete Naval Rosters for all nations as well as Merchants, and to expand on the nations in game.

Will this bring any great benifits to you and your sub at sea, in truth - some, but its about more than just you and your sub, since thats what we have already. The aim here is to immerse 1 into the historical setting more and make the SH3 world ALIVE.
And that ppl is the mission objective of the SH3 World Alive Program by VTC.
