View Full Version : just a little difficulty tweak...for casual players
most grievous apologies if this has been covered in detail allready BUT--
as most folks enjoy the external view as we sail along (go on...)
but find the temptation to use the F12 glance button whilst submerged to track enemy ships DD's etc just a little bit over whelming at times--
you can go into the data/cfg folder and edit the commands_en.cfg
to remove the F12 shortcut
(the only time it's actually any use is when used as a unlimited depth periscope any way--)

just comment out the entry for F12 or i suppose just changing it to this would be neater

this means that the ship camera still works but the F12 view is not available--
can watch the sub plow thru the seas without the temptation to use the uber scope whilst under DC attack--i admit it i use it because it's there--
next ship is no where near as use-full if under attack because you may have to flip thru half a dozen ships to see the one that's attacking you--
and even then it's no-where near as much help as a direct view from the surface directly above the sub which is what F12 gives you etc--
i like it--
good hike in difficulty against the DD's without going the whole hog and disabling external view altogether--

I think that is a good option CB.
I must admit that I am also one of those whom temptation gets the better off at times.
Most times I leave external view off unless testing but come to think of it, it would be nice to have the close cam on and external off.
I will try it soon

This is an excellent mod.
Would you allow its use in NYGM?

I don't mind go ahead--everythings for every-body in here ..
your welcome-DTB.. don't mention it---not that many "casual" players round here it seems.....ahen cough cough splutter--
"me....? use the external view???? the outrage ...the horror of it...well just a litle peek every now and then..." lol
Who me? Good find CB. :D
I usually play 100%. But I'm one of those who are sucker for nice pics.

Yes i already did this another poster told me how in the SH3 thread, can't remeber who but it could of been you. Only problem is i :damn: found out that by using the side menu bar on the left - the bottm icon on that bar also gives you the F12 view :damn: :damn:
How do i get rid of the side menu bar :dead:
there's a tweak to get rid of the side menu bar some where --i'm using it my self--can't remember exactly how it went tho---see what i mean about temptation tho--if it's there you start using it--
had to be that this no F12 edit had been thought of before--it's such a good 'un--and not a complicated nor hidden and dangerous job either--so yup some -one will have done it before--(hence my opening gambit:yep: )
the good ones are worth repeating tho--
the F12 view allways gave me a head-ache any way--really annoying--
hit F12 and your there for five minutes panning about like a mad thing pushing the view here and there--before you know where you are your spending half the game in F12--very irritating view from start to finish--
so it's much more fun to play with-out it nagging at you all the time--:D
quite regardless of the realism malarky

Or I have not understood something?..?...?
But if you clean Key Description, key F12 all the same will work in game.
Since it is defined by the code 0x7b, 0x7b + CTRL and 0x7b + Shift.

Call me a heretic but I absolutely refuse to do away with my External view.:yep:
I enjoy taking a gander at the big picture once in a while way too much to lose it.

Why F12 is not available?
You removed description only.
