I found out how to do this quite by accident a long time ago, and i said i'd do it again and take screenshots. Well.. MANY months later i finally got around to it.


Go to your basic.cfg file, pick a year you want to experiment in (i used VIIB, 1940), and in the supercharger entry, instead of 1260, or 1261, type in 1262.

1262 is the ID number for a snorkel, 1260 and 1261 being the acutal superchargers.

Try it, its fun.

The boat skips along the water like skipping a stone accross a pond after a certain speed. If you hit/skip off of the water at just the right angle and speed you'll be flying for like 30 to 100 KM before you spashdown :D Hit it wrong and you'll be going very deep, very fast, kinda of like that one picture i got up there.

Sub' behaves really weird, and you really dont even need to engage the engine in any speed. Just sit there and wait. The boat will gradually (and exponentially) pick up speed without putting any commands to the engine at all.

That was the "happy time" convoy mission. No warships nearby, unless you count all the armed merchants taking pot shots at me zipping by at 1000 KPH. A couple of them hit each other, i wish i had got some screenshots of that.

edit: damn i should ahve tried to fire a torpedo while 10 meters above the water, that would have looked cool if it worked. :D

Seriously, if you change the "speed boost" for your BushG in the cfg, you can get some screaming speed.

Oh, and still maintain *some* kind of controll, lol

I set at boost 2.25- max speed in a VIIC/3 is 56 kts in clear/no wind.

Destroyers? I just run away from em, heehee. Chase down Elcos like rabbits.


Oh- note well; torps run at 30 knots. Slow down when firing. Learned that one the hard way.

just think that when you alter the max speed of the sub and you intend to use it for a longer time you need to alter also the engine specification and the speed setings in the cfg. so that when you set to slow ahead you'r realy are on slow like 3 - 4 kts. It's no fun when slow is 10 kts.

Patboot how far you can go at 53 kts ?? or have you set the fuel to unlimited ?

Heh- forgot aboot that- yes, you should set "unlimited fuel"; You'll be gulping it down faster than an F-15 at afterburn.

N.B- changing the engine telegraph setting will also alter the electric motor speeds-

Yes it does, but if you alter the engine specs. in the sim file then you can extend the range for both electric and Diesel so that in the end you have a range and speed which would correspond to a modern sub LOL.

Did you ever try to run with 25kts submerged ? it's like a rollercoaster on PD you go up and down in rough seas in a range of 20 m. so it's rather useless but on the other hand you have to make these changes so all speed setings on the telegraph do work for both drives.

Mightn't it be an idea to mod the game so that the tubes fire bombs instead of torpedoes? I mean, since you're up there...

And yes, I'll try super-charging my IIA. Let's see if I can't bomb a few cruisers:p.
