View Full Version : Mine fields, the English channel and IuB 1.03

Have recently upgraded from IuB 1.02 to 1.03. Previously, I had been able to traverse the English channel without too many major problems, but with 1.03 I keep getting unknown damage when travelling underwater.

I'm quite sure I wasn't running aground - so is it safe to assume that i'm bumping into mines just past the eastern mouth of the channel?

If this is the case are there maps available to counter this situation? I've had a bit of a dig around and have only been able to find maps showing mines around the Germans bases.

Apologies if this query has been answered in another post. I'm not having much joy with the search function as it is.

You could load the SH3 Mission editor and open the Campaign_SCR.mis. You'll see all the minefields in the channel. Or if you don't want to know exactly where they are then use SH3Gen.

Stupid question - what is SH3Gen and where can I find it?

I loaded campaign_SCR.mis through the editor but was unable to see any indication of where mines might be. Having never opened the editor before, it's entirely possible I just wasn't looking in the right spot.

Just open the campaign_SCR.mis and zoom in on the Channel. Here's what I found while looking at Loch Ewe;

You can see the minefields and subnets.

SH3Gen is available at http://www.global-explorer.de/. This will show the approximate location of some minefields, but not their exact postion or size.

Like I already said, load the SH3 Mission Editor then open the campaign_scr. mis in the editor :)

Used the editor to open campaign_SCR.mis and zoomed in on Lock Ewe - all I see is the naval base. None of the mine information. I also tried going into "veiw" and selecting "show minefield distribution".

Are there any options that I have perhaps not selected correctly?

Here's my veiw of the same picture:

Are you using one of the supermods or Harbour Traffic mod, or even the 1.4b patch? Your view looks like the stock game.

Hmmm, I don't understand that

I've never used IuB, is it supposed to have minefileds? I'm guessing they're not showing up because there aren't any?

Just using IuB 1.03, no other mods. Although I believe the harbour traffic mod is part of IuB?

I'm sure there are mines about with this mod, i've bumped into them before coming out of Willemshaven and more recently (as noted above) in the English channel.

The Harbour Traffic mod comes with options: Minefields & Subnets / no Minefields or Subnets.

RUB came with HT installed, and included an extra SCR for the 'no' version.

IUB incorporates much of RUB, but with the focus more on gameplay than realism. I don't know if IUB offered the 'yes/no' minefield options or not. From the look of the Loch Ewe picture, I'd say not, but never having used IUB I could easily be wrong.

Those "no" versions only removed minefields/subnets from friendly harbours.

Okay, that leaves that option out, then.

Sorry.

Can you see those ones using the Mission editor? I'm using the standalone HT mod and, as you saw from my pic, it most definitely adds minefields to Loch Ewe.

No, unfortunately it doesn't seem to show mines in any place at all.

As a work-around I might have to up water visibilty and scout them out that way, until I can find the right information.

I'm no Sh3 expert but I think that if they don't exist in your campaign_SCR.mis then they won't be in the game. That doesn't explain why you've seen them before though

Maybe a stupid question, but are you getting harbour traffic? Not only was Loch Ewe empty of mines in your pic, it was also empty of ships.

Yep, plenty of harbour traffic, when i'm leaving port.

I haven't actually seen any mines but I can only assume that's what they were. When using IuB 1.02 I bumped into them leaving Willemhaven until I realised where to steer clear of.

As for the English channel, likewise I can only assume they were mines that I hit. I had a good 20 meteres of water under me so I couldn't have been hitting the bottom.
