View Full Version : Will we get clear water back?

Question is pretty obvious. I'm wondering if we're ever going to get the clear water back into DW like we had in SC. It'd be awesome for the aerial units in multiplayer, it'd really force subbies to stay down where they belong instead of trying to creep around on the surface in daylight.
Any way this can be changed for a future patch or modded?

How do you know you could see submerged subs from a airplane in Sub Command? :hmm:

I would say this is a good idea if you can see subs at shallow depths only. The deeper you go, the harder it should be to detect subs underwater visually.

The depths to which you could see down in Sub Command were a bit extreme. But, to get transparent water back, with variable clarity based on depth, sea state, and general murkiness, would be a huge improvement over the "pretty," solid blue crap we've got now.

I would second that, because it would make the cam actually useful opposed to only confirm your surface contacts, especially if the surface is no definite barrier for heat anymore.
Don't believe me ... try the following ... fly in a P-3 and then have a sub surface and dive, you will notice that you can only see the stuff in IR that is above the surface and everything below is plain not there. Tho you are able to see Shallow Active Countermeasures (this had me head scratching once).
the transparency of the sea could drastly change from place to place and time to time !
The same day, with a big sun, light wind and cool sea, you could detect something at 20 meters (talking about sea I know ...) and some minutes later, because you meet with a squall, with a big black cloud and heavy rain, and foam forming, you couldn't see what is under 2 meters ...
this unfortunatly couldn't be reproduce with DW
You have it or you don't have it
I personnally don't really want to change the actual setting because I think it reflect 80% of the time the real thing, except at tropical seas.
And as mentionned, transparency option exist, but doesn't work actually.

That picture shows why the British painted their subs blue for the Med in WWII, and why they're doing the same now.

The Israeli's also paint their Dolphin subs green, I remember someone here asking why, that's exactly why. Makes sense, SSN = blue, SSK = green. Just don't take them out of their element... :P

 Would be really comforting to think we Brits did it like that - the reality is likely to be utilisation of
surplus MOW WW1 paint stocks ! ;)
Heck a discussion on water colour - WOW. It must be time for the Summer recess !! How full on !! :rotfl:
