ah, that's right! I was just looking at a website with russian submarines of WW2 and seeing this conning tower with very soviet look i thought i've seen it somewhere before - but wasn't sure if it was the website or some thread.. :)

Looking forward to it btw. lights looking nice too. :)

So is this some new mod comming out?? We get an option to become russian submariners attacking german uboots and merchants??

enemy ships have lights i was wondering if subs of all types can have some sort of lights (i.e).to check out enemy targets up at close range

I doubt, i think you just can attack allied shipping as a soviet boat. A renegade?

it's very nice to simply have an alternative boat to use..do we need both downloads--the conning tower and the type 9_bis files? it certainly looks well done!!

it looks suffienciently different from the german stockers to be usable for british italian free french/vichy even Japanese stuff (no slight on the original intentions here ) with a bit of imagination on the part of the player that is..

I offer various variants of realization of submarine signal lights:
- Back light (red) - one variant
- Lights on turm - the second variant.

Green to starboard is fine but red is the light for port. A stern light should be white. International Rules of the Road at Sea.

That sub only needs a small star on the conning tower. :yep:

This is the type I think that sunk the Gustloff.

(not C, but S type). C type would be in russian letters.

You should DL only an IX-bis file.
But this beta-version has many problems.

Cheers

now this is an awesome looking WW2 boat! those Uboats look decidedl boring compared to soviet boats, already back then they had that cool conning tower seen later on more modern boats.

Thisis an awesome resource btw, as I saw some blueprints scanned from exact same ones as I had when I was a kid! Totally nostalgic seeing those drawings again after so many years! Even more I used to own those magazines, with beautiful drawings and I used read those stories as a kid totally into it. Glad someone got this thing online.

Hi, All.
Conclusions on my experiment Navigating and Signal Light.
The best object for creation of light is Light_House_flare (dummy-object).
It is necessary to change its Color, Size and OverLife only.
Light can be placed in any place of any object above water.
It is possible to change the size, color, brightness of a luminescence,
a cycle of a luminescence.
It is possible to make blinking light. Light is reflected in water.
Unique lack as well as at all light sources in game:
it is visible through the majority of models having not a specific material.
Moders forward!

Anvart :ping:

I have used that before but decided it is not very suitable because the light shines/can be seen through the solid objects. Therefore, I have settled for a solution like here http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=49308

Type941
05-22-06, 04:40 PM
i think serg's solution is more useful in the game. Those lights shining through the ship really do spoil it. Unfortunately... :shifty:

Type941
05-23-06, 02:52 PM
so did the uboats run with it at night? I thought when at night they made sure they weren't visible... same for the warships.. all tried to keep the lights down.

Type941
05-23-06, 04:22 PM
i thought at night they wanted to keep it all down, covered, to be safe from uboats.

oh comon!!! that window doesn't deserve a place on this sub. :( Like from babushka domik or something.

Make the passenger liner light up, something along the lines of this pic (which I edited of course, but you can imagine my point on that looking cool in SH3 at night ;))

If someone very much is not pleasant light visibility through objects,
this light problem can be solved having applied type HaloDK_21 object
from Harbor_kit.dat.

Good finding, Anvart.

WOW that looks really cool:o

Now the moan lol would they be lit up at night ???
Hospital ships and neutral yes  but liners too ?

Still must admit would love to come across that at night would look sweet thru the scope:rock:

Is there a way of just adding them to neutrals? hosp ships or would that be too awkward
Presumably each ship with lights would have to be a new variant on the ships we have so would it not be possible to have the new ships named slight different to the original so they alone could be given to neutrals and the ships we have for the neutrals now removed?
lol I am probably miles off tack

Simply OutStanding, Well Done Anvart, Well done indeed.

Your quite correct bigboywooly. This will need to be done to CLONED ships that are currently in all the Neutral Country's roster files. ALL of them will need to be give a different name. Thats a big job. Also it will allow for the removal of all weapons OFF the neutral ships, since by rights they wouldn't have any (the merchants I'm talking about here).

Anvart, since you have done nearly 80% of the lights that would be shown at night, have you had any thoughts to add in the :

Masthead all round white light
Port Red light
Starboard Green Light
Stern 270° White Light

as well. I know you had some of them on the sub, but the above would be the perfect candidate. And just for the hell of it, festoon coloured light off the anttenna cable runs between the masts and mast to hull and/or Deck lights ( these are on the mast spreaders facing down onto the deck). After all if ya gonna do it, go for the full hog. :)

We could create a class of lighted ships for paukenshlag, that would be awesome. Great job.

Its rare I comment on a topic like this but I have to say I would very much love to see this in an SH3 mod. I think the occasional neutral steaming into view with all ships lights on, as was required to highlight neutrality, would certainly lighten the bordom of those long mid atlantic patrols.

So i've now added it to my official wish list (which is quite cool because I have a very small wish list)

Anvart, looking good.
Just a technical bit. The Mast head Light should be on the highest point amidship of the ship and above or behind the Port and Starboard lights. So it really should be on the other mast. Also they have a coverage bearing and/or field of view. Please find attached pic's of the correct nav bearing ° marks below.

http://www.git.com.au/~voyager_tek/marine_light_rose.jpg

http://www.git.com.au/~voyager_tek/marine_over_25m.jpg

Umm also just on an eye candy note, the Port and Starboard lights may be just a tad to bright, reduce them by say 15-20%, but thats just me.

PS: Ohh yeah, forgot, the Port and Starboard lights are usualy on the widest part of the hull/superstructure. Just thought you'd like to know. ;)

Are somone able to add ligths on neutral ships.

front = white
back = white
port = red
stbd = green

or only windows on board.

It would be a grear help to aknowledege them on the high seas.

That looks really stunning, Anvart

To carry Cdre Gibs' point about mast lights slightly further :) :-

I believe that ships over 150 feet in length had 2 masthead lights, one on the foremast, lower down than one on the mainmast, both with the same arc of visiblity as stated in Cdre Gibs' posting.

Keep up the good work:up:

A ship can have more than 1 masthead light, but it MUST have at least the 1.

I believe that ships over 150 feet in length had 2 masthead lights, one on the foremast, lower down than one on the mainmast, both with the same arc of visiblity as stated in Cdre Gibs' posting.

The second lower forward light is also sometimes referd to as the anchor light. Also if a ship had more than 1 mast, it could have a masthead light on all masts. But atm I'm just helping Anvart get the basic's down pat.
The rest is up to Anvart and wheather he wants to do them all. But I do agree it would be damn cool to get as many as is practical onto all the ships that need them.

I agree and will take cruising the game at tc1 to a different level if you know you have a chance to see a beacon in the night which is a neutral ship rather than blasting everywhere at 256 and ignoring neutrals
Very cool

Make all the Nav Lights 25-50% smaller and and dull the Starboard an Port a tad if possible (15-25%) and I'd call them done !

Well done so far.

Very nice:up:
How difficult would it be to have a searchlight shine on the flag? I was reading that many neutrals either had the national colors painted on the hull and illuminated or had a spotlight on the flag at the mast. Can anyone confirm this?:hmm:

Highbury
06-13-06, 08:30 PM
Well I can confirm that neutrals certainly painted their country's flag on the hull in several instances. Someone was even doing some skins to represent this, no idea how the project went. I would imagine it would be difficult for countries that start neutral then become enemy.

As for keeping the spotlight focused on the flag in game, no idea. Would be a nice touch for the neutrals though.

It is Iambecomelife that painted the flags on the side for his merchant ships mod he is working on.The problem is with the repeating textures the game uses not sure how it will work out for all ships.I know 1 ship he did that it turned out pretty well.
