EDIT: Serg's instructions qouted below so they don't get lost:
-Make a copy of the NBB_Revenge folder in the data\Sea directory
- Rename this copy of the folder to say NBB_Arkhangelsk and replace sequence NBB_Revenge with NBB_Arkhangelsk for every file in the folder
- Replace BBRevenge in the NBB_Arkhangelsk.cfg file with BBArkhangelsk
- Open Pack3D, go to the NBB_Arkhangelsk folder, load NBB_Arkhangelsk.dat and clone it by pressing the "Clone" button
- Make a copy of the BBRevenge.cfg file in the data\Roster\British\Sea directory, rename it to BBArkhangelsk.cfg and place to the data\Roster\Russia\Sea directory
- Replace sequence BBRevenge with BBArkhangelsk in the data\Roster\Russia\Sea\NBB_Arkhangelsk.cfg
- Add new line BBArkhangelsk=Revenge Battleship in data\Sea\EnglishNames.cfg
- Give your new nice skin TGA files any names but NBB_Revenge512.tga or kk1CompleteMap.tga and import them to NBB_Arkhangelsk.dat using Pack3D (for a single skinned version of the ship)
- Check out brand new BB Arkhangelsk in the SH3 Museum
It can possibly work with keeping BBRevenge in both CFG files from the data\Sea\NBB_Arkhangelsk and data\Roster\Russia\Sea\ directories (then you do not need to add anything in EnglishNames.cfg) but I have not tested that.

It's been a while that some tools are available for modding and some techniques have been perfected probably by now. I can't seem to figure out where to start with a very simple project.
I don't want to make a new ship. I want to take a current ship and give its copy to another country. Let's say for example I want to take Revenge battleship and give it to Russians. It's very accurate (russians had Royal Sovereign on lease) and doesn't require any 3d edits.
What I want is simply a copy of Revenge BB, put under Russia, and given it its own skin. That's all. Is it hard?
If it's not too difficult, I would do this thing to some other ships, like give the big liner to the red cross for example. Please point me to the right direction, or if anyone wants to walk me through this, I would really appriciate it... :)
Well, if you want it to have its own skin, I would suggest using Pack3d. You just have to make a copy of the Revenge/Royal Sovereign Class, rename it, and then open and clone the .dat file with Pack3d.
As for the skinning, I would suggest that you use the multi-skin .dat fiel created by UBOAT234. You may want to contact him to ask for the address of his fileshare page (where the file is located). A multi-skin capable .dat is much more efficient for adding new skins, even if you only want to use one. :yep:
(If you just want the USSR to have the Royal Sovereign in the meantime, you can just add the BBRevenge.cfg file in the roster to Russia's Sea folder and change the availability date.)

You need to copy the cfg file from the roster/british folder, not the one from the sea folder, their name is the same but they are different files.

You can try something like this
- Make a copy of the NBB_Revenge folder in the data\Sea directory

I really recommend that everyone download and use UBOAT234's (and also Sergbuto's) multi-skin ship .dat files. They make it much easier to edit and replace skins, even if you still only want to use one at a time. :yep:

I just cloned the Scharnhorst to Gneisenau.

Then I tried to clone another Hipper Class Cruiser, the Prinz Eugen.
I already have the Blücher and the Admiral Hipper in the Game...
but somehow it failt. The Prinz Eugen does not move and the turrets C and D are in the hull: :(

My first guess would be that you named one or more files wrong, or that you used files from two different versions of the game (i.e. patched and unpatched).
I will try to clone the Prinz Eugen to see if it works.

I think it would NOT be a horible crime of the century if you guys start sharing these cloned ships.... With Gnesenau for example. Credit the author, get permission, whateva. :) Gotta get some tangible results out of this thread too. ;) :rock:
I have a cloned Prinz Eugen working, but UBOAT234's multi-skin .dat will NOT work with an unpatched version of the game. The turrets are alright though, I don't know what would cause a problem with those. :-?

Cant offhand remember exactly but I believe the funnel placings are different

That's probably why KGV doesn't work in the museum for me, the multi skin one. Which is a shame...... :( Look at them!

Hm.. can you try to clone another Hipper class unit.. for example the Blücher and then try if they´ll work alltogether?
2 units also work for me but if it comes to the third... :down:

For all, I have tried with various units and three skin, and museum work. (the game patched with the last version)
Is possible, type941, have you other changes? Or have added other MOD? Or added folder of others country, is not complete, (check this)?

My museum crashed after I took them out so may be something wrong there anyway - game plays ok just museum
Will reinstall when have a min but plays ok so will leave as is for the minute

Do not use the latest version of Pack3D for cloning. It corrupts values for some rotations. Use an older version.

BTW. Blücher, Scharnhorst, etc. should already be available!

yes have the blucher as well as the hipper ( from the Hipper class ) that leaves the Prinz and the Lutzow mind you it never had any guns till 41 after being sold to russia in april 40 and the seydlitz was never finished as a cruiser or an aircraft carrier lol they waited till it was nearly finished as a cruiser before deciding to convert it
Have the Scharnhorst too and while it would be easy for someone to clone it to make the Gneisenau it would make more sense to "mod" it by moving the main mast so they look different but unfortunately that not my area of umm anything really lol
Sure someone on here could do it as they have the talent to make completely new ships :up:

but lutzow was a pocket battleship, not hipper class... i always thought so anyway... are we talking same ship here?

Laid down on the 2nd August 1937, the Lützow was the last of five of the Hipper/Prince Eugen class of heavy cruisers. She was launched on the 1st July 1939. As part of the Russian/German pact signed on the 23rd August 1939, Lützow was sold to the USSR on the 11th February 1940. On the 15th April 1940 she was towed to the Ordzhonikidze ship Yard at Leningrad. The agreement was for her to be completed under German guidance no later than 1942.
Deutschland was renamed Lutzow in February 1940, (as Hitler did not want the chance of losing a ship carrying the name of Deutchland)

Seydlitz was the fourth ship in her class to be laid down, work starting on the 29th December 1936. She was launched from the Deschimag Slipway (Bremen) on the 19th January 1939. Like her sister the Lützow, she was considered for sale to the USSR but
Hitler would not allow this. Work continued on her at a slow pace but by May 1942, she was near completion as a cruiser. In June 1942, all work on here stopped, as the Kriegsmarine decided she was to be transformed into an aircraft carrier (under the project name of Weser 1). Seydlitz was stripped down to deck level before heavy bombing of the near by U-Boat facilities forced here move to Königsberg (via Kiel) on the 2nd April 1944. Following the German defeat at the Battle of the Barents Sea, Hitler postponed all work on naval projects. From this point on, Seydlitz was not touched, the ship being rated as a hulk and used only for her accommodation by the end of 1944. As the Red Army advanced on Königsberg, Seydlitz was scuttled at her berth on 29th January 1945.

what ever happened to the russian ship though? Is it good to give it to Russians? Or they never used it? I don't think they have...
They had those crazy Marat battleships, which looked very wicked (would be very nice to have one in the game actually). PLus of course the ancient Revenge BB on loan.

The ship (the former Lützow) was initially titled Project 53 but in September 1940 became the Petropavlosk. By 1941 she began to look like a fighting ship, having main guns in both A and D turrets. With Germany secretly planning the invasion of Russia (Operation Barbarossa), the technical support slowly dwindled, leaving her around 75% complete by time of the German invasion. Even at this stage, Petropavlosk was towed to Call harbour on the 15th August 1941 and used as a floating battery, defending Leningrad against advancing German army units. After firing over 600 rounds she became disabled (after receiving 53 hits) on the 17th September 1941, subsequently she flooded and settled in shallow water. After exactly one year the Petropavlosk was raised in darkness, in the early hours of the 17th September 1942 and towed to Neva, so repairs could be started. By January 1944 she possessed only three serviceable 8in guns, which she put to use to bombard retreating German units (firing over 1000 rounds) during the break out of Leningrad. In September 1944 she was renamed the Tallin, moving to the Baltic so her planned construction could be completed. Post war, the Tallin was redesigned, but by 1948 the expense of the modifications was equal to a newly built Sverdlov cruiser. This was unjustifiable and all further work on her was stopped. She next became a static training ship under the name of Dnepr before ending her days as the accommodation ship PKZ-112. The ship was removed from Russian Naval listings in 1958 and broken up in 1960 at the Vtorchermet yards, Leningrad.
No perhaps not a good idea to give to the Russians lol

Did you make sure to generate new ID#'s in Pack3d for the ships' unique parts? Also, you should try and keep the number of characters in the ships' name the same as the parent ships'. For instance, someone cloning NCA_Hipper (10 characters) as the "Blucher" could name the new unit NCA_Bluche, but NOT NCA_Blucher (11 characters). Also, are there entries for the vessels in data\sea\englishnames.cfg (or whichever language you're using)? Did you edit out the old unit name in the data\sea\[unit].cfg file, and add the name for the new unit?
Not to imply that you weren't thorough or anything - it's just that most of my crashes with new units are because of these mistakes.

Pack3D atomatically generates new IDs upon cloning. And the name of the cloned ship can have any length, f.e. NBB_Revenge can be replaced by NBB_Arkhangelsk as I indicated above.

not sure pack 3d was working properly as just sat the after clicking clone
Said bottom left cloning but didnt seem to ever finish
It may be I have a problem elsewhere as museum crashed after removing the 2 units anyway and if I open up the mission editor I get a message about the Italian BB not being in something or other
BTW yes i did add to english names and changed all names in the cfg and folders - in fact I think I followed the instructions at the top of the thread to the letter but I think the problem lies elsewhere
In the middle of a campaign now on that instal so will wait till over before having a go at it.If I get the ships thru download will put them in a new install to check out till sort the instal I use the most

I think only the latest version does that if I remember correctly. Any other previous version should be fine in this respect.

Unfortunately it's not so.
Versions of 10/22/2005 and 10/5/2005 do it too.
