Does anyone have or know of a flak gun editing/modding tutorial/guide? I searched the forums and haven't found anything.

All flack guns entries are in the basic .cfg file so if you want them earlier that's the file you need to edit.

You can edit how much ammunition you get and when you get the guns (look around in the file, you can figure out which gun is which) and when you get them. Its pretty far down.
However, you can't mod damage there. I think to do that you have to modify shells.zon, or something similar, and I don't know how to do that. I'm pretty sure they changed gun damage for NYGM, so it can be done.
CrewAI.sfg and sim.cfg have some data which might pertain to range and accuracy, but I've never played around with those, so I don't know what it might do.

If i remember correctly you can modify the shell dmg by using Timetravellers SH3 mini-tweaker prog, you might have to look around to find it.

The tweaker also allows you to modify a host of other files and there is an explanation on how to create your own tweak files.

kudos to Timetraveller!

"Kudos" isn't "Forum Speak." It's been around for a long time. It means:

"Kudos (IPA: ['kju:dɒs], from the Greek κύδος kydos, literally "that which is heard of") means fame and renown resulting from an act or achievement; by extension is often used as a praising remark. It entered English as British university slang in the early 1800s. Frequently used by Time magazine, it came to America in the 1920s and 1930s.

Note that despite the sound of the American pronunciation (IPA: ['kju:doʊs] or IPA: ['kju:doʊz]), the word is singular, not plural. Thus one can say "much kudos" but never "many kudos"."

The "SH3 Inspector" is a godsend. Ive been doing most of the modding it does manually, and its a pain. I didnt see a tab on in for flak guns though.

What are you wanting to change about the flak guns? Everything you could possibly want is in the GUNS_SUB.sim file, load it up in hex workshop (google, its a free editor) and go to town. I can tell you that reducing the recoil_time to near zero and upping the shell speed to 10,000 or so will give you a plane swatting laser, its good for a little revenge on the bombers.

What are differences between SH3 Inspector and SH3 Mini Tweaker? I'd like to change some values in sensor.dat file. I can do it with SH3 Mini Tweaker, but maybe SH3 Inspector is better for it?

For my sins i've never heard of SH3 Inspector :o

Mini tweaker however is deffinately a prog worth getting in that it allows a vast amount of modification to most of the sub-systems, these files are also "customizeable" so that you can add your own modifications or files for that matter if you know what you are doing (read the readme that comes with the tweaker for further info on how to achieve this).

I've used this prog many times and its the business

SH3 File Analyzer, SH3 Inspector and SH3 Mini Tweaker all allow editing of SH3 binary files. For most users SH3 Mini Tweaker pretty much replaces the former two. However, if you primarily edit ships, subs or planes, you may also want SH3 Inspector which is more specific to these files.

For editing the "common" files like sensors.dat, or guns_sub.sim and the like, use SH3 Mini Tweaker. FWIW I use it exclusively for every SH3 binary file.

But bountyhunter hasn't actually stated what he wants to do with the Flak guns! That would help immensely in pointing him in the right direction. There's no point getting him to install SH3 Mini Tweaker if all he wants to do is remove the Flak gun or get it earlier.

My bad

I assumed which is always bad... that he was looking into changing rate of fire or shell damage.

Bountyhunter.. be a bit more specific next time :) , that way i wont have JScones putting me in a torpedo and firing it at a C3 :rotfl:

by the way JScones your mod enabler... it rocks!
