Using GW 1.1 with JiRMs Recognition book, Improved orders mod, plus some sound mods.

On my first patrol and have sunk a "Tramp Steamer" and survived a couple of air attacks so things are working however...

I have experienced 2 CTD's west of Scotland while stalking a single ship identified (the second time) as a "Medium Cargo Ship". Seems like I was goofing with the sonar operator buttons when this happended the second time...maybe the first too. A problem with 1024_768.cfg?? Things went well with the "Tramp Steamer" though.

Assuming its something with this particular ship that is causing me problems could someone point me to likely areas to check??

A .cfg file? A skin .tga? Any ideas?

Thx.

EDIT: It was a bad (or blank at 4 kb) voice file...the sonar operator saying "Bearing". Not sure how it got there (or how it got bad) but problem solved. Been having a blast ever since. Its nice to play without worrying about CTD's. I am currently stalking my first convoy of this career.

My apologies to the makers of GW for suspecting your campaign file.

Well, I shot the hell out of Medium Cargo ships in training and single missions, pushing every darn button in the simulation. Everything works everywhere else but in this career encounter west of Scotland.

Guess I gotta say its something in the GW 1.1 campaign files unless someone has any ideas.

Could you give me a list of ALL your mods that you use with GW and in what order have you installed them.

Also, what year is it and which uboat you have.

Do you use SH3Cmdr?

I´d recommend to re-install the mods and rollback the SH3Cmdr, that just might do the trick.

I origialy had a CTD West of Scotland after installing GW and the Vanilla UC Mod by Rubini. It was due to the Vsmallbase missing from the Land Folder. Pls check in you Land Folder for the above.

Update:
Restarted from my last save point in a attempt to meet this same ship/encounter...saving continiously this time!

I got the same single ship contact and sailed for it but in the heavy fog I missed it. No visual or sonar contact.

Continuing south approx. 250 miles west of Scotland I got another single ship contact that, through luck, I managed to intercept...visibility about 600 meters. Anyway it turned out to be a "Large Cargo Ship" that I intercepted and sunk just fine after two torpedoes.

Info on Career/SH3 setup:
All realism on except No Manual Targetting.
Sept. 9, 1939 in a VIIB (U-47).
GW 1.1
Custom sound folder (mix/match of various sound mods)
Jirm's Recognition manual.
Improved Orders for GW.
Using SH3 Commander with a custom fatigue model.

I understand that heavy tweaking (which I do) can cause problems but just with this particular encounter?
Thats what made me think the campaign files but I will check into the airbase suggestion though I have suffered air attacks in this area...unless there are multiple airbases in range to launch Sea Hurricanes.

I luv this game!

Well, the airbase folder is where its supposed to be.
Perhaps this CTD is a "fluke" though I find them very frustrating. I must remember to save more often.

I have noticed that when I do get CTD's in my long history of playing SH3, with many different mods over time, they seem to occur, 90% of the time, when I am encountering a ship or convoy in some career. I have to learn the ins & outs of the campaign files.
