Hi everyone! I have NYGM mod installed and my WO used to see out as far as 14k when we surface if I remembered corectly. Recently, I add the UC for NYGM mod, Now my WO can only see out at around 7k.

Is there a mod that bring me back to the 16k range, I know there are mods call 16k dark mod and 16k light mod, why are there 2 and which one should I use.

Thanks!

Same here mate!
My WO, a week back became somewhat short-sighed.
I also want him to see as far as he used to!
Anyone knows what's up with that! :hmm:

The UC did away with 16 km. To get it back use the sensors.dat from NYGM.

How did the UC do away with this? Did it only do that for NYGM or for GW as well? I'm using GW 1.0 (with the 16Km dark optional mod that came with GW, with the IUB 16Km "fix" on top of that to fix the light blue band along the horizon problem) with the UC for GW on top of it. I went to replace the sensors.dat file in my UC mod with the one from GW, only to find that my UC mod didn't have a sensors.dat file. I'm so confused

The UC did not do away with the 16 Km mod. Also, the sensors.dat file has nothing to do with the visibility mods themselves.

It is the scene.dat file that determines viewing distances and the size of the sky/sea viewable environment.

The sensors.dat file determines characteristics of sensors.

I believe that Booger is mistaken.

I don't want to get too deep into the Voodoo of what are SH3 files.
But how do i get my WO to see as far as he used to. :-?

That's what I'm talking about (as that was the question), and no I'm not mistaken. To get the WO to see 16km use the sensors.dat from NYGM. You can still see that far yourself so the scene.dat file is fine. Its the WO thats the problem, not the visibility, and the WO uses the visual sensor setting from sensors.dat. This fix worked for me perfectly.

I did as you suggested mate, but still the farthest my WO can see is around 7000.

DAmn if i would just understand the way this works. What are the lines/values in the Sensor file i must take a look at?

do you have SHIII mini tweaker? Get it here http://www.delraydepot.com/tt/sh3sdk.htm

Open up mini tweaker.
Load the tweak file Sensors_dat

From the drop down box select (under the words 22 categories) Visual. You should see a whole list of Names&Values. Click on PreciseRange. The line should be highlighted in blue. There should be a box that says Single and then a number. My guess is it's like 6000 to 8000, right? At least that was what it was for me when I got UC. Now, there should be a box that says New Value. Type in 15500 and press Save New Value. Now do the same for MaxRange only enter in the value 16000. That takes you up to NYGM 16km specs.

The Sensors file from NYGM (data/Library) already has these values and replacing with this file should be an easy fix. I don't know why it didn't work. Are you sure you used Sensors and not AISensors?

It's simple: open up the GW files, look in the Optional Mods file, find 16 km Dark or 16 km Light, copy the Data folder from the one you want and paste it into your game.

Light is for players with computers that don't let them see anything at night. Dark is for players whose nighttime screens are too light, and they want it a little darker.

Using the NYGM Sensor.dat file did not change the range for me either...still 7000.

A question please:

I made the reccomended changes that you suggested using Minitweaker and saved them.

What does one do next?

Are these changes transfered into the in game Sensor.dat file or do I need to copy the modified Sensor.dat file from the Minitweaker Tweak folder into the SHIII/ Data/Library folder?

I'm thinking I must do the second option in order to have the changes show up in game but I thought I better ask first to make sure :yep:

I guess this threads probably where i should post this, but after playing around with 16K visible distance for a couple patrols now, i really feel its overpowering.

Its late 1942 and im crash diving before planes even see me. I don't know if lookouts on a uboat bridge seeing as far as 16KM is possible or realistic or not. I do know that in terms of SH3, this is better then radar.

Personnaly i think im gonna back off 16K and go with 8K, sh3 has become too easy.

It's interesting the different experiences people have. I'm using the 16km Dark mod, and twice I've had planes jump me before they were spotted. The only thing that saved me was that I was also using the Airpower Mod, so they weren't too accurate and their bombs missed.

I'm assuming that the late spotting came because I was running at 2048x Compression, but I've also heard that that causes air attacks to cease. I got attacked.

Who knows.

@ Seminole

As long as tweaker is using your SHIII root folder, which I think is default, you're good to go!

@Ducimus

Perhaps aircraft spotting is enhanced, but as far as spotting ships goes, its even slightly weak. I sometimes visit my cousin who lives near the shore of Lake Huron, and from the beach on a clear day you can easily make out the bulk freighters moving through the shipping lanes, and those are way the hell out there. I've heard that the horizon is about 20 miles away, and you should be able to see smoke that far.
