2 Questions Enemy Subs and odd Grid Assignment

But I'm Using Grey Wolves Mod 1.0 + 1.1 update
and had a few radio messages about contact with enemy subs.
are they "actually" moded in the game?
I know sub to sub contacts was extemly rare in WWII

A second question
In November 1941 my patrol grid was assigned to Grid CA-73
odd assignment since the U.S. has not "offically" entered the war.
recon? maybe?

No, there are no enemy subs. No friendly ones either, except that GW uses Rubini's lates Harbour Traffic Mod, which puts them in. The messages are part of IrishRed's RadioLog Mod. They are real messages from the war, thrown in for atmosphere.

As to the Grid assignments, I don't know.

Was there much sub/sub contact in the Pacific Theatre between US and Japanese submarines? Based on my (very weak) historical knowledge, neither the British nor French had any significant submarine presence so U-boats would be unlikely to encounter them. It seems that both the Japanese and the US had relied comparitively heavily on submarines...

So a) would they ever detect one another, b) would they ever attempt to engage each other (and how) and c) what's the chances of this being modelled in SH4?

A British submarine sank a U-Boat near the Shetlands. Another British sub was sent to a remote area where three U-Boats were refueling. It didn't sink any of them, but it did cause some alarm. Clay Blair tells how "One of the British submarines that maintained a continous watch on Bergen" sank the U-864. The British commander had earlier won a DSO for sinking U-771.

The destruction of U-864 is interesting in that both boats were submerged. The sonar watch picked up the U-Boat and the commander fired four torpodeos by "passive sonar and guesswork". He was the only skipper of any nation to sink another sub while both were submerged.

So the British did have a submarine presence, and one that achieved some success. It's been a while since I've done any reading on the Pacific though, so I'll have to leave that question for someone else.

As for your grid assignment the US might not be at war but you can encounter british ships in the most unlikely places.
