View Full Version : Rose Castle Ore Carrier Beta Testers Needed

I have tested the Rose Castle several times, and am no longer getting CTD's. I would like four or five people to volunteer to test out the ship in a single mission to try to confirm these results. I don't want to release a BETA to the general community, because some inexperienced moddrs will probably try to use her in a campaign and then complain if they get a CTD. So if anyone is interested, post here. I will upload the ship on rapidshare and send a link in a PM.

I may add a small crane to the bow of the hull .obj file later, and raise the forecastle. But that will come later.

OK, I'll post the link. Instead of PM'ing it, maybe I should just post it here. But I will post a warning:

THIS SHIP HAS CAUSED CTD'S IN THE PAST, SO DO NOT USE IT IN YOUR CAMPAIGN UNTIL IT HAS BEEN TESTED. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO TEST IT, PLEASE DO SO IN A SINGLE MISSION IN WHICH A CTD WILL NOT AFFECT ANYTHING.

Having posted a warning, I shall now post the file. ;)

I have to go to bed now. I will check for feedback in the morning. Remember, although this ship is now working for me, it may still cause a CTD for someone else.

Alright! another smallish merchant!

I might wait till it's been tested before I use it, as you said. It hasn't got a recognition page either... so that also precludes me from using it in the campaign.

I might test later when I have some time.

btw... I'm willing to make a recognition manual page if you want?

Beeeautiful!

Once it's safe for campaigns, I'll definately want to get my hands on this one.

Good job mate!

I am working on an ID manual as we speak, but thank you anyway. :yep:

Has anybody set up a single mission with the ship yet?

Ok, I just tested the ship in a single mission with 3 ships.

The first two, both ships were both destroyed from critical hits on the first torp. The third I hit in the bow area and then shelled for about 5 mins before she went down. No CTDs or anything.

The only thing I noticed is that the bridge is not conected to the ship when broken in half... but I remeber that from another post.
... and the UV mapping is off on the upper decks and bridge, but you know that too I'm sure :88)
Other than that she's hunky dory.

- Just another thing. Could it be that your ships are too eay to sink? I seem to get critical hits very often on your ships. I've only tested this ship once and got two critical hits... also the chathams and whale factories etc, that I have seen in my last campaign, I'd say I get a critical hit at least 75% of the time. Not so on the stock (NYGM damage) ships. Fluke or not?

Well, you could try increasing the HPs, but that probably wouldn't really help. Other than that, I am not sure why this would happen. :-?

Does this happen with the ships for which I included a NYGM damage file (with 2160 HPs)?

I now have an ID image ready. I will include it in a 1.0 release when I get some more feedback. :yep:

The zones for the Liberty Ship are correct for this ship as well. Forgot to change the renown value though - I just noticed that. :damn:

Some notes from testing:

-Launch one torpedo at medium range, set to explode underneath the keel. High speed.
-Impact. Torpedo detonates underneath the aft deckhouse. No visible effect - no fires break out, and ship barely settles, even after 15-20 minutes.
-Maneuver my U-Boat to allow for impact shot. 2 meters. Impact warhead (no point in risking premature detonation). Medium speed, since I'm close and it needs time to arm.
-Impact, underneath the bridge. Two large fires immediately break out in forward cargo holds.
-Massive explosion in engine room breaks the ship in half 15 seconds later. Most of the tanks on deck and cranes explode and fall overboard. The stern lists very heavily, while the bow remains on an even keel.
-Entire ship is submerged 15 minutes after 2nd hit.

All in all, the sinking experience was more interesting than most. I enjoyed the different behaviors of the ship halves - the game seemed to model how the aft section was already full of water, and thus almost capsized after the second hit. The model looked clean and neat. I think the bridge texture mapping should be altered - I made a civilian-painted skin and I didn't like how it was the same as the funnel texture. Not to nitpick, or anything - It'll be fine if the skin is all grey.

Yeah, that bridge texture does need to be changed. If Cdr Gibs doesn't mind doing the UV mapping, then maybe he could fix the bridge to use part of the superstructure texture.

AG124, I use your included NYGM zones on your ships... as I said it could be just blind luck that I've had the rsults I did.

Confession :-? - Because I'm impatient and want to be able to use your ship already, I've blatantly stolen your preview image of the ID page and made a useable tga out of it. I got rid of the zones etc. and also made a low contrast version to make it compatable with the GW manual.

Ok, I've tested the ship multiple times in multiple missions now with good results. I've had all manner of sinking types and all in all the ship behaves in pretty much the same way I would expect any stock ship with NYGM to behave.
No problems at all.

:rotfl: OK. But I am going to make a release today anyway with the image included, unless someone reports a mjor problem.

Since their have been no reports of a CTD, I plan to make a 1.0 release today. First, I have to try to get my video capture card working for unrelated reasons, and then I will post the ship on my FileShare page. :yep:

I do know about the sinking, as I live in Newfoundland. In fact, there was a guy one of my Political Science classes in university who had dived on the Rose Castle last summer. The wreck of the ship (and of the other three sunk there - Saganaga, Lord Strathcona, and PLM 27) has been badly damaged by careless salvors who used explosives to remove anything of any value. :o

yeah saw you were from Canada so guessed you would know about it

aint that typical of the selfish few to ruin them for others

well have downloaded the Rose Castle and installed

have just began a new career thru sh3 commander so will let you know how it goes and if I see one

Am using the .scr of the wolfpack campaign - as iam in that - so hopefully will come across one - have seen your coastal tanker and converted whale ship not the others yet tho

keep up the great work just wish i was clever enough to do one myself
