View Full Version : SH3 Weather - Skweetis where are you?

I'd organised with Skweetis a while ago that at some point we'd integrate SH3Weather into SH3Cmdr. Unfortunately, Skweetis appears to have gone AWOL.

As a compromise, I am thinking of adding one line of code to SH3Cmdr that will look for the presence of SH3Weather in the SH3 folder (where SH3Weather needs to be installed). If it finds it, it runs it as the last thing prior to loading SH3.

The benefit is that you no longer need to run both apps separately. The negative (perhaps), is that you'll have a few extra mouse clicks after pressing the "Launch SH3!" button.

Of course, if you don't use SH3Weather, you won't be impacted.

So, I am curious what SH3Cmdr/SH3Weather users think of this?

BTW, if you have no idea what I am talking about, read http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=46991&highlight=

It turns out I had read this post and DL'd the latest version awhile back but never did anything with it. I thought it was a great idea back then and it's an even better idea now if it can be incorporated into Commander.
You've got my vote.

Anything that can be introduced to to the game that increases believability or that will throw a few little additional random factors into the mix is a plus in my book.

Now if we can only get 4 engine bombers to stop acting like fighter planes.

Sounds like a great idea. Using both already, so merging is a + in my book. :yep:

Sounds good, I'd use it.

I use FSautostart. It dumps all the junk out of memory, defrags memory, starts SH3CMDR and then starts SH3Weather.
I remember a post from Skweetis to the effect that he would be busy for a while, but would return.
I would like to see the weather generator incorporated into SH3CMDR

I must have to try FSAutoStart. I had been using EndItAll before upgrading to my current computer. But my new machine is pretty fast so I haven't bothered reinstalling EndItAll. Does FSAutoStart make much of a difference?

I tried SH3weather recently, but I encountered a very strange problem:

Right after reloading my current patrol, the boat suddenly goes in a *fast* crashdive and crushes on the ground or in deep sea - without any chance of stopping it.
This only happened when I used SH3weather in that campaign - but not always - sometimes the patrol loaded without problems

I had to uninstall SH3weather and overwrite the campaign*.mis files with a backup. All is fine now.

Damn I really would like to use it, but I can't. :(

I hope Skweetis returns.

JScones,
I have a laptop with an Athelon 4000+,but a lousey ATI 128 (Shared) memory 200 mobile express. FS autostart really helps the frame rate on this machine.
I also have a much faster desktop with a good video card, and I don't see any difference on this machine.
However, it does start SH3weather automatically for me. I would much prefer SH3 CMDR do this.

I just had the exact same thing happen. I was able to save and reload until the first time the weather changed, then I had the exact same experience as you. This has only happened to me twice after using SH3Weather 20 or more times. What I did to save the patrol was to put back the original versions of the 3 files that SH3Weather changes. Then I was able to continue the patrol without any further problem. (I'm glad I took the advice Skweetis put in his readme and made backups of the original files.)
