Well, since I had to do a clean re-install, it means that the configuration I had done to one of the files is all gone :cry: I came across insructions, a while back, on how to change the configuration relating to crew fatigue and now I cannot find that piece of paper. Does anyone know what file I am referring to, so I can change the values and what the numbers I am supposed to change the values to. That way I don't have a crew that gets fatigued. In other words, getting rid of the problem. :up: I am getting tired of having to go through the process of changing crews all the time, especially when I'm in an attack mode, taking on a large convoy. :down: Thanks, Robert

Go to Sticky: List of modific.... etc. That's a good source. Myself I use the 24h Holl. with minor adjustments.

Dead easy :)
Just use SH3 Commander. You can change fatigue to basically whatever you want with just one mouse click.

I see this SH Commander recommended by various people. I do not know the advantages of using it instead of the stock game. Perhaps you could tell me. :D I have just made a CLEAN install after having problems with the installation of some mods. :-? There should really be a list of which mod should be extracted by JSGME and in what order they should be installed into the game. That would really make things easy for those of us who are not capable of logical thinking sometimes. :dead: There are SO MANY mods out there and I have no idea which should be installed prior to installing an additional. I had also heard mentioned that some mods are outdated in relation to installing RUb1.45. I just finish a CLEAN install for a third time because of complications due to mod installation. Yes, I used to be a professor by profession, but that was quite sometime ago and now, because of my complicated incurable diseases, I do not think that well anymore. PLUS, a lot of mods come with no instruction sheet on how to install and do not provide the appropriate folder to put into the MOD folder and use JSGME to install them. SO, you see my problem. I love the game. :rock: I have played every submarine game that came out - I think they are great (except for 688(i) because it was too complicated for me). I just finished reading the information that came with RUb1.45 - are there really mines in the ports? I have not installed anything after that yet. But, I live to have as much in additional mods in the game as possible that do not conflict with each other. I WILL take the precaution of testing each mod I install before using it in my career. I am tired of reinstalling the game. :down: This is now the 4th fresh start. SO, where do I go from here? Please tell me why I should install SH3 Commander and how it affects the game. I would be pleased to do so if it does not wreck my career (which I had backed up). Thanks for responding. NOW, if I can only get someone who would keep me informed of which mod to install next, and if I come across one that does not have install instructions, or the instructions are in a foreign language, it would be great if someone would tell me what to do with it. Also, when these mods do not come with a folder to put into the MOD folder and has to be installed manually, that could be my problem. I DO backup originals before installing. By doing some checking in relations to sounds in the game and speeches, why are their mods that make the originals worse instead of better??? If SH3 Commander would enhance the game for me, then I will install it. My next planned install is Augie RecManual, then JCW_Intros and then the Sound Trainer and finally the Bow Fix VIIB as I hate that mast in the front of the sub. One thing I do find is that I cannot read those small dials at the bottom. Three more things: I want to remove the words "GAME PAUSED" because I take a lot of snaps when playing; 2) I AM going to change the fatigue factor and lastly, I AM going to change the length of time that a person gets promoted from a simple Lieutenant Jr. I was an Oberlieutnant z. Sr. but I forget what file I had to change for those and I lost the piece of paper I had in the order of the promotions in rank after Oberlieutnant z. Sr. I know that the game pause is #90 and the other ranks are around #170, but I forget which file. I DO NOT want to play any more game where the fatigue factor starts to interfere and I have to quit an enemy attack because everyone in the sub is fatigued!!! I hate getting sunk, doesn't everyone??? hehe. Thanks for listening to my whinning. Robert. If there are any spelling mistakes, it's because my fingers do not always do what they are supposed to :cry:

If I were to install SH3 Commander, how does that affect the other mods I wish to install??
Oh, I just read that RUb1.45 already installed a hospital ship, then why is there an additional hospital ship mod???

Now I am really confused. I just read the SH3 Commander FAQ and it seems that people are having problems with it. Does it alter my career that I have already saved and does it alter my already achieved crew efficiency? Since I have already installed MVP and RUb1.45, will it work with them? Do I still use JSGME to activate mods? Confused. :oops: Robert

SHIII Commander does exactly nothing...until you ask it to.
With it you can randomise your crew names (and your Captain's name) one at a time, or all together. It lets you:
A: Manage your crew. It takes you to a special screen that lets you give out extra medals and qualifications. It lets you promote or demote crew members at your choice.
B: Look at your Captain's life and career. It tells you when and where he was born, and after he retires it tells you about the rest of his career and life. It also retires him after a random amount of patrols...but only if you want it too.
C: Set the parameters of the game: Do you want the deck gun to reload after 1 minute? 15 seconds? 1 second? Just click the box and type in the number. Do you want waves to be twice as high? Click 2x on the wave height box. Decide that's two much? Click 'Normal'. Do you like seeing the 'Hull Integrity %'? Click 'On'. No? Click 'Off'. Do you like the RUB fatigue system? Hollywood 24 Hour? 8 Hour? No fatigue at all? Just click on the one you want.
D: Set the time compression parameters with a click. Hate leaving port in real time? Click 'Near Land; and set to 128x, or 1024x if you're brave. Set max TC for 4096 if you like.
E: It also assigns a name to each ship you sink, so you'll see it when you look at your career (also recorded in Commander)
F: Also, if you like, it will make you lose a crew member while in port (anything from 'Transferred to a new boat' to 'Killed in a bar fight' or 'Arrested for being drunk and disorderly'.
SHIII Commander puts a huge amount of formerly complicated tasks at your fingertips. As I said, it can change almost anything, or nothing...your choice.

Install it any time you like. Mods don't affect it, and it doesn't affect mods. It simply lets you make individual changes with a click. Some of the changes are the same as some mods make, some of them aren't.
The key here is that it won't affect anything you don't want it to.

NO! Don't use 2.3! Well, you can, but 2.5 is much improved.
http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=51674
At the bottom of JSCones' post he has a direct link to 2.5. Also, the Combined Ship Pack, which is an add-on that lets you see several different paint schemes on the same merchants, at the same time. This was included in earlier versions, but is separate now because it's so big.

Well, it had already been done, I set my options in it, then I manually installed Augie64's RecManualMod, JCW_Intro, Sound Trainer, Removed the "GAME PAUSE", and then changed JCW's Intro screen and replaced it with Intro-q1. Tried to continue my career and the game crashed. I got the correct screens, but It crashed on the Initializing screen. Do you want me to uninstall SH3 Commander and get the latest one and then try again from when I was in port? Robert. Waiting impatiently :up:
I uninstalled that version and installed the latest version and now my rank has been reduced to Ensign????? How do I get my rank as Oberleutnant z. Sr. back? Also, I will install the addon?? Btw, what's this "roll back" thing? Robert

Hi Steve, Berry, U-bones. I run into something different when I installed RUB1.45. I get white dials at the bottom and a scale along the side. I don't know why that didn't show up the first time I used it. But anyway, things are running fine, I was able to change my rank back to what it was but I would still like to know what the "Roll Back" is for. Thanks a bunch guys. Now I just need to know what mods I do not have to install now because I would not like to lose the while dials (easier to read) but I can do without the scale on the side of the nav map. Another thing I have noticed is that the beginning theme does not start now, it goes directly to the menu. Oh, yes, I cannot get the gramophone to play anything. Robert.

Hi guys. Now as I mentioned, I am not sure now what I should install because I am launching through SH3 Commander v2.5. So, I'll mention them so you can tell me if I should not: NeuUZO&PeriV.2, Bow Fix VIIB (to get rid of the mast), Daily Contacts reports 1.01, Ave.Joe Torpedo+Deckgun speed-of-sound delay v1.2+ (as there are sounds in there that I want and I can delete the ones I don't want and add some that I do want), CourseSolver (don't know if I need that as there is already a compass around my sub in the TDC screen), Improved smoke v 1.1, Realistic VIIB/C Hull, RealDC_2, Improved Convoys and Bow Spray, the mod that deals with the "wake" my sub leaves. That will do for now. I will only install one at a time, so what should be next and what should I NOT install. I am only running at 29% realism because of my diseases (thought and breathing process). I believe it mentioned that with SH3 Commander, I can operate at "decks awash" is that correct? Robert.
Reducing rank is a flaw in SH3 (the standard game) itself. If you buy a lot of stuff (new subs, equipment, etc.) during your early career the game may temporarily drop you down a rank. It may be that this happened and you didn't notice it until after you installed SH3 Commander. It's doubtful that SH3 Commander will cause the problem because it doesn't alter ranks at all. If you started the game using SH3 Commander you can undo all changes it made by just pushing the 'Rollback' button. This will bring you back to the game as it was before you installed SH3 Commander. You can do this after every session if you want.
All you really have to be careful of with SH3 Commander is that you don't install or uninstall other mods while SH3 Commander is enabled. Do a 'rollback' before adding or removing mods. The reason is that when you start the game via SH3 Commander it installs its own set of mods and tweaks based on your inputs in the SH3 Commander program. You must remove these (rollback) before adding or removing something that may conflict with the SH3 Commander mods. As far as I'm aware, SH3 Commander will work with any version of the game and with any mods.
Once you get used to it, you won't believe the positive difference SH3 Commander will make to your game. Just one example is the personnel file it generates. Not only will it give you a full listing of your commander's stats for his wartime career, but it will generate a full history for him, from birth until death, or if he survives the war, it will give his post-war biography until old age.

So, when do I do a "roll Back"? after I have finished my patrol and back in base 'cause that's when I will add a new mod. Do I backup my career before doing the roll back? I'm not sure exactly what roll back is for? That has me confused. Robert.

Look at it this way: SH3 Commander is really a glorified mod installer. When you load the game via SH3 Commander, it looks at various game files and loads certain mods depending on the date of the current career, the boat type in use, and the flotilla in use. It also loads up certain tweaks that you chose in the SH3 Commander 'SH3 Options' menu. So it loads all these things into the game - and these things are installed just like an install program would install a mod - only every time you use SH3 Commander it installs a slightly different mod from its database of files. It installs these files and keeps a record of exactly what it has installed. When you do a 'rollback' what you're doing is uninstalling the SH3 Commander mod files - uninstalling the mod. This happens every time you launch the game via SH3 Commander - it uninstalls the previous mod and installs a new one to match the career situation. The Rollback feature simply enables you to uninstall all the SH3 Commander mods automatically, in case you want to install other mods.
Hope that explains it better.

When I returned to the game, SH3 Commander rolled back and I bacame an Ensign again :damn: . During my patrol I was told that a ship was spotted at short range (but I saw no ship) :damn: and then I was told it rammed us (I looked and there was no damage) :damn: I completed the patrol and was told I was promoted and received a medal, so I looked and I had actually LOST all the medals I had earned prior to installing this programme. What's going on with this program?????
I WANT to get rid of this darn nav map with the ruler on the right hand side and the compass around my sub and get back to the normal SHIII nav map, and I WANT to see the ships before I am told I got rammed.
I don't think I like this programme :damn: :down: Robert
It sounds like you've installed other mods, because as far as I know (and I made almost all the mods that went into SH3 Commander, and I know what's in all those I didn't make) SH3 Commander can't make you an ensign. The patrol shenanigans you experienced can't be caused by SH3 Commander. I didn't even know the message for ramming was in the game (maybe it's in the English language version). Losing lots of medals could happen if you had chosen the auto-fix button for medals for all your crew, but it's a lot of work, and you'd definitely know you were doing it. SH3 Commander will allow you to give any medal, so this can at least be fixed, but since you lost ALL your medals, again, it can't be SH3 Commander causing this.
As for the nav map and ruler being in a weird place, again, can't be SH3 Commander-related unless it's caused by a severe misreading (or ignoring of) of SH3 Commander's Help file. SH3 Commander does absolutely nothing with the nav tools.
If you're blaming SH3 Commander for all this, you're blaming the wrong program. What other mods have you installed recently?
Note: the only highlighted notes in the SH3 Commander Help file are these:
IMPORTANT!!! In order to avoid any potential file integrity problems, ALWAYS perform a rollback in SH3 Commander BEFORE:
- enabling or disabling any mods, either via JSGME or manually;
- uninstalling or reinstalling Silent Hunter III;
- uninstalling SH3 Commander.
Untold weirdness can result from ignoring these rules.
Apart from that, I think we need JScones to weigh in on this one. He's much more attuned to what strange instabilities have been attributed to SH3 Commander, and he may know exactly what has gone wrong in this case.
If you're using SH3 Commander as the Help file says, it's absolutely 100% impossible for SH3 Commander to screw up your game.

If you're using SH3 Commander as the Help file says, it's absolutely 100% impossible for SH3 Commander to screw up your game.
Prior to installing SH3 Commander, I had installed JSGME, MVP-1.0 and RUb1.45 (I think this is where the nav map came from) then I installed SH3 Commander 2.5 and add-on, then I installed Augie64 recmanualmod, JCW-Intro, Sound Trainer, Intro_q1, and removed the game pause.
So, I think what I'm going to do, now that I'm back at base is to Uninstall SH3 Commander, uninstall RUb1.45. The I will run the game to see what happens. If the nav screen looks okay, I will not reinstall RUb1.45 or do I HAVE to have it??? I will follow your directions on what I should do to FIX the nav screen. BUT I was Oberleutnant z. S. before I installed SH3 Commander. WHen I installed it, it told me I was an Ensign and it is sticking with that. I tried to change it but it rolled me back again to Ensign. What happened to my medals I had. I will check when I try the game again without SH3 COmmander. Robert.

If you're new to the game (or new to mods) I'd advise against using RUb. A better choice of major mod for the beginner would be the Grey Wolves (GW) mod, which is a bit more attuned to the casual player. If you're a realism junkie, RUb or NYGM would be the way to go, but I'd try SH3 Commander first, because it's easy to use and it's going to give you a lot in an easy to control format. The other major mods (RUb, IUb, NYGM, GW) give you a lot, but they are all or nothing, and there may be a lot not to like if you're used to the standard game.
The JSGME utility is a mod installer, not a mod. You use it to install all mods (except SH3 Commander which is also really a mod installer) so that they can be easily removed.
As for MVP, SH3 Commander already has it. I don't know what the Augie64 recmanualmod, JCW-Intro, Sound Trainer and Intro_q1 mods are. I'd be cautious about using these, as some of them may be included in the larger scale mods (RUb, IUb, NYGM, GW) you're considering. The mod that removes the game pause - again, I've never heard of it - but this can be done via SH3 Commander too, by setting 'When game paused' to 1 in the options menu.
I advise you to uninstall everything, and perhaps uninstall and re-install the game (keep your saved game files). You'll probably save yourself a bunch of time if you do this, and you'll be sure of getting a clean game. Then just try it with SH3 Commander. You can mess with settings in that and get used to how it works. Once you're satisfied with it, then try other mods (but remember to rollback before installing anything, and always use JSGME to install all mods.

Beery, the one thing I DO NOT like about SH3 COmmander is the roll back, It keeps rolling me back to Ensign and I lost all the medals I had PRIOR to installing it. Robert.

It doesn't roll back your rank or your medals. It just uninstalls the mods that it put into the game in the first place. Like I said before, it's not doing what you think it's doing. Doing a rollback can't remove your medals unless you installed another mod while SH3 Commander was in effect (which is why the Help file warns against doing this).

I'm sorry Beery, I did not see any help file. How do I stop SH3 Commander from being in effect before I install a mod? I'm sorry that I'm stupid or don't understand. Please get back to me because I am in port and I am going to do Patrol 21 over again and I just installed the VIIB Bow Fix. I am currently Oberleutnant z. Sr. and if it rolls me back to Ensign again and takes away my previously awarded medals, I most certainly will NOT use it even though I think it might be good to use. Robert.

You just do a rollback. However, if you did a rollback AFTER installing a mod - i.e. if you installed a mod while SH3 Commander was in effect and THEN did a rollback, it's almost certain that this is where the problem lies, because doing this would uninstall parts of the mod you installed. If this was the case you'll very probably have to do a full uninstall and re-install of the game in order to undo the problems. If you do this, keep your save game files and after re-installing the game restart your game from the point before you experienced the problems. This will ensure that you get back your career fully intact.
It's human nature to ignore readme and help files - I commit this crime all the time, hehe (much to Jaesen's displeasure, LOL). Maybe the importance of reading SH3 Commander's Help file should be made clearer when installing it. I'll suggest it to Jaesen.

I did not do the roll back, SH3 Commander did when I launched Silent Hunter III through it. SH3 Commander does the roll back every time I start Silent Hunter III through SH3 Commander.

SH3 Commander *corrects* the erroneous US rank labels of the original game.
The stock game uses:
160=Seaman
161=Senior Seaman
162=Chief Seaman
163=Warrant Officer
164=Senior Warrant Officer
165=Chief Sr. W. Officer
166=Sub-Lieutenant
167=Lieutenant Jr.
168=Lieutenant Sr.
169=Lieutenant Sr.
170=Lieutenant Jr.;Lieutenant Sr.
171=Lieutenant Sr.;Lieutenant Commander
172=Lieutenant Commander;Commander
173=Commander;Captain Jr.
174=;Captain
SH3 Commander uses (which is as close to correct as the game will allow):
160=Apprentice Seaman
161=Seaman 2cl.
162=Seaman 1cl.
163=Petty Officer 1cl.
164=Chief Petty Officer
165=Warrant Officer
166=Midshipman
167=Ensign
168=Lieutenant (j.g.)
169=Lieutenant (j.g.)
170=Ensign; Lieutenant (j.g.)
171=Lieutenant (j.g.);Lieutenant
172=Lieutenant;Lieutenant Commander
173=Lieutenant Commander;Commander
174=;Captain
If you think you *really* are an Lt (j.g.) then you're wrong. You *really* are an Ensign.
However, if you're not happy then:
a) Set the "Rank translations" option in SH3 Commander to "German" (I *think* you are using German rank labels???). The German labels were corrected by the devs in patch 1.3 or 1.4b, using teh original fix that I provided for RUb and SH3 Commander;
b) edit SH3 Commander's "\Cfg\ Menu static.txt" file and change the 160-174 labels back to the stock SH3 game ones, if you want US rank labels;
c) don't use SH3 Commander.
Also, don't forget that there are other mods that adjust the rank labels too. I am aware of at least one (can't remember the name) that erroneously includes a rank to the detriment of a correct one. You must also consider this with the mods you have installed, especially if any of the above three options do not "fix" the problem to your liking.
One thing though, SH3 Commander will not remove player medals nor will it demote you (apart from the aforementioned US rank label realignment). Again, mods change this aspect, so you will need to review what you have installed.
Personally, as an aside, if you are going to continually install every mod you find here carte blanche, then I wouldn't recommend using SH3 Commander until you are happy that you have everything running comfortably. PLEASE remember, not all mods are compatible with each other. You should install and test, install and test, install and test, paying PARTICULAR attention to the associated readme so that you know what you are getting. Then if something goes wrong you're more likely to pinpoint the problem easier. Don't just install, install, install. You'll never pinpoint problems and in the end the only fix will be a total reinstall of teh game.

robj250!
I think you mean, when talking about roll back, the text "rolling back previus copied files" coming on the screen when Cmdr starts to load? :hmm:
If so, you don't need to worry about it. That doesn't mean any problems to you = you'll keep your career file untouched what becomes to rank and medals. When Beery is talking about roll back, he means "forced roll back" you can do by clicking the roll back button. It's essential to do before activating / deactivating any mods.
Maybe this can help you also.
