TO EVERYONE..
IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1) On your first patrol of a new career before leaving port... do not upgrade or change anything. (I think you can add a sub emblem... but do so at your own risk.)

2) On your following patrols do not upgrade your sub at the end of the patrol... wait until you are about to leave for the next one.
(In base at end of patrol=no upgrading
In base just prior to patrol start=ok go ahead and upgrade it.)

3) Also regarding ships in harbors all running straight towards the nearest ground, beaching, and burning etc.... THIS happens when you save your game within 50 km of a harbor... and is also a stock SH3 bug. (Another tip, you will take an FPS hit in harbor areas because there is a lot for your PC to track and render... USE LOW TC if you must use TC to leave the area.

4) If you do upgrade your sub at the wrong time or save a game before an enemy ship is actually sunk YOU WILL NOT GET CREDIT FOR DESTROYING THEM!!!

5) Numbers 1-4 above we cannot fix... but you can change your actions to adapt to them, thereby nullifying them. Stock SH3 Save-game routines are simply screwed up and cannot be fixed otherwise. This is NOT a new bug introduced by the GW mod.

The Grey Wolves Supermod is fully compatible with JSCones SH3 Commander program.

TO INSTALL The Grey Wolves Update version 1.1:
The GW mod files are in JGSME format however you can also paste it directly over a clean installation of Silent Hunter III. To do this just save the patch and decompress it into a personal document. Then go inside the patch files, copy the "data" folder and paste it over the data folder found just inside your Silent Hunter III directory.

Note: Do not install this update while on patrol.

You must roll back/disable ALL mods and GW optional mods with the exception of the GW version 1.0 Supermod prior to installing The Grey Wolves v1.1 Update.

Corrected Sub availability dates for 2nd and 7th Flotillas-JSCones

Re-worked player rank and medals requirements

Changed Player U-Boat weapon reload times: (Un-damaged weapon with full crew compartment efficiency)
88mm Deck Gun= 10 seconds per re-load
105mm Deck Gun=12 seconds per re-load
(Note the above changes were made to better reflect sustained fire rates of aimed direct-fire from a platform moving in three demensions at targets moving in three dimensions. Though higher rates of fire were certainly possible, such use would only be useful for area bombardment... not accurate fire.)
Also note... shell hits above waterline will hardly ever result in the sinking of targets larger than tug-boats.

Anti-Aircraft Weapon reload times: (Un-damaged weapon with full crew compartment efficiency)
All AA Weapon reload times= 5 seconds per barrel

Added further deck gun stability changes for more realistic gun movement and crew accuracy effects by Cdre Gibs

Increased Shell Power by approximately 33% for both the 105mm and 88mm deck guns

Reduced some terrain resolution and substituted terrain graphics from Kriller2's Terrain mod version 2.0- This should help with FPS in harbors and near land and in many cases actually looks BETTER than some of the high resolution versions I've seen.

Reinstated stock seafloor graphics for FPS improvement

Tanker IV Seafloor mod is now an optional mod... Note: if your system can handle it, this is an awesome little mod.

Corrected broken "Submarine blowing ballast" via the use of Ogg Vorbis speech file blending- Unknown modder

Added vonHelsching's Real Battery Life mod for GW- see the readme... wonderful mod!

Added -6 db Clock sound volume reduction- VodkaJello

Added slower DD propellor sound, Changes in DD speeds now discernable by hydrophone- Kpt. Lehmann

Added better underwater abient sound- NippelSpanner

Removed engine sound from bows of ships- Vapor Siaj by NippelSpanner

Reverted Creaks Level 2 sound to stock in effort to prevent looping sound.

Added Armed Trawler corrected damage model- Teddy Barr
Added "Blow Ballast" Ogg Vorbis speech files- DocAguirre (This was a bugged/broken sound in stock SH3. Now instead of silence you will hear the sound of your officer confirming your order to blow ballast followed by the sound of compressed air forcing out the ballast water.)

Argentinian alignment changes to axis side after May 12, 1945 to allow the player to escape in the last days of the war. This is done by modifying the Defside entries for Argentina in the Defside file. I find it very cool and historically correct. Some U-boat captains did sail into Buenos Aires after Germany capitulated. All credit for this idea goes to Stiebler.
Made some Scripted Campaign Layer adjustments for stability to both the regular and no-friendly-minefields optional mod.
In the Sea folder I have added the Walrus/Arado for the correct ships and using renown.
I also added the English/GermanNames.cfg in the sea folder with the corrected "Ftboot=Flottenbegleiter" entry.
I also added the correct Map entries for the new maps zoom levels.
I also added the Bismarck deck skin with swastika in the texture folder.

I've got one question - does it mean that I can't upgrade my boat (like install KDB instead of GHG, change torpedos, add crewmen or sub emblem) at port before first patrol?
I did it always before using GW mod without any problems.

Another question - what about Fubar's crew skins? It had to be added, but there is no info about it in readme of Update 1.1.

If you upgrade your boat prior to your first patrol, you risk losing any/all tonnage and renown due to the STOCK SH3 SAVE-GAME BUGS. I can do nothing to fix that.

That's a stock SH3 bug, If I remember right you loose all upgrades you've made.

One other thing.
The new smaller flags, do they really help with fps?
Throwing out the seafloor mod ok but those tiny flaggs now made even smaller really help with fps?

The flag size in the game remains equal, what's changed is the size of the textures.

I don't understand what HI RES mod you are speaking of.
Regarding JonZ Improved Recognition Manual Mod, all files are merged properly for user-friendliness. Whatever problems you had before should go away AS LONG AS you install the GW version 1.1 update via JGSME.

For those using JGSME... you MUST disable/roll back all un-related GW mods and all optional GW mods before enabling the GW 1.1 update.

Is it possible to install "JIRM for GW with Integrated Orders" over GW update v1.1 ?

I am asking it because I really like the integrated orders mod, and I want to enjoy it in Grey Wolves...
BTW, it would be great if you could include the Integrated Orders mod in the next GW update, at least as an optional mod. Please, consider it.

The Integrated Orders mod is one that I do intend to include as an optional mod at some point. I REALLY like the idea too. The problem is that there are several versions that have been "built for GW" without using IMPORTANT GW files... and thereby killing intended effects such as text contrast changes for the colorblind. If I can find one that has been built properly I will be happy to include it. It will not be default for players though because I don't want to make things any tougher to manage for new players as they come.

Please download and install the hotfix found on the first post into your JGSME mods folder.

If you are forced to eat some of every dish, ala carte becomes meaningless. If every mod gets pulled into default GW, then we simply end up with a different game that nobody is happy with and has to hack again. The more choices the better.
No offense, just my opinion.

U-bones is absolutely right. We cannot include everything. As you can see too, the more that is included, the more there is that can go wrong. With a mod collection this big there are bound to be problems... but we are going to fix them.

You also need to be aware that many of the problems that are being attributed to GW are stock game bugs that we cannot do anything aboiut. We've fixed a great deal of them, but we cannot fix things that are hard coded. (The save-game routines are totally screwed up for example. In the process of trying to educate gamers regarding them, people get the idea that it is the fault of the GW mod... WHICH IT IS NOT.)

The better question is can we use HT 1.48?

To the best of my knowledge Rubini has not released HT 1.48 yet.
GW Includes a very advanced version of "Harbor Traffic" and contains essentially what Rubini intended to be included in HT 1.48.
Rubini now has real-life obligations that will seriously limit his involvment with modding. Therefore HT 1.48 may be quite a ways away.

Also, to address another of your posts. You must have GW 1.0 properly installed BEFORE installing the GW 1.1 update. The GW 1.1 update IS NOT a stand-alone mod.

I give Grey Wolves v1.1 a thumbs down
The overly excessive units near german-controlled ports. I'm all for adding a few units to provide a "lived in port", but it is FRUSTRATING, FRUSTRATING trying to sail out of them, and dropping from time compression each time some new "fluff" unit shows up, and the shear numbers of units drags down the time compression.

YOU have done something SERIOUSLY wrong with your version 1.1 update...
Either you tried to apply it as a stand-alone, are using other mods, have a corrupted install... but more likely have just installed it wrong. Read the readme on "how to install."
You can use SH3 commander to change your time compression settings when nearing ships, airplanes, land proximity, etc etc. I consider the harbor traffic to be essential to the immersion factor that GW offers and will not be removing it.

I tend to disagree, simply because it is easier to install a seperate mod than it is to disable a part of a package, especially a complicated one... For various reasons, I prefer not to use IO, no offense.

If you take as a guide line the first to in red , after you can install whatever mods you whant on top off that...

If you whant to install any mod with Integrated Orders remember that after the first 2 red ones, you have to install first and before any other mod the GW Integrated orders mod, and after you can add what ever other mod you whant with integradted orders or not...

Before you play remember that in patrol saved games will not load up and the game will CDT, you've got to start playing it at Port.
I've check and the game loads normaly but when it's suposed to start CTD...

Basicly after you enable the GW Update patch you can install what ever mods you whant normaly and play...


Finally, this is another brilliant work from the GW Team, thanks again guys, there is simply no words that reflect what you have done for us... :rock: :rock: :rock:

Ok, i "found" the problem. To all guys: enable GW draggable chronometer mod 1.1 and the problem with convoy map is gone.

Kpt. Lehmann I think I found a bug.
In the single mission "U-505" u-boat type IXC/40, I was rammed by a destroyer and deep charged.
I had to order crush dive, but it was not enough to evade the destroyers, so in my desperation I ordered each time deeper and deeper..... look at the pics = the sub is indestructible :o :o :o
Hull integrity... 100%.

And she crush dived with a torpedo door opened. :roll:

I think it is supposed to be in the menu 1024_768.ini file.

However when I use the search function to find that line this is what I got..

open menu_1024_768.ini with your notepad
use search option and find the line [G31 I20]

find the value 1026 and change (bothe) to 1024 - thise should do the trick

I can test the game yet cause im curently integreate the Chomu IO mod with GW 1.1 - almost finish ;) and i am also working on Dowly repaet orders (english version) thise will take some time :88) 1-or-2 days

Because if you upgrade you run the risk of not getting credit for anything you sink during the first patrol. Don't ask how - it's an SH3 bug!

To find the aforementioned 1026 what you need to do is open the menu file. Press Ctrl + F to open the find feature. Type g21 i20 into the search box. Click find. Click find again. The value will be in the second search result.

I didnt understand previous Konvoy mod discussion but I tried to implement the solutions. unfortuneately it didnt help me with my Problem the 1.1 update causes a large black square at high zoom levels on both F5&F6. I am using only GM Mod and Update.

I have no idea how you guys got the land to dissapear in your maps, but I promise you that you didn't apply GW or the 1.1 update properly. I've just installed it 3 times different ways and am not getting the errors.

-Start with a clean install. I mean it. Roll back SH3 Commander, uninstall the game, delete the Silenthunteriii folder then reinstall from DVD.
-Patch to 1.4b.
-Install JSGME.
-Run JSGME once, then close it.
-Unzip GW 1.0 into silenthunteriii/mods/gw1.0
-Unzip GW 1.1 update into silenthunteriii/mods/gw1.1
(both GW1.0 and GW1.1 should have the 'data' directory and 'optional and documentation' directory inside nothing else.)

so you should have:

c:\program files\silenthunterIII\mods\GW1.0\data
.................................................. ....................\GW Documentation & Optional Mods
c:\program files\silenthunterIII\mods\GW1.1\data
.................................................. ....................\GW Documentation & Optional Mods

There are other files underneith those. But after the main GW1.0 and GW1.1 directories there should only be the \data and the \GW docs and optional folders.

-Open JSGME.
-Select GW1.0 and click the button with the single arrow pointing to the right. It will take awhile to apply, then it will give you back control.
-Select GW1.1 and clikc the button with the single arrow pointing to the right. It should complain about overwriting files, give it the ok. If it didn't compain about overwriting, something is wrong with the way you unzipped things into the mod directories.
-Hit the close button.
-Start SH3. (with the regular icon, or with SH3 Commander)


EDIT: Ok, I have finally seen the repeated overlay bug, but not the missing map. I'll eat my crow now. By the time I had seen it, Kpt released a patch. nice. :-)

I have encountered a problem uploading to Terrapin's site and have emailed him regarding the issue.
I have attempted to upload to FileFront to miror it for you there. but their file upload option is down.
If someone could mirror the 1.1 Update and the 1024/Map/Bearing Overlay fix temporarily somewhere other than FileFront for those who cannot access Rapidshare I would appreciate it much.

I've got one question - does it mean that I can't upgrade my boat (like install KDB instead of GHG, change torpedos, add crewmen or sub emblem) at port before first patrol?
I did it always before using GW mod without any problems.

Another question - what about Fubar's crew skins? It had to be added, but there is no info about it in readme of Update 1.1.

If you upgrade your boat prior to your first patrol, you risk losing any/all tonnage and renown due to the STOCK SH3 SAVE-GAME BUGS. I can do nothing to fix that.

Further proof for you and an answer to another question:
"On your first patrol of a new career before leaving port... do not upgrade or change anything"

That's a stock SH3 bug, If I remember right you loose all upgrades you've made.

One other thing.
The new smaller flags, do they really help with fps?
Throwing out the seafloor mod ok but those tiny flaggs now made even smaller really help with fps?

The flag size in the game remains equal, what's changed is the size of the textures.

I don't understand what HI RES mod you are speaking of.
Regarding JonZ Improved Recognition Manual Mod, all files are merged properly for user-friendliness. Whatever problems you had before should go away AS LONG AS you install the GW version 1.1 update via JGSME.

For those using JGSME... you MUST disable/roll back all un-related GW mods and all optional GW mods before enabling the GW 1.1 update.

Is it possible to install "JIRM for GW with Integrated Orders" over GW update v1.1 ?

I am asking it because I really like the integrated orders mod, and I want to enjoy it in Grey Wolves...
BTW, it would be great if you could include the Integrated Orders mod in the next GW update, at least as an optional mod. Please, consider it.

The Integrated Orders mod is one that I do intend to include as an optional mod at some point. I REALLY like the idea too. The problem is that there are several versions that have been "built for GW" without using IMPORTANT GW files... and thereby killing intended effects such as text contrast changes for the colorblind. If I can find one that has been built properly I will be happy to include it. It will not be default for players though because I don't want to make things any tougher to manage for new players as they come.

Please download and install the hotfix found on the first post into your JGSME mods folder.

If you are forced to eat some of every dish, ala carte becomes meaningless. If every mod gets pulled into default GW, then we simply end up with a different game that nobody is happy with and has to hack again. The more choices the better.
No offense, just my opinion.

U-bones is absolutely right. We cannot include everything. As you can see too, the more that is included, the more there is that can go wrong. With a mod collection this big there are bound to be problems... but we are going to fix them.

You also need to be aware that many of the problems that are being attributed to GW are stock game bugs that we cannot do anything aboiut. We've fixed a great deal of them, but we cannot fix things that are hard coded. (The save-game routines are totally screwed up for example. In the process of trying to educate gamers regarding them, people get the idea that it is the fault of the GW mod... WHICH IT IS NOT.)

The better question is can we use HT 1.48?

To the best of my knowledge Rubini has not released HT 1.48 yet.
GW Includes a very advanced version of "Harbor Traffic" and contains essentially what Rubini intended to be included in HT 1.48.
Rubini now has real-life obligations that will seriously limit his involvment with modding. Therefore HT 1.48 may be quite a ways away.

YOU have done something SERIOUSLY wrong with your version 1.1 update...
Either you tried to apply it as a stand-alone, are using other mods, have a corrupted install... but more likely have just installed it wrong. Read the readme on "how to install."
You can use SH3 commander to change your time compression settings when nearing ships, airplanes, land proximity, etc etc. I consider the harbor traffic to be essential to the immersion factor that GW offers and will not be removing it.

Yesterday, I have started my fist GW patrol. Looks Great :up: :)

But i have a problem: When i switch to periscope, the game crashes to desktop. When i am on the conning tower or at the guns and then switch to presicope, it seems to work.

Config: clean SH3 1.4 + GW (standard installation)+ GW Update
Windows XP Home SP2
Radeon 9800 Pro (latest catalyst), 2xAA + 2xAF

Can anyone help?

Look under the IE user( the first link) use the user ID and password to get into the file.

In the file called Grey Wolves theres a bunch of GW files, the update is called THE_GREY

I couldn't find it at first but when I looked at the size of the file it kind of gave it away.......same size as the 1.1 file on rapidshare........ I've installed it ok. :D

I was just looking through the changes made in ver 1.1 and I was a bit disapointed that you guys didn't include a lighter version of the 8km/16km LIGHT mods. I'm using 16km LIGHT and it's still pretty dark, way darker than the stock game. I've even tried increasing the settings on my monitor but it doesn't work that well, it also means I've got to fiddle around with it after I close the game because it changes the way everything else looks on my computer. Aren't there some value I can personally change to lighten up the situation?

(in case you dont like it you can delete it - so you actually dont lose anything)

I tried to use the SHIII Mission Editor yesterday, and found that if I try to load the GW SCR I get a crash. I have no problems loading the other campaign files, or other SCRs I have stored. Any ideas what's causing this?

Second question: does anyone have a clue how to add the harbor pictures for the Kiel Canal to the ingame map? They show up in the Editor maps, and by adding Naval Bases to the locations I was able to give them names, but still no harbor pictures. I've learned to avoid them when playing, but it sure would be nice to see them on the map.

This has been a great mod. Having realised that there was a 1.1 update I installed it as per the readme instructions. I installed the 1.1 update over my existing SHIII install/1.4 patch and the GW mod v1.0 I did the following:

1. I rolled back SH3 Commander.
2. I installed the GW 1.1 update via JSGME utility.

When I went into the game and started a new career when I went to the map view or the TDC view I was confronted by the following big black square over my sub icon when zoomed in to a level where each little box represents 250m. When I zomed out to 500m per box or larger it would not show up. There was also another big blue box which seemed to be over either a ship or sub in my port at the time. Only when I could not view my own port (out of range), could I then zoom in on Kiel as per normal and see the port in close detail without the blue box. How can I correct these graphical errors? I have attached a screenshot that I took when I encountered this problem. Also after discovering this graphical prob I installed the hotfix and this has not resolved the problem. Any suggestions or advise would be most appreciated otherwise I will have to rollback to GW 1.0 release?

Well, my big problem was fixed, namely not being able to load the SCR layer into the Mission Editor, and it was fixed even before I asked it. The 1.1 update came with a new SCR, and it loads fine. Now If we could just see those pesky Canal harbors...

I have a new complaint though, and I don't know if it's GW-related or not. I finally got all set to start a new career, and I looked around my type II and noticed it now has three reload torpedoes instead of two! I know there was a discussion on that a while ago, and I don't know what the final decision was, but I never saw it refered to in any readme for any mod, and I'm a little upset. The only source I've seen that actually mentions torpedo loads is Erminio Bagnasco's Submarines of World War Two, and it specifically mentions five torpedoes for the Type II.

I'm now in the laborious process of reloading my entire game/patch/mods in an effort to restore the previous, and to my mind correct, loadout.

It's May '43 and I haven't received a radio message for a while. The only radio messages I have received are concerning the milkcows, when a milkcow unit has arrived at a patrol zone and when one leaves. I'm using the UC for GW mod, which changes milkcows available and also ver 1.1 of GW so it looks like this:

GW ver 1.0
GW ver 1.1
UC for GW

When I first started using GW I got a ton of informative messages about other u-boats, milestones in the war and guidlines for u-boats to follow, like the ban on attacking passenger liners at the beginning of the war. Now I mostly get milkcow messages and the ocassional convoy message. I'm thinking that UC for GW overwrote the radio messages to provide radio messages for the new milkcow model but I'm not sure. Anyone else have this issue?

add this section, or the second line to the section if it already exists.

It's the last time you will have to unmod that feature (which is from GW).

IrishRed's Radiolog mod is only complete through December 1941 (I think). After that you only get the stock messages, and they are few. The 'Milk-Cow' messages are part of the mod, so you will also get those. We hope that someday IrishRr\ed will continue his wonderful work.

Guys, I have become quite ill and I apologize for not being around much... especially right after releasing the update. I know my timing is rotten.

Furthermore, my real-life job workload is increasing still more and no matter how sick I get I still have to show up.

There is much I'd like to talk about... but it will just have to wait a bit.

TO EVERYONE..
IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1) On your first patrol of a new career before leaving port... do not upgrade or change anything. (I think you can add a sub emblem... but do so at your own risk.)

2) On your following patrols do not upgrade your sub at the end of the patrol... wait until you are about to leave for the next one.
(In base at end of patrol=no upgrading
In base just prior to patrol start=ok go ahead and upgrade it.)

This is not fun.
I have tried to work around this but it is a guessing game and does not have predictible results.
Since this has never happened in any other install including GW 1.0 is this possibly because of the the GW-1.1 basic cfg????

If so what was done that created it.
I even just finsihed a second patrol and had the game say the war was over in March 1944 when I went to the third patrol???
Strange stuff. Would reverting to the GW1.0 basic cfg cure this oder nicht?
I don't see any other files in 1.1 that should have any such effect.

Just wondering to what this addresses.

Also, there is now a 1500m bearing overlay on my map, over my sub and I was wondering if this is an add-on made by the 1.1 update, is there any way of reverting back to the stock sub icon? The 1024 bearing/map fix, I installed this along with 1.1 before I booted up the game so I have no reference as to what it does or fixes, I heard someone say it fixes the map with the convoy routes from disappearing, does it fix/change anything else?

I found a way that works for this.
When you start a new career simply make all the changes you want, start the mission, exit the mission and go back to career start, open in base before next mission (Mission 2)and start that as you first mission. You do not get any renoun but avoid doing your first mission without improvements.
What ever you do, find which way suits you and stick with it as running a good patrol and not getting credit is no fun at all.

I didnt understand previous Konvoy mod discussion but I tried to implement the solutions. unfortuneately it didnt help me with my Problem the 1.1 update causes a large black square at high zoom levels on both F5&F6. I am using only GM Mod and Update.

This has been a great mod. Having realised that there was a 1.1 update I installed it as per the readme instructions. I installed the 1.1 update over my existing SHIII install/1.4 patch and the GW mod v1.0 I did the following:

1. I rolled back SH3 Commander.
2. I installed the GW 1.1 update via JSGME utility.

When I went into the game and started a new career when I went to the map view or the TDC view I was confronted by the following big black square over my sub icon when zoomed in to a level where each little box represents 250m. When I zomed out to 500m per box or larger it would not show up. There was also another big blue box which seemed to be over either a ship or sub in my port at the time. Only when I could not view my own port (out of range), could I then zoom in on Kiel as per normal and see the port in close detail without the blue box. How can I correct these graphical errors? I have attached a screenshot that I took when I encountered this problem. Also after discovering this graphical prob I installed the hotfix and this has not resolved the problem. Any suggestions or advise would be most appreciated otherwise I will have to rollback to GW 1.0 release?

Is there a known fix for this?

Disable the v1.1 overlay hotfix and the v1.1 update and delete all uboat ".shp" tga's that you find in these two updates.

Do NOT delete the .shp files in the GW 1.0 files.

Then re-enable the v1.1 update and overlay hotfix. This will hopefully solve your problem by reverting to the v1.0 bearing overlays for player subs.

What you are experiencing is probably related to your video card, driver, or other modifications you've added to your installation.

1. is this site have 1.1 or 1.0 GW mod?

Just to clear any remaining confusion... and to answer BigBiadVuk's questions definitively...

1. Yes, the link you have posted to Terrapin's website contains all official GW updates. (And thank you for respecting his bandwidth and not hot-linking directly to the related mods)

2. All you need to do is install the v1.1 update OVER/ON-TOP-OF the GW 1.0 mod and the 1024 Cfg/Bearing overlay hotfix on top of that. You do not have to DL the whole GW 1.0 supermod a second time.

3. There are multiple links/mirrors to Terrapin's site, Rapidshare, and FileFront located on the first post of this thread and on the first post of the GW sticky thread for the GW 1.0, GW version 1.1 update and the GW 1024 Cfg/Bearing Overlay Hotfix.
