Ladies and gentlemen...help, please. Ihave for the 5th time tried to install IUB 1.03...and failed. Steps follow:
1. Completely uninstall SHIII via Windows XP removal tool.
2. Go into Drive C "Programs" and delete remaining folders in SHIII
and then the empty Ubisoft folder itself.
4. Clean install SHIII from disk.
5. D/L patch 1.4 and successfully install.
6. D/L Jones Enabler, extract to SHIII root folder, and open, using
the icon in the SHIII folder. Close Enabler.
7. D/L !.03 to "My Documents". Extracl WINRAR folder to My
Documents (generating a second 1.03 folder there) and move
that folder to the MODS folder in SHIII Program.
8. Open Enabler, find 1.03 listed, move to "active mods". close
enabler.
9. Start SHIII, go thru copy protection....and get intro movie and
plain vanilla SHIII.

I have a DELL XPS with every bell and whistle money can buy. And, before my HD crashed and was (professionally) replaced...I in fact ran 1.03! I am obviously doing something wrong (duh!). Can anyone suggest what it might be?

Thanks. I was born in an era where BW TV was the only available option, gas was 0.20/gal (full serve) and where you picked up the phone, got an operator who asked you what number you wanted and then manually cross-pluged it into the switchboard she was sitting in front of. Inside computer lingo means very little to this out-of-touch brain. Please bear with me on this. Thanks again

The same exact thing happens to me when I try and install mods. Jones says mod activated but it's the same old game!

Maybe winrar is creating another folder when you extract?
Check if the folders structure inside shii is this:
<wherever_you_have_shiii>/Mods/IUB1.03/data/

The name IUB1.03 doesnt really matter, but if winrar makes other folder more (like Mods/iub1.03/iub/data) then it wont work.

That is default winrar behaviour so worth checking!

Frogdog,
As I recall, in the IUB v1.03 there is a subfolder labeled 'Improved Uboat 1.03' and that's what you have to extract into the SHIII MODS folder. In the Jones enabler it should read 'Improved Uboat 1.03', if not it won't work. What I had to do was I extracted the IUB v1.03 into the SHIII MODS folder, then went into the folder, opened IUB v1.03 which then took me to the 'Improved Uboat 1.03' subfolder, then I copied this folder onto the Mods folder. Once it completed copying, I then deleted the IUB v1.03 from the MODS folder. When I opened the Jones enabler, it was listed as "Improved Uboat 1.03" (without the quotation marks, of course). I hope that this will help.

TO: dbf 574 (and everyone else!). Once again proving the 100% true addage that "Chiefs run the Navy and the only smart officers are those that listen to, and do, what the Chiefs' "suggest"....dbf 572's "suggestion" solved the problem. Those having difficulty with IUB 1.03 installs need only follow his directions for a successful install. Thanks again, Chief. Frogdog (Team One 1966-1971)

I, personally, never operated off the Grayback...but I know teammates who did. Mixed reviews. Great delivery/recovery vehicle...superior chow (as is the perk of the Submarine Force)...professional sailors and officers....but stunk and cramped all to hell. And a world class vomitorium on the surface in even the mildest seas I understood the hairy exercise of locking out was a welcomed relief. Locking back in was another matter altoghter! Equally hairy...but you're going back IN!
I can appreciate the mentality of the DBFers (nostalgia for the combo of skill, and mission under intolerable physical/mental discomfort...kind of like UDTR/BUDS)... but I like sunshine and fresh air also. Submariners are an entirely different breed.
Thanks, Chief.
