View Full Version : Done Homework on GW+NYGM+EUC, now quick 3 questions
OK, I am wanting the merged GW + NYGM + Extended Unified Campaign.
This will be put on top of a fresh install of SH3 + patch 1.4b . I will use JScone's Generic Mod Enabler to accomplish the mod layering.
I've read many threads, just a couple questions.
I understand that to achieve this I will install in this order:
a) GW
b) NYGM Tonnage War mod
c) Extended Unified Campaign
I just want to make sure I get the latest and accurate version of each of the above. Are they hanging out in one place, perhaps terrapin's site, which I am unable to access today?
What are the latest versions for each of those three?
The only other weird thing is that the most recent post on Rubini's Extended UC thread was on 31 March. That doesn't 'feel right'.
Also, there was one small change that needed to be made to a file if, as I understand it, a guy wants all three of these? I can't locate that small change if anyone knows it...
Thanks!

You've got the installation order right. If you want the NYGM Terrain add-on, install it after NYGM Tonnage MOD. The MOD will then play like NYGM Tonnage MOD. If you use SH3 Commander v2.5, leave the Crew Option, and Crew Fatigue Option alone to use the NYGM Fatigue Model. Also, if you use SH3 Commander v2.5:
To make SH3Cmdr and NYGM Tonnage War compatible with each other, you'll need to open "Ship displacements.cfg", located in the \SH3 Commander\Cfg folder, and change the RenownAwardedEqualsRandomTonnage value to 1. This ensures that the "renown" you receive is exactly the same as the tonnage sunk. Conversely, set RenownAwardedEqualsRandomTonnage to 0 to revert to the "classic" renown system.
Hope this helps,
Montbrun
Thanks Montbrun that was tremendously helpful actually.

Thanks Montbrun that was tremendously helpful actually.
No problem. My JSGME MOD add-ons look like this:
GW v1.00
Tonnage War Mod v1.03
Tonnage War Mod v1.03 Terrain Add-In
Extended Unified Campaign
CA Officer Icons
Fubar Crew
IuB v1.03 NavMap Contact (Tails)
I didn't like not having map updates with NYGM, so I experimented until I found that the optional IuB NavMap Contacts (Tails) works, at least for me.

Again, Montbrun, tremendously helpful. I appreciate the time you spent in making things clear. I plan to copy your plan as follows:
GW v1.00
Tonnage War Mod v1.03
Extended Unified Campaign
IuB v1.03 NavMap Contact (Tails)
I noticed Rubini was very clear to specify a clean install of SH3 plus patch 1.4b. I think what he meant is to just make sure you don't have any corrupted (altered) files from the original install. (As opposed to a really true uninstall, then full game install again.) I have a backup of the original game installation folder so I'm going to have Windows replace the current version with the original (using Windows Explorer copy function).
Thanks again

I can't help you with these files, but I can tell you that there will be a release of the next version of the NYGM Tonnage War with updated content, and improvements to the current NYGM mods (such as improvements to the campaign beyond that currently available in the Unified Campaign), as well as the Terrain Add-In. In addition, we will be releasing an additional add-in which will include the atmospheric aspects of the Grey Wolves mod. This release and the add ins will be tested for ease of installation and full compatibility with the NYGM Tonnage War package. This update is currently in limited production and beta testing.

there will be a release of the next version of the NYGM Tonnage War with updated content, and improvements to the current NYGM mods (such as improvements to the campaign beyond that currently available in the Unified Campaign), as well as the Terrain Add-In ... [also] additional add-in which will include the atmospheric aspects of the Grey Wolves mod ... update is currently in limited production and beta testing.
Observer, thanks for posting. I had just finished wiping back to a clean SH3 + patch 1.4b (as well as getting latest version of JSGME) when I read Observer's message. So while (at this moment) I am bit confused about how this impending release works with the formerly Rubini-announced GW+NYGM+EUC, I'm certainly content to sit out and do the Bethesda thing for a few days until this product is released.
I have zero experience with any of the above three mods, so I'm still in major learning mode here. I'll appreciate that release for sure.

If you're only planning on waiting a few days, then I'd suggest you go ahead and give the above combination a try. The release of v1.04 is still some time off. I haven't tested the above combination, so I wouldn't be able to comment on the results, however with the JSGME mod enabler, it's pretty easy to enable and disable any mod you don't like, or feel uncomfortable about.
OK, will do! Thanks again, Observer.

I can't wait. One request, when adding in the optional GW 'atmospheric aspects' (most of which I enjoy greatly), could you retain the RuB/NYGM hydrophone rpm noises? The GW version of these makes it extremely difficult if not impossible to count RPM's for speed estimates.

If you can tell me which sound files it is, I will fix it since I'm working on this part now. I'm pretty sure I know, but just to be sure.

I'm afraid I'm not very good at the 'under the hood' stuff. :)
I imagine though (extrapolating from an earlier post of Rubini's) that the propeller sound files picked up by hydrophone are 'hyd.wav' files..... hope this helps a bit.

I listened to them today; some are quite good, so I have left them. Some are simply awful, and have been removed. The ones that are awful sound like general broadband noise, very heavy on the hull flow noise. Even in very noisy environments (lots of biologics and other background noise) the screw always has a distinct sound (at least in my experience) that can be heard above the flow noise over the hull.

Part of the problem is that the GW rpm sounds are faster than the stock rpm sounds... at least 10 rpms per minute on average faster, according to one estimate. For those of us using GreyRider's RPM speed chart, this makes things much more complicated.
