View Full Version : GW crashes

Ok. Any ideas what's going on? I made a clear installation of the game, patched it and run GW in. I looked no files was left before a new installation. Problems are:
1. Missing officers icons in barracks (not all but few of them)
2. Game crashes just after I got "fairwell message" on the screen while loading a patrol.
I have done the hole thing twice = Unistall, clearing the files left, reinstall, patch 1.4b and GW in.
One more thing: After the uninstalling the game, protection code (on the disc) should be asked when doing new installing, right? Well, it's not happening now. So now I'm wondering is it possible there is some "stuff" left from the other, earlier installations in my computer? If so, they could be the reason that GW is not working to me?

What is this? New face again? Just a moment ago I got that "Wild night in Bangog" (or something like that) look. (I think that face belongs to someone "classified" member of board...)
HUH. Not my day.

post your system specs....always do this....especially with crash problems!

512DDR RAM, GF6600, AMD Athlon 2,08 GHz
(I know, 512 is small, but thought to give a try and get it doubled in the next week)

If you do not delete or re-name the SH3 folder in "My Documents" you will get CTD's.
Also, some mods added over the top of GW can cause data conflicts and CTD's.
When starting out with GW it is best to run it by itself for a day or so to make sure everything is running well.

Good to "see" you Lehmann!
I did try it alone because the reasons you just explained. But this rename-thing I haven't noticed at all. It must be explained in the info files or how to install -instructions... Well, I'll take a look.
Thanks!
Edited 5 minutes later:
Now I got what you mean, but that's not a solution for my problems because I don't have the game doupple installed. There is just one version of it. Something else must be the reason for crash.
And after five more minutes:
Right. I uninstalled it again - totally. I drove regedit and can't find anything.

I too was getting cds just after the "not so long ago" message appears. I chased the problem down to something in the crew folder of the mod. I removed to folder and put it someplace safe to chase further later. Then reinstalled the mod. I am now on my fourth patrol, and aside from missing sounds (namely the blow tanks sound, and possible missing search ping sounds) the game is as stable as ever.
I also run on 512k, with no serious issues. The only notable is before starting another mission I have to reboot the system, and when the graphics load increases frame rates drop rapidly.

Thanks pythos. What I know, blowing sound is missing anyway. About pings I don't know but I doubt they wouldn't be there. But I'm just quessing.

The pings are there.
LOL, I got pinged LOTS in testing....
Followed soon after by BOOM BOOM BOOM... which also definitely works.
From what source did you download GW?

UBoat Realsimulations.

UBoat Realsimulations.
Hmmm. :hmm:
That is the best place to DL GW from... and is where I DL'd the copy I am using now.
Unless your DL was interrupted, I do not suspect bad downloads from UBoat Realsimulations. Terrapin stayed online with me for the entire upload process to compare file-sizes and such.

Ahhhh... just saw your system specs.
You really REALLY need another 512 stick of RAM. :(

The ping I am reffering is the search ping, not the rapid ping you get when they have got you. Before GW you would hear the search ping, then the tone would change, and you sonar operator would say, "we are being pinged sir", the pings become more rapid as the destroyer closes, then stops moments before all hell breaks loose.
Now, I hear nothing until the sound man gives the warning, followed by the rapid ping, then the sound of the canisters poping.
The blow tanks sound, as I have said several times, did work with patch 1.4b, as well as RUB1.45 (or is it 4.15, I forget).
The sound file for blow tanks is there, but it is not working in GW. It is a minor thing, but really dissapointing to blow the tanks and here silence as the boat begins to slowly rise, or rapidly rise.

With respect you are mistaken sir.... the blow ballast sound is broken in stock SH3... but CORRECTED via the use of speech files in RUb.
This sound will be fixed in the upcoming GW update via use of the same method.
The blow ballast sound has been recognized to be non-functional in stock SH3 since April of 2005.

In the stock game yes, the sound is broken. But in the 1.4b patch, it works. If this were not so, then how did berry get the sound to work, concidering the file controlling the sound is a .sdl file, a type I can find no edditor for.
Also, I could not be sure, but the tone of your response put across a tone of irritance. If this is so, please don't get irritated, I am simply contributing what I can to help improve this great game.

I was simply trying to explain to you how it was that Beery had the blow ballast sound corrected in RUb.
The only thing that irritates me is rivet-counting.
Regarding tones it seems the same could be said of yours....
The blow tanks sound, as I have said several times... :|\
