Awesome!

The guys on the thread are saying it causes the game to CTD while viewing the King george though...

IMPRESSIVE! :up:
Unfortunately the Iowa class wasn't used in WW2 Altantic Theatre. Nevertheless the work is great!

I will try it out when I get home this afternoon. :up:

Maybe it is crashing the game because the modeler inserted the new .obj files into the KGV .dat, and forgot to clone it. Load the ship with pack3d and click 'clone' - maybe that will work. :hmm:

yes i tried to have both ships but game crashes then (

Maybe cause they are clones but in the ship entrances they forgot to change the names or something like that...

I figured out the problem - as I posted before, they did indeed use the KGV .dat and then forgot to clone it.

To fix it, just open the .dat with Pack3d and click clone (you don't need to make another copy as this will only change the values and not the actual model). The Iowa will then work perfectly with the KGV. :up:

And what a great model it is too... :o

Yes! :up:

I have tremendous respect for warship modders, since unlike with generic cargo ships every little detail has to be precisely scaled & shaped. Hopefully they'll post a cloned version so we don't need this workaround.

Maybe you can ask them permition and fix it, bro cause not everyone here works and knows how to work with the Pack 3D... :up:

I for example never messed up with that stuff.... :up:

Sorry this is no correct.
The Iowa (BB-61) was laid down at New York Navy Yard, 27 June 1940; launched 27 August 1942; and commissioned 22 February 1943, Capt. John L. McCrea in command.
On 24 February, Iowa put to sea for shakedown In Chesapeake Bay and along the Atlantic coast. She got underway, 27 August for Argentia. Newfoundland to neutralize the threat of German battleship Tirpitz which was reportedly operating In Norwegian waters.
In the fall, Iowa carried President Franklin D. Roosevelt to Casablanca, French Morocco, on the first leg of his journey to the Teheran Conference in November. After the conference she returned the President to the United States. As flagship of Battleship Division 7, Iowa departed the United States 2 January 1944 for the Pacific Theatre and her combat debut in the campaign for the Marshalls. From 29 January to 3 February, she supported carrier air strikes made by Rear Admiral Frederick C. Sherman's task group against Kwajalein and Eniwetok Atolls in the Marshall Islands

So.....since the Iowa was employed in the Atlantic theatre from febraury 1943 to January 1944 with cruises along the artic sea till Norway and in North Africa (Casablanca ) we could draw it in the Atlantic Campaign too! :yep:

It's actually pretty easy to fix. You should try it out - if you follow these steps you won't cause any damage to the mod or to your SH3 installation.

1. Download pack3d,

2. Open the program

3. Locate the .dat file in the Iowa's folder and open it.

4. Click "clone", and wait until the button graphic is no loger 'pressed in.' This will take about a minute.

5. That's it. No modelling experience required, and no changes will be done to the model. The only change will be that the .dat's values will be different from the parent KGV. :yep:

Uhh...hate to be dumb but what is the latest version of pack 3D and where do I get it? I'm still running a version that makes flags upside-down... :oops:

Actually, that is probably the newest version. :lol: This is a fix for the flag problem:

Click on cfg#FLG_[Shipname]. Switch the XY and XZ values from what they are (they should be 0.0 and 3.xxx...).

Here is a screenshot, with the relevant values which need to switched inside a red rectangle.

IMPORTANT - THIS DAT FILE ALEADY HAS THE VALUES SWITCHED. Also, the 3.xxx value is a little different than yours. Don't edit the value itself - Just switch the two to match these. (so that the 0.0 value is under the XY section).

A.t.m I am in contact with the guy from the german forum and he just did the fix but he realized that then a bug appears at the KGV. One turret is at his head. He will fix the KGV too and release both together.

Unfortunately he has no experience with the damage model!! :hmm:
I think it would be really a waste not to have this.
The Scharnhorst also had no damage model.. but I think this isn´t that important like the Iowa class which would be a great threat.

Maybe someone could do a damage model or send him/me a description of how to do it.

Pack3d, 53k, named: 2Pack3D.jar and work with this, for import .Obj in .dat file.

The last version, is good for clone and move, but have some mistake...
If you have exported obj with a program of design 3d, you must, make a backup, all obj original and in particular .mtl file, before to save, And use this .mtl file original for import.
Enjoy.

While the USS Iowa was reported to be working up and in place to engage the Tirpitz, that was more a PR stunt bit of propaganda than anything real.
Not that it would not have engaged and gladly, just we knew there was no such break out but it made for good PR
It is, however, official history. It was doing that work up for just a few weeks
But, training or not and taking the pres on a cruise it was in the Atlantic and nearly torpedoed.
The torpedo missed and was actually a misfire form a USS William D Porter which was making a practice torpedo attack on the battleship while the president watched (AA practice was also occurring.)
Investigations found that salt had bridged an open switch which released the fish.
The Porter signaled "Torpedo coming your way" to which the Iowa turned toward the Porter and went to full speed. The fish exploded itself about 1000 yards away and felt like a DC going off.
We have all seen some of our fish prematuring and I am sure the first time I fire a fish at the Iowa that will happen. Why nit? That is exactly what happened the only time I ever loosed one at a KGV in all my days in SH3

That is a nice piece of work to say the least!

What a fantastic model.

Has it been built from scratch or does it use cloned parts?

AG124

Looks to me to be built from scratch, although it uses the .dat and the damage model of the King George V class.

I've got something to ask bro:

I've added your ships (all of them) to the GW mod, and it's ok they apear on the recon manual vut with the resolution isue , and another detaill cause i'm using the new recon manual from Jonz
, he included on the recon nationalitys the Red Cross nationality, the qiestion is, your Hospital ships shoud also apear on the Red Cross Nat. and for that i think i have to add a Red C. Folder on the roster yes??? :rock: :up:

AG124
04-14-06, 07:28 AM
Yes, You'll have to add a folder to the roster, but you'll actually have to name it "RedCross" instead of "Red Cross". This must have been the name that Sergbuto chose for the flag when he made the nationality mod. Also, of course, you will have to add RedCross to the DefSide cfg file as a neutral (0) nation (I guess you know how to do that).

I'm making an up-date folder for the Grey Wolves Roster For some nations, and it's based on the Roster Sea folder of the GW Mod,
and ther it comes açç raedy named like that "RedCross"... :up:

As for this last one where do i change that DefSide cfg bro? :rock: :up:

Edited:

Thanks just started looking and found the Defside cfg file you've been talking bro...

gona release in some minutes the Add-On with all your ships to GW mod and will mention your creations and name bro... :up:

AG124
04-14-06, 08:17 AM
The file is in the roster folder - it is defside.cfg. This is the entry you would make, but the side entry number will be different, depending on the number of nations you have in the game (I have the file on this computer, but it doesn't have the nationality mod entries although I have them on another computer):

[SideEntry 55]
Country=RedCross
Side=0
StartDate=19380101
EndDate=19451231

EDIT: I missed the part of your post where you said you found it. Oh well, here it is anyway. :D
