View Full Version : Higher Wind Speeds?

Has anyone yet dabbled with the wind speeds. There should be a higher maximum than 15 m/s. That's only a 7 or "near gale" on the Beaufort scale. It would be nice if we could increase the maximum to 25 m/s: true storm conditions.

I haven't seen anyone increase the wind speeds, though I don't know for certain that it's hardcoded. Of course, if you're willing to ignore what the weather reports say, the 1.25x or 1.5x wave increase in SH3 Commander does a good job of at least giving the appearance and effects of bad weather.

Yes, it's been tried. In the readme for his original 'Big Waves' mod, Timetraveller described increasing the winds all the way up to 45 m/s, only to have it revert to 15 m/s when he reloaded the game. Never being able to get around it, he finally created the mod which doubles the wave height for any given speed. I just use 'Big Waves' (actually now I use the adjuster in SHIII Commander) and pretend the wind is twice as fast.
On the other hand, if you can succeed where he failed, great!

Based on what you said about TT's efforts, it sounds like SH3 Commander could be used to fix the max wind speeds by changing the data every time the game is loaded thourgh SH3Cmdr. I'll have to bring this up with Jaesen. Neat idea.
