Mine laying was a part of the uboat war and I have an idea how it might be simulated in the game. I just don't know how you modders would do it.
To simulate a mission to mine an area, a coastal zone is the mission target and the sub is prepared with an appropriate number of torpedoes missing. The type II were used in this role early in the war.
Getting into and out of the appointed zone and returning to base or resupply at sea is the goal.
In real life, the sub would not have any immediate result, meaning they don't hang around to see if any ship runs into a mine. The mining mission was one of the most dangerous of the war.
It should not be left out of the game.

You can simulate this mission...it will say your patrol grid is BE36 and there you go...just pretend you are on a mining BE36....that was an easy fix...anyone else? next!

Thanks, I knew that much.
I meant that such missions could be included in a campaign file like NYGM or Grey Wolves so that a player would get them at random times instead of a normal mission.

What's wrong with doing the same mission? I live for monotony! Nothing could be more exciting than to patrol grid areas....I mean look at all the different ones you get to choose from....some of them even have land! woohoo!

I built a single mission very much like this once where if you entered your objective area, a minefield would spawn behind you and if you stuck around for an hour or so a troop transport would plow right into the minefield but alas, the spawn bug! It was a very boring mission anyway so I deleted it. What would make this idea work is a seperate program that would recognize when you completed entering a mining zone and assigned you a random amount of tonnage/renown weeks and even months after your mission... :hmm:
